UFC Welterweight Anthony “Rumble” Johnson was arrested in Hayward, California and charged with three misdemeanors for an alleged June 27th altercation with his ex-girlfriend. The charges included, one count of domestic battery, one count of criminal threats and one count of damage to a power line (He apparently broke his ex-girlfriend’s cell phone, to prevent her from alerting the police).

Cagetoday.com was first alerted of the incident by a unanimous email circulated by “MMANewshound”

Anthony Johnson’s agent Ken Pavia released a statement:

“It has come to our attention that an email is being circulated with false and misleading information pertaining to Mr. Anthony Johnson. On behalf of Mr. Johnson we would like to address this issue. On June 27th M Johohnson was arrested in Hayward California and was charged with misdemeanors stemming from an alleged altercation with an ex-girlfriend.

Mr. Johnson is completely and unequivocally innocent of all charges. These charges are completely outside the realm of Mr. Johnson’s character; he has no prior criminal record and has never been in trouble with the law. Furthermore, any assertion that the UFC played a part in posting his bail or in covering up the incident is completely untrue. Unfortunately, professional athletes are frequently made the victim of such false accusation.

As this has been a stressful time for Mr. Johnson, we ask that judgment is withheld until all relevant facts have come to light.”[MMAWeekly]blockquotote>

Based on the agents statement I wonder if anyone actually checked the public record to see what actually happened. Lets face it,it would be unfortunate if he did assault someone, however he is human and people make mistakes. Hopefully everyone can wait for all the facts to shake out before convicting him in the court of public opinion. Last time a checked this is America and someone is innocent until PROVEN guilty, at least thats how it used to be before our culture developed the "24 hour" news cycle. Good luck Mr. Johnson.
