Attonito Replaces Krauss to Fight against Nelson at UFC on Fuel TV 5
You may remember Rich Attonito from “The Ultimate Fighter” season 11; he now replaces injured Pascal Krauss, a German boxer at the UFC on Fuel TV 5. He will face Gunnar Nelson which is also an impressive welterweight with 9 wins, 0 losses and only one draw in his career.
Pascal Krauss suffered a fatal injury when he received a strong knee strike to his rib cage causing severe chest pain and dislocated vertebrae. It happened last Saturday morning when he was sparring and preparing for his fight; he was rushed to the Freiburg University Hospital and was diagnosed to have extremely bruised ribs and inflamed chest. Krauss was also diagnosed to have dislocated his backbone which instantly caused him to retire due to medical injuries and of course unable to fight for his fight in Nottingham, England scheduled on September 29.
Krauss was interviewed by Sherdog and he replied: “I can’t laugh, can’t cough, can’t talk loudly or sleep without walking up at least 10 times at night.” He added: “I tried getting over the pain using medication, but it was just too strong. I am devastate as it’s already the second time I has to cancel a fight due to injury. I apologize to Gunnar and his camp; I would have loved nothing more than being able to compete with him. I was looking forward to this fight so much.”
To replace the injured Krauss is former NCAA Division I wrestler, Rich “The Raging Bull” Attonito. He is a native of Deerfield Beach, Florida, USA and has 10 wins and 5 losses in his career. His most recent fight was a loss to Jake Hecht at the UFC 140 – Jones versus Machida in December 2011, he lost via technical knockout. His latest win was against Daniel Roberts at UFC Live 4 – Kongo versus Barry in June 2011 via unanimous decision.
Gunnar Nelson is a native of Reykjavik, Iceland and as mentioned earlier has a perfect fighting career with only one draw. His latest win was against Alexander Butenko at the CC 12, a headliner fight where he won using an armbar in just 4 minutes and 21 seconds of round 1. Nelson has been successful against superb fighters; among them are Eugene Fadiora, Danny Mitchell, Sam Elsdon, Barry Mairs, Nick Tromp and many more. UFC on Fuel TV 5 will be on September 29 at the Capital FM Arena, Nottingham, England.
