It couldn’t get any better for Karl Amoussou after he won in the welterweight division against Bryan Baker in Bellator 71 last July 20. During his full time training for the fight against Baker, Amoussou declared that he would be fighting with his belt and going in for the welterweight tournament as a winner. All these were done immensely without any doubt by Amoussou.
Amoussou vs. Baker Fight Details
During the final seconds of the tourney, Amoussou gave his best shots against Baker. Amoussou was quick enough to finish it off within 56 seconds via inverted heel hook. The match was finished instantly with this attack. However, Baker answered with an illegal eye-poke resulting to a timeout. Amoussou instantly dropped and locked in hold while Baker tapped. What’s really important now for Amoussou is his next welterweight division fight against champion Ben Askren. Amoussou really did well in this fight that is currently at 16-4-2 in his career. Before he came in with this fight, Amoussou faced Chris Lozano and David Rickels in which he won via decision and submission.
Amoussou’s Journey to Victory
Amoussou’s major debut started last year upon signing with Bellator Fighting Championships. Nonetheless, he lost on his first fight against Sam Alvey at Bellator 45 via decision. To make up for this loss, Amoussou had a knockout win against Jesus Martinez in November 2011 at Bellator 59. At Bellator 63, Amoussou was expected to fight against Jon Koppenhaver but was postponed due to the latter’s imprisonment due to an assault. His victory over Rickels and Lozano gained him his chance at winning over Baker. With this victory over baker, he earned $100,000 and a title. The future opponent would then be Askren and is said to be set on the 7th season of Bellator. This match would happen in the fall of 2012. Baker is now at this 18-4 career.
