Legendary mixed martial arts referee “Big” John McCarthy has been assigned by the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) a referee position at the upcoming Strikeforce “Destruction” card on Nov 21 from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, CA.

McCarthy best known for saying the phrase “Let’s get it on”, left refereeing last year to pursue a MMA analyst job with TheFightNetwork. He recently left the position amongst internal turmoil at the Canadian based company.

“I had a good time doing [commentary] and it was fun … The Fight Network overextended itself and wasn’t ready to do certain things that they said that they were going to be able to do. It just didn’t work out there.”

Following his retirement from refereeing, McCarthy made it clear to the media that he will return someday to referee another fight. In less then a year he has found himself back on the roster of the CSAC list of referees for Strikeforce “Destruction”.

“I missed doing it … Sometimes when you walk away from something and you think it’s time, once you’re away you realize what you’re missing —- it’s kind of like why guys come back to fighting. It’s what I like doing. It’s what I was meant to do.”

Big John is a legend and the UFC should bring him back at whatever price. Not only does he deserve it but us the fans deserve it as well.
