Bob Arum On MMA “Skinhead white guys…Rolling around like homosexuals”

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yE_tsPatoBU

Boxing Promoter Bob Arum talks with MMA Fanhouse’s Ariel Helwani the Miguel Cotto vs. Manny Pacquiao press conference at Yankee Stadium. Arum and UFC President Dana White has exchanged words over the age old question Boxing vs MMA.

“skinhead white guys watching people in the ring who are (sic) also look like skinhead white guys …. guys rolling around like homosexuals on the ground.”

“For me MMA is garbage and Junk”

Arum also denies UFC 100 had over 1 million PPV buys.

With guys like Arum leading boxing, no wonder the sport has lost so much ground to MMA.

I just grew alot of respect for helwani, didn't really care for the guy, but he backed up mma….and saying only skinheads watch it….to a jew…..wow. Helwani was seriously pissed and it looked like he wanted to punch his face in. He should of shut this fat fuck up.

It doesn't even bother me cause I know that this guy knows he's full of shit. He knows MMA is the future and boxing isn't creating new stars to carry out the sport. MMA was destand to beat boxing cause MMA is everything and not just punching. If the boxing guys want to come box in MMA let them try.

1 dimesional dinosaur sport with no way to climb back up to it's former self. Sorry it just bores the shit out of me, if I can't watch Mike Tyson rip peoples heads off anymore, than I'm not interested. Pacman is beast, but he is one of few popular stars left. Jiu Jitsu>dancing with pillows on your hands.

i like what he says about mayweather.

But what he said about mma is completely ignorant. What an old racist turd.

"MMA guys have no chin" Right! lol Lets see the boxers take punches from MMA gloves and not those big pillows. It shows you how uneducated some people are when they act like boxing is the end all be all. Boxing has always been main stream in America but it's never been the best fighting style. MMA has gotten the best people from all areas together and now some boxers are trying it. They're also nowhere near the top like they were in boxing when it comes to MMA cause they realize they'll need more than just a punchers chance to survive.

Judging by the time this fossil thinks he lives in it's a shock that he doesn't mistake Mayweather as being his owner. lol He makes people his age look really dumb. You'd think that being around the Roman gladiator era he'd like to see a sport that does much more than punch.

I can't remember what it was called but there actually was a sport similar to MMA in the first few Olympics. This guy probably said the same shit back then. He didn't really seem to know what he was talking about, and the way he stuttered through some sentances and not others proves that he knew that he had no idea what he was talking about. I wonder what his sources are for saying that UFC 100 did not get that many pay per view hits. The thing I hate about boxing is that you only use one attack, and thats it. Punching. MMA utilizes just about the WHOLE body. Boxing is a little easier to be great at (not saying it is easy though) because you only have to do boxing training, whereas MMA must train in boxing and everything else. That is why I think MMA fighters are more talented. Yeah, boxers can throw fast, but MMA is used to taking harder punches from smaller gloves and having a much harder time blocking punches with small gloves.

That also means that if he had siblings and ever got in a fight with them or a fight with anyone and it got to the ground (which happens more than a fight staying on the feet) he is a homosexual as well.

Ok he is right about Mayweather when it comes to buying ppvs for me. Its the same as Anderson and Machida. MMA fighters dont have less of a chin its just that they dont have the defense that boxers have. They avoid getting hit flush much easier than an mma fighter will or does. Obviously b/c boxers are always training to avoid getting hit and their punches are much more crisp harder more percise and faster. Boxers have way better hands than mma fighters but they cant defend leg kicks and suck on the ground. I can see how this guy is flaming the ufc b/c he was raised watching boxing and thats it. He is also an ignorant fuck with some things he says. MMA can suck as to watch if you get 2 wrestlers are 2 guys that suck standing or when 1 guy has no stand up so he takes it down. Fortunately for us fans the TOP level of fighters can do everything. So we dont have to see too many shitty fights for titles. But there are still boring mma fights just like there is boring boxing matches. I love watching both boxing and mma. So this guy has no clue what he is talking about in that regard. And I am white not mexican or puerto rican or black. I would prefer to see a stand up fight than a ground fight but thats just b/c I like to see knockouts like most mma fans. Am I gonna say that a guy is a fag b/c he takes someone down and submits them? Hell no, but if the guy takes a guy down b/c he cant throw a solid punch then thats when I dont want to watch a fight and I have no respect for guy. A guy that cant stand up and throw is not a fighter in my opinion. A fighter is a warrior that will go in and try and smash another guy. The UFC is getting too many guys that cant fight in all categories. Thats why there are way too many boring fights nowadays. Come on Dana White UFC needs mma fighters not pure wrestlers and pure bjj guys. Also Dana says people want to see Mayweather vs Paqiuao but yet he cant get Fedor vs Lesnar and he never got Wanderlei vs Liddell back when Wand was a wrecking machine. Never got Fedor vs Randy and so on. So the matchup and mega fights are a bitch situation in boxing and mma. It all revloves around money. Bob Arum probally does believe what he is saying but he is also saying this stuff as a business man in boxing. He is a promoter and just like dana with mma he will say anything to shit on the competition. For the record I like doing submission and working ground game but if I am paying to see a fight I expect to see a fight and blood. Thats all im saying.

Bob Arum is not very open to MMA but I think boxing is all he knows. He is not open to other contact sports that involve fighting. And I am sure he dosn't understand all the technical aspects of the sport. I come from a boxing family and they have now gained interest in MMA, the more I explained to them the stratagies like how and why a fighter is trying to gain position on the ground, or defence in a clinch or takedown, etc.

I grew up on boxing too but the sport fell off. There are no real big draws anymore other than the guys he mentions. They had too many titles that didn't mean a thing.

I don't think boxers have better defense, it's much easier to defend against punches when that's all you have to look out for plus defending against blocking gloves is easier than MMA gloves cause they get through alot easier. Those boxer's wouldn't look nearly as good "boxing" in an MMA match cause that dancing around, inside boxing and bobbing and weaving wouldn't hold up the same in MMA when anything and everything can and will happen.

    September 12, 2009 at 5:36 am

    Oswald is right.

boxers have better defense because they only have to watchout for punches, gloves are bigger and heavier (slower punches)

  19. steve

    September 12, 2009 at 5:50 am

When I said boxer have better defense b/c they are always practicing to avoid getting hit did you think I meant avoiding kicks elbows and knees? lol. Its simple mma guys dont have the hands or defense that a boxer does. Sure the gloves are bigger but you guts are saying that they throw slower punches? lol not even close. When comp[aring hand speed of an mma fighter to a boxer the boxer with the gloves still punches faster. When it comes to hands boxer own. Now if you kick and takedown and clinch then the mma fighter owns the boxer. This shit is obvious.

Steve….. sure there punches might be a TAD faster but they have no power in them at ALL tell me the last HW boxer you saw with hand speed anywhere NEAR like HW ufc fighters hand speed…. (slow jabs and they all dance around)

  21. Oswald Gobblecock

    September 12, 2009 at 8:46 am

Obviously not Steve. Who would assume that boxers would need to block kicks, knees, etc… lol. I'm saying I don't think boxers have better defense period. Not saying they have worse either though. I also don't think the boxers have better hands for fighting… boxing yeah but boxing isn't fighting. There's alot of tactics they train for in boxing that wouldn't work alot in fighting or MMA so I think it's "different" but not "better". Granted some MMA guys hands suck but it's because their base is something on the ground. Boxers don't punch harder than the strikers of MMA which has been proven in sport science. I wasn't one of the guys who said their hand speed was slow but again that hand speed is made for boxing to out score and win over judges where MMA guys like to put people away more often than alot of boxers these days it seems.

    "boxers have better chins"

    errr Amir Khan?

  23. steve

    September 12, 2009 at 6:42 pm

look at king kong not being able to read. Never said either have better chins. It comes down to being able to avoid getting hit flush. Chuck Liddell knocked out half the guys he fought without even being able to protect his face. He never would have been anything in boxing but he outstruck everyone in mma. Just my opinion. Vera talks about in an interview how boxers punch different and are the superior fighters when it comes to punches. I will try and find the interview and post it. If u have trained with boxers and mma fighters u know the difference between the skill lvl with their hands thats all im sayin on the topic. pure fists = boxer > mma fighter. And of course mma is closer to real fight but the ufc has too many rules aswell. Not quite a fight anymore as it is a sport.

    September 12, 2009 at 6:53 pm

Steve, King Kong wasn't quoting you he was quoting the old fuck. lol Yes MMA has alot of rules for safety but it is still the closest thing to a real fight for a sport that is out there. As far as better hands I still say yes boxers have better hands for a boxing match where their tactics work but not for MMA. Agree to disagree I guess. MMA is still so young and I've already been more impressed by what I've seen in this sport than anything I've seen in the long history of boxing but of course there are far more out-comes in MMA.

The only fights I would watch on boxing are Pacquiao, Mayweather, Tyson, Marquez and a few other Mexican boxers. Meaning, I would watch about only 10 boxers in the world fight. In MMA however, i would watch about 100 fighters. There you go.

I'm not surprise at these comments , primarily because its pretty well know that mma growth over the years has made a significant blow to boxings promoters, aswell as television studios, and its no surprise that there are more mma gyms opening in the country as of late. but that being said , these guys have no dencency as people to degrade a sport that has done nothing but respected boxing for what it is . and im talkin About Larry Merchant- Mayweather- and Bob Arum.

  29. King kong.

    September 13, 2009 at 4:46 pm

    I'm sorry Andre but what?

Bob Arum now gains the right to call MMA fighters gay because he did something for a now dying sport?

we're putting out our point from a none homophobic way, and not discriminating the fans and boxers, meaning we have far more RIGHT to degrade the sport.

arum's so old i dont even think he knows where he is now. i definetly dont expect him to be able to comprehend something new and as complex as mma. he's like my grandpa old and stuck in his ways but does it really affect u who cares. my grandpa will still mumble at the dinner table racist things and about fighting in world war 2 and arum will talk about mma something eh knows nothing about. who cares it doesnt affect me in any way. keep mumbling old man while the times pass you by. you cant teach an old dog new tricks and who really wants to.

In any fight that involves just throwing punches the boxer wins. Whether it is in a cage or a ring whether its boxing or a street fight. Boxers have superior hands by far.
