Brock Lesnar Sick, UFC 106 Fight With Shane Carwin Off (UPDATE)

After coming to grips with the UFC 104 judging debacle and starting to look forward to the next UFC PPV headlined by Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin, we get this.

Yahoo Sports,

White said Lesnar has been ill for more than three-and-a-half weeks and unable to train. With the bout at UFC 106 less than a month away, Lesnar was forced to postpone the title defense.

“He said he’s never been this sick in his life,” White said. “He said it’s been going on for a long time and he just hasn’t been able to shake it.”

White said he does not believe Lesnar had the H1N1 virus, commonly known as swine flu.

Shane Carwin reacts via his Twitter account of the news that his chance at a UFC title shot might be off.

ShaneCarwin: It’s dissappinting hearing about your career and life through the media. Nothing from the boss’s yet.

With just under a month till the scheduled event, Dana White will have to work some of that UFC magic and find a suitable replacement for the main event.

Its better to be safe than sorry, there is no way he could be ready after not being able to train for 3 wks with 3 wks left till fight day and he is still sick..this sucks but i want to see both fighters at their strongest when they fight.

God, this just shows how much of a pussy Lesnar is. Just kidding, Tim. Its a good call, he should definately take the time off because even if he started training like a madman now, he wouldn't be at a good caliber. I really want to see this fight. I think there are a lot of good looking fights in Lesnar's near future.

I'd say to have a lightheavywieght title rematch. Machida v Rua 2.

Lol, funny.. i agree Fino although its too soon since both men wont clear the medical board by then and wont be at 100%, i look for that fight to happen on Jan 2 along with the Lesnar Carwin fight as they have to stack that card since the next few will be sleepers.

He was obviously well enough to do this but it doesnt mean that before this he wasnt out sick for 3 plus weeks and unable to train. This was Sunday and on Monday they made the decison that with 3 weeks left till fight time that is not enough time to train for this fight not to mention recovery time as well, so Dana agreed and pushed it back till Jan 2 UFC 108 which gives them roughly 9weeks of training or a typical training camp which is from 6-12 weeks in length.

I just dont understand all the negative shit i have been readin here and other sites, if this was Carwin i guarentee you that not many would be thinking negative on him and saying he is covering up or isnt really sick.

That game wasn't this Sunday, it was last weekend. I guess he forgot that when he's in the spotlight it would be hard to make his sick excuse fly. If he was already better at the game and sick for three weeks before then, then he should've made it known last Monday so that the replacement fight would have adequate time to train. Now someone else is not going to have very much time to train, but don't worry Lesnar will. He wants to hold onto that belt for a couple more months before he risks losing it. That's understandlable, Rashad did the same thing. At least Lesnar will have no excuses in January! Let's go Carwin.

True Roy but not from all the yahoo article comments and other reports, everyone hates him but i guess that could be the idiots who dont know what MMA really is and training behind it and just think its a fight so suck it up.

christy your right it was 2 wks ago but still it doesnt matter we dont know the story and we dont know his training regime…the only thing we know is that its intense and that his manager said there just wasnt enough time to train with 3wks and recover from being sick. Are you an athlete? i take it that your not since you would completely understand how hard it is to train when your sick and how hard it is to come back after an illness with 3 wks till a fight…its not a wise decision and in all fairness its not fair to both fighters as they should fight each other at their strongest.

He could have also been sick, gotten better and went to the game, then came down with something else immediately after. Swine flu will kill your immune system and make you much more susceptible to other diseases. I think I find it hard to believe that he would fake being sick and everyone would buy it.

I agree wid Christy Brock is just killing time. Hell; he should be in good shape he has not fought but one frickin fight this year. This is bullshit! I told my wife that he would probally put this fight off till 2010. Looks like I was right. WEll at least FEDOR fights more than three times a year! Im glad some heavyweights aint scared to fight more than one fight a year! Well we know if Brock beats carwin in jan 2010 it will be jan 2011 before he defends his belt agin. must be nice

The reason people are being so negative is because Lesnar always wants to talk shit and be the center of attention. He's used to being an actor, so it's just natural for him. Carwin seems very respectful, so no, I don't think that people wouldn't be so negative about him because they would be returning the respect he gives his fans. I don't think I remember him giving all of us the finger.

I've been an athlete all my life and I do understand the training that goes into it, though I've definitely not done anything nearly this intense. I understand all that and have a respect for all the fighters. I was so surprised at UFC 103 in Dallas, my first live UFC event, at all the people that constantly booed all the fighters! They were the ones in the octagon sacrificing their bodies. That being said, it really seems like Lesnar is more concerned with being the guest at a football game, than training for his upcoming fight. Now we know why! You would think he would be at home getting well instead of out there risking catching something else or making his current illness even worse. I'm all for being public and promoting the UFC and mma, that's awesome, but if that aspect comes before actually fighting, he definitely deserves all the negativity.

Ryan S you are right! Swine flu is will kill your immune system. I'm sure it's not recommended for anyone that has recently had it to being going to huge public events like a professional football game. Especially not someone who has promised their fans and everyone else to defend their UFC title a few weeks later! Hmmm?

shut the hell up christy brock hasnt ducked anyone if he's sick he's sick. you all dont know whats goin on in his life and neither do i. the only one whos been talking shit is carwin 24/7 on twitter and to every loser he can get to listen to him. we havent even heard hardly anything from brock so if anyones being disrespectful its LITTLE CARWIN. people act like carwin and lesnar are the same size lol its laughable and you all will see that at the weigh ins. look up carwin and lashley on youtube and it shows a video of them backstage talking and lashley who weights a whopping 250 pounds makes carwin look tiny. brocks gunna smash lashley like the one hit wonder nobody that he is.

Brocks only good for one fight a year ha ha

  24. Tim

    October 28, 2009 at 12:35 am

Actually he is not he fought 3 times in 2008 and would of fought 3 times this year if Mir didnt back out of their fight so shut up things happen its not always going to be a 3-4 fight year. Bottom line you dont know whats going on all you hear is media BS, bottom line coming from an athlete who trains MMA fighters in wrestling and trains MMA in general when you get sick especially an upper respitory infection you cant hardly breath and it makes working out very hard and you end up making yourself sicker, you see when you work out you break down your immune system and that is why its so important to cover up after your training, why do you think the fighters immediatly put their shirts back on???? Its not only because of promotions and sponsors but because of the sickness aspect your more succeptible to infection and disease when you work out and thats the gamble you take and sometimes it pays off and other times it doesnt thats the nature of the sport, by the way Carwin said himself he had swine flu and he understand how hard it is to deal with, we dont even know if Lesnar had that or not as it was to late to test for it, all we know is that on 3wks til fight time that is not enough time to train and while he could make his wayout 2wks ago on a sunday morning to a local football game to promote himself and also promote the team he used to play for a bit with thats his business not anyone else's i can tell you this there is no fighter out there besides a few that train as intense as Lesnar does. Dont you want to see them fight at their strongest and not when one fighter is at theire weakest point…ala NOG vs Mir.
