The Zuffa LLC controlled World Extreme Cagefighting event went of without a hitch at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on Saturday. In the end two champions were crowed. Carlos Condit captured the WEC welterweight championship belt, after defeating John Alessio by rear naked choke in the second round. Condit is looking like he could be a serious contender in the near future. Chase Beebe defeated Eddie Wineland by unanimous decision to take home the WEC bantamweight belt. Dominic Cruz retained his WEC Featherweight belt after a quick defeat of Urijah Faber in the first round.
Joe Riggs was to make his WEC debut on Saturday, but was forced to withdraw on fight night after suffering a back injury.
According to Scott Lewis of Pavia, Ciscone, & Associates â“‚¬“ Riggsâ“‚¬“„¢ management company â“‚¬“ Riggs has had a bulging disc in his lower back for quite some time, but thus far has been able to fight through it. He was hitting the mitts last night to stay loose, when his back started to act up and he felt numbness in his leg. Upon advice of an orthopedic specialist, Riggs withdrew from the fight.
