Cecil Peoples “If you don’t like it, you can go to hell.”

Cecil Peoples,

“My thing is, Rua did hit him more … But Machida hit him harder, especially in the early rounds.”

“So you in a bar with 200 people that are sloppy drunk, and you’re gonna argue with me about the decision? … How does that work? Only in America. I give the fight to Machida in a very, very close fight. Now you’re pissed off because it’s my fault that you lost your money. No, it’s not. It’s Machida’s fault.”

“If you don’t like it, you can go to hell.” [MMAWeekly]

MMA judge Cecil Peoples responds to fan criticism of his judging of the UFC 104 bout between Lyoto Machida vs Mauricio Shogun Rua. While its not just Peoples fault for the failed decision, his name has certainly come up a lot in questionable fight decisions.

Was Cecil really judging that fight in the pic?

I love how he pisses on the Majority of fans out there like myself.

I was rooting for machida more than shogun.

I wasn't in a bar or drinking, I was at home chilling with my wife.

I was in boxing and a few Martial arts so I'd like to think I know how a fight is supposed to be judged.

I had the sound off because Joe Rogan annoys the hell out of me so he didn't sway me either.

I hate to say it but Shogun clearly won that fight.

Should I still go to hell?

Dana white was right. The commissions need to hire/train better judges and refs and throw garbage like this guy out.

Cecil you suck as a ref and you suck twenty times more as a judge. Your "Go to hell" comment just makes you suck even more than we already think you do.

Look at Machida's face and body compared to Shogun's. Let's not kid ourselves about who did more damage!

This is a guy who has said Matt Hughes he is "prison strong" and that he "knuckled BJ Penn up" in a round where BJ beat the shit out of hughes. Nothing this dumbass says makes since. Basically he thinks its normal for a whole crowd to cheer for Machida at teh beginning of fight and at end cheer for Shogun? Tehn for him to get flamed over the internet not just by fans but by fighters. Uh okay then….

Peoples has never been able to call fights right. Look back at his history calling boxing matches. Alway VERY interesting calls. Why he is calling MMA is a great mystery??? To the power that be PLEASE don't let MMA turn into boxing. I was a huge fan for 35yrs and gave up on it because of all the bad calls.

Here are some Brazillians oppinions on the lyoto vs shogun fight

Vitor Belfort: “I don’t like that idea that to beat the champion you have to be way superior. To beat the champion, you only have to win. It doesn’t matter how, just a victory, even when the level of the fighters is very high today. I think Shogun hit more and deserved to win.”

Josuel Distak (Anderson Silva’s trainer): “In my opinion, I think it was a draw. I think Lyoto won the first and second round and started to lose after half of the third round. Shogun won the fourth and fifth round, so I think the draw would be fair. But the big winners were the fans because I’m sure the rematch will be an unforgettable battle.”

Antonio Silva: “I was cheering for Lyoto Machida, even when I want to see a rematch between him and my training partner Thiago Silva. But I couldn’t understand what the judges were looking at to give the win to Lyoto. I’m sure Shogun won that fight.”

Luiz Alves (Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira’s muay Thai trainer): “I think the judges were not there. Shogun was much more aggressive, mainly in the first three rounds, so I think he should have won.”

Wanderlei Silva: “I couldn’t believe they gave the win to Lyoto. Besides being more aggressive, Shogun was more effective. UFC should review their judgment system. There isn’t anything worse to a fighter than training hard and losing a fight like that. The championship belt should be with Shogun now.”

Sergio Cunha (Brett Rogers’ trainer): “In my opinion, Shogun lost the first and second and won the third, fourth and fifth round. He looked for the win all the time and scored more points, so he clearly deserved to win.”

Anderson Silva: “I already said that Shogun did a great fight and I applaud him for the amazing fight he did, but in my opinion the leg kicks were not enough to decide the fight. Lyoto was more efficient, and in my opinion he won every round.”

Everyone with a brain knows shogun won. even nogs trainer knows shogun won. Andersons trainer even said it should have atleast been a draw. LMAO at anderson saying lyoto won all 5 rounds ya ok denial much?

I really like what vitor said about it. to beat the champion you should only have to win the fight. where in the rulebook does it say the champion should have some unfair advantage? a win is a win and shogun was robbed. all these pros know it including Florian and Rashad aswell. this pic proves that cecil peoples doesnt pay good attention to the fights he should have his ass canned.

    pretty obvious who won

90 percent of the mma nation thinks shogun won. the only people that think machida won are anderson (lyotos butt buddy), Josh tompson ( a champion in a second rate promotion who refuses to defend his belt because he gets injured 24/7), and about 3 dumbasses on this website lol.

Hahaha. I always talk trash because it seems like Peoples is always a judge in contravercial decisions. I was talking about how Peoples must have been judging the Machida fight. Guess I was right. That dude needs to retire from judging because he's terrible.

BigJon love that post with fighter opinions. And the vitor thing is exactly what I have always argued with. The champ shouldnt need any advantages going into the fight. If they are the champ then they should be the best. Fuck if anything the challenger should get the advantage before the champ. A fight is a fight and once your in the cage the belt dont mean shit. Or atleast it shouldnt :(

there's quite a lot of people who thought Machida won, actually…just google "machida won" and you'll see many articles saying that after watching the fight again, more and more are changing their minds.

Objective evidence supports Machida should have kept the belt:

    – Fight was not finished

    – No knockdowns

    – No dominant top control

    – No close sub attempts in any round.

    – No significant take downs in any round.

It comes down to whether you judge Machida's knees and head strikes as better or shoguns legs and body kicks as better in the first three rounds. That's up to the judges and they made their decision. Many people disagree with so we are going to have a rematch.

(one thing is for certain, many will be whining about this for months until that rematch happens).

good point random name and i thought machida would dominate. maybe i need peoples' back of my ass vision but i thought rua won. i don't even like rua…if you hate cocky jocks in the U.S. thats what the Rua brothers are in Brazil. Still Rua should have won that fight. he deserved it.

I agree that I felt Rua won, and still feel he won a very close decision. But I really believe that unless you out-right beat the champ, then the champ deserve the benefit of the doubt in close matches. This was a very close match, and I give it to Machida based on thinking similar to Random's eloquent reasoning above (hey, everyone has a good thought some time).
