Chad Mendes versus Clay Guida for UFC on Fox 7

UFC on Fox 7 is set to happen on April 20, 2013 and as Chad “Money” Mendes received news that Manny Gamburyan is unavailable to fight due to injury, UFC reveals that he will instead face Clay “The Carpenter” Guida. The event will take place at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California, USA. The Mendes versus Guida match will be a co headliner to champ Benson Henderson as he fights Strikeforce champion Gilbert Melendez.

Mendes is fresh from his win over Yaotzin Meza at UFC on FX 6 in December 2012. He KO Meza with a terrible punch that kept the fighter stunned in less than two minutes of round one. Prior to Meza, he also KO’d Cody McKenzie at UFC 148 Silva versus Sonnen 2 in July 2012 in just 31 seconds of round one. “Money” enjoys a fantastic professional record of 13 wins and only 1 loss. The 27 year old is a featherweight from Hanford, California.

Clay “The Carpenter” Guida on the other hand is a 31 year old fighter from Round Lake, Illinois. He holds a 30 win and 13 loss professional record. His last fight was a split decision win over Hatsu Hioki at UFC on Fox 6 – Johnson versus Dodson in January 2013. Before his win however, he suffered two back to back losses. The first one was against Benson Henderson at UFC on Fox 1- Velasquez versus Dos Santos in November 2011 and the most recent one was with Gray Maynard via split decision headline fight in June 2012. Guida is one of a few fighters that have made it big at MMA. He has been a professional fighter for a decade now and has been able to defeat amazing fighters like Nate Diaz, Anthony Pettis, Takanori Gomi, Rafael dos Anjos and many more at UFC. He has also fought great athletes in Strikeforce, WEC, XFO and at XKK at the beginning of his professional career.

UFC on Fox 7: Henderson versus Melendez will also feature fighters like Daniel Cormier versus Frank Mir, Matt Brown versus Dan Hardy, Nate Diaz versus Josh Thomson, Yoel Romero versus Clifford Starks, Myles Jury versus Ramsey Nijem, Norman Parke versus Jon Tuck, Jorge Masvidal versus Tim Means, Roger Bowling versus Anthony Njokuani and Francis Carmont versus Lorenz Larkin. More updates for UFC on Fox 7 will soon be announced by UFC officials.
