Dana White: Dan Henderson “Looking For An Obscene Amount Of Money”

By
Updated: October 20, 2009

Dana White explains that Dan Henderson asking for to much money is the reason contract negotiations broke down between the two parties. Rumors are that Hendo is close to signing with Strikeforce, but I doubt they could even afforded to match his current UFC contract.

It sucks to lose Dan but Dan also thinks he's worth more than he really is. I don't know why people want to see him fight Silva again… even if he gets lucky and squeaks out a win he wouldn't rule like Silva has and he wouldn't be nearly as exciting. Silva destroyed him on the feet and even the ground. Fans would rather see Belfort, a man he hasn't destroyed yet, fight Anderson. Even after that Silva has 2 fights left on his contract and I don't want one wasted on a guy he already beat. Dan had 2 title shots in a row and lost them both. He can try to rule after Silva's done if he IS done after this contract. After Belfort he should fight another top 205er and then the super fight with Machida.

totally agree, but remember out the of the two rounds that the fight was dan won the first between him and silva, and silva did what mattered in the second…. i don't think dan vs anderson will be just like the first but dan could get a win.

Damn I really like Henderson. I don't see how they couldn't work it out. How much was Dan asking? He's popular, got a ton of fans from TUF and his Bisping KO, how the hell did the UFC let me get away. I think he did well against Silva and he would be a hell of a lot better match up than Vitor Belfort.

But how did he win that 1st round Derrell? Laying on top of him and holding him in place… of course Silva held him so he couldn't advance further. Basically he scored points but he did no damage with those petty punches so I don't give him much credit there. I know I may sound bias but if he would have actually done more in that round I'd give him probs for it.

I'm sure Dana did what he could Kash, he likes Hendo but I can tell from interviews that Dan thinks he's a bigger deal than he really is.

dans a big deal but he doesnt have the market attraction to make as much as lesnar or silva. cool laid back personalities make people like you but they dont go that extra mile to sell record numbers. i hope dan comes to his senses and signs for less than he hopes. if he wants money then he needs to win the belt then renegotiate.

I dont get dana. He says boxing is dead and UFC is now mainstream. PAY YOUR FIGHTERS GOOD MAN! when you become mainstream you should be able to pay 7 figure salaries. Dan is a top of the food chain fighter he deserves it.

I totally agree, Jay… Hendo one of my fav fighters. I hope they can get something done, before it's too late. If he go's to Strikeforce. I believe he'd mop the floor with Shields and take his belt. But I would rather see him stay in the UFC.

I have never seen any interviews where Dan has thought he's bigger than he is actually was. He's a real humble guy and i've heard him say in an interview that he was asking a lot less money than a lot of the current UFC fighters…And he actually Hendo is a big deal. He's the #2 Middleweight in the world, IMO. So how could you not give money to a guy that's ranked that high. The UFC says they want all the best fighters out there, well theyre about ready to lose one, if they don't get him signed.

i agree zack, hendo is a legend and is at the top of the mw and lhw devisions. this would be a great pick up for strikeforce and a big loss for the ufc.

    errrr

    Hendo wants too much?

god some idiots post on this site.

UFC makes a clear cut billion a year and in most cases they only pay fighters what they make in the crowd.

PPV is where the money is at.

He IS worth it and the UFC COULD afford to pay it. I'm sure he's asking for a lesser amount of money than a Anderson, GSP or Rampage makes a fight.

Is he worth it because you say he is zack? Are u really sure he is asking for less and he should be asking for less because he not on the same level as Anderson, GSP or Rampage.

    October 21, 2009 at 4:56 am

No, duhhh….He's worth it because, he's the #2 MW in the world and probably top ten in the world at LHW.

Yeah, i'm pretty sure he's asking for less. There's a vid of this site a few days ago, inwhich he said he felt he wasnt asking for an unreasonable amount and said he was asking for less money then a lot of the other UFC elite.

Hendo has an army of loyal fans that go back to his PRIDE days. He also generated a lot more interest in himself after knocking out Mike Bisping, I'd have thought Dana would be quick to re-sign Hendo and money would be no object, but what do i know.

I dont believe there is any other place he could go and fight top level guys, if he goes to strikeforce the only ceredible opponent is Mousasi, He wont fight Soko because they are training partners, 185 in strikeforce is pretty thin ( i believe 'Mayhem' is also a Team Quest member) so there are not many options for big money fights.

he could fight at mw and lhw for strikeforce it would really help them, they have paid frank 350,000 to 500,000 for his fights so they could pay dan pretty good, i have a feeling the ufc will resign him though, and he is worth the money.

Hendo has nothing left he will not be #2 for long after he loses his next fight.

  22. zack

    October 21, 2009 at 5:09 am

And how can you say he has nothing left??? He's coming off 3 wins against elite fighters in their division. The last being a brutal KO of Bisping, who was supposed to be way faster than Hendo and would beat him and then go on to fight Anderson.

Yeah its ok for chukee boy to fight again after he had 2 back to back knock (OUT COLD) out losses. But every other fighter gets fired after 2 losses?

    October 21, 2009 at 12:05 pm

They havn’t even said his next oppponent. He’s not signed, remember. And I really doubt he does lose his next fight. Who will beat him???
