Dana White Unhappy About Swedish Federation Decision
UFC President Dana White has expressed his opinion on the Swedish Mixed Martial Arts Federation decision on Wednesday. This was all about pulling out Alexander Gustafsson from this Saturday’s UFC on Fuel TV 9 headline fight against Gegard Mousasi.
This unfortunate turn of event was due to Gustafsson’s injury that he has sustained last Thursday. He suffered a left eyebrow cut which was just above the eyelid that needed three stitches; this was a result of an accident during a wrestling practice. The fighter verified this injury on his website and also expressed his intention to fight Mousasi even with this injury. However the SMMAF Medical Committee ruled that this kind of injury will never heal in time for the light heavyweight to receive medical clearance for the fight. The fight is scheduled to happen this Saturday at the Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm.
Gustafsson posted a photo of his injury. Dana White on the other hand also posted his own photo of the UFC fighter after his injuries received stitches. White commented: “This pic was taken of Gustafsson today, and you can’t even see the cut!!!” He added: “Worst decision I have ever seen to pull a fight.”
So who will replace the Swede in this home court fight? Mousasi will instead fight Ilir Latifi who is from Malmo, Sweden. Latifi will make his UFC debut after a wonderful three back to back to back wins.
To those who have never seen or heard of Latifi’s skills here are his stats. “The Sledgehammer” is 29 years old with 7 wins, 2 losses and 1 no contest. His last win was against Jorge Oliveira in SC 8 – Malmo in October 2012 via unanimous decision. He has been a successful fighter at United Glory, Rumble of the Kings, SC and at SHC.
Mousasi on the other hand is 27 years old from Leiden, South Holland, Netherlands. “The Dreamcatcher” has 33 wins, 3 losses and 2 draws. His last fight was a submission win over Mike Kyle at Strikeforce – Marquardt versus Saffiedine in January 2013 and before this was a spectacular win over Ovince St. Preux at Strikeforce – Melendez versus Masvidal via unanimous decision.
Gustafsson issued an apology to Mousasi and to his fans for the ruling. He has mentioned that his team has done everything that they can do to train and to set up however the decision was not in their hands anymore. He also thanks every one for their support.
