Demian Maia Replaces Belfort Against Anderson Silva

The Ultimate Fighting Championships has enlisted Demian Maia to replace the injured Vitor Belfort against UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva at UFC 112.

“It’s always tough when a top fighter like Vitor Belfort has to pull out of a big title fight, but we have found a high quality replacement … Top contender Chael Sonnen was not available due to injuries sustained in his fight with Nate Marquardt, so top six middleweight Demian Maia will step in to fight for the title.”

“Maia is an Abu Dhabi grappling champion, a five-time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world champion, and he is 12-1 in MMA and coming off a win over Dan Miller at UFC 109. Anderson Silva vs. Demian Maia will be a matchup between MMA’s best striker and MMA’s best grappler.” [Yahoo]

Maia must still get doctor’s clearance from the Nevada State Athletic Commision for a eyelid cut he sustained in against Dan Miller at UFC 109.

UFC 112 takes place on April 10th in Abu Dhabi.

Great Another Silva V Thailes Leites V2 match. Maia if not knocked to the ground will fall to the ground. BOOOOO!!!!

only competivie match wll be Hughes V Gracie.

I like Frank Edgar he's a solid fighter but BJ Penn is just way better in every area.

Aww well Terry Etim is fighting hopefully thats shown on the night.

No chin Maia is going to get Koed by Silva. This is so lame, because Nate the Great beat Maia impressively. It shold be Marquardt vs Silva 2. Or even metter Gegard Mousasi vs Silva.

Great so no one is giving Maia a chance? This could be the biggest upset in UFC history. Maia can submit silva if he cab get this to the ground dont count him out. Nobody in the world thought that Serra culd knock out GSP right?

wake the fuck up Jay Anderson will never give Maia the chance to submit him just like leites he will lay on his back and hope Silva will come to the ground with him and silva will just stand above him and kick his feet

this will go the distance long boring 5 rounds UD Silva

what a waste of his last few fights in the ufc he should already be fighting mega fights at 205 against Shogun or Mousasi when he comes over eat my dirty ass hole fags
