DWI Sentence for Jon Jones Now Set for July 31
According to a report for the Ithaca Journal, the DWI sentence for UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has been once again moved to July 31. The champ appeared in Binghamton City Court on Tuesday and had a request granted for an extension to complete a required alcohol abuse and dependency evaluation. He is due to come back in court in July 31.
Jon Jones was arrested in Binghamton, NY in May 19. He was under the suspicion of driving while intoxicated, he ran his Bentley into a utility pole. Last Tuesday, Jones told court that he is attending classes near his home for his misdemeanor in Ithaca, NY.
The champ pleaded guilty to the charges on May 29 and he negotiated a deal with the county district attorney’s office in Broome with an agreement that he undergo an evaluation. His license was also suspended as well as a two-point infraction for an in improper turn was dismissed by the DA as a part of the initial agreement of the charge. His sentence was originally dated June 19 but was rescheduled for July 31 which is was the second time that it was rescheduled.
This set back however, did not make Jon Jones take a vacation from his training. He is the UFC light heavyweight champion after all ever since he captured the title from Mauricio Rua last March 2011. He has defended his title not once or twice but many times, beating amazing fighters like Quinton Jackson, Lyoto Machida and Rashad Evans. He will meet Dan Henderson, former Pride Fighting Championship and Strikeforce titlist, at UFC 151 on September 1 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Jon Jones has a 16 wins, 1 loss and 0 draw scorecard while Dan Henderson has 29 wins, 8 losses and 0 draws.
