Strikeforce: Fedor Emelianenko vs Brett Rogers Nov. 7 On CBS

The CBS Television Network will return to the mixed martial arts (MMA) cage with STRIKEFORCE: FEDOR VS. ROGERS, to be broadcast Saturday, Nov. 7 (9:00 PM, live ET/delayed PT). SHOWTIME Sports® will produce the four-fight event with host Gus Johnson calling the action and MMA legend Frank Shamrock and Mauro Ranallo serving as color analysts.

In 2008, CBS aired the first live MMA fights on network television, with three successful events earning time period-winning ratings in all key young adult and young men demographics. CBS’s most recent broadcast in October 2008 ranked as the night’s highest-rated program on both broadcast and cable in adults 18-34 and men 18-34, topping all other sports programming in those demographics, including the Major League Baseball playoffs and college football.

On Nov. 7, the world’s Number One-ranked MMA heavyweight fighter, Fedor Emelianenko of Russia, will face undefeated American Brett Rogers of Minnesota in the marquee match up. The fight marks the first bout for the highly coveted Emelianenko since his promotional company M-1 Global signed an agreement with STRIKEFORCE to co-promote major events.

“There’s no question this is a sport that is fast becoming a force in popularity and as a business,” said Kelly Kahl, Senior Executive Vice President, Prime Time, CBS Television. “We’re excited to be the platform that will enable millions more to see the athlete regarded as the very best in his sport. The Number One heavyweight on the most-watched network has a very nice ring to it.”

Simply referred to as “Fedor” by fans around the world, the 6-foot, 235-pound Russian is one of the most dominant fighters in the sport. He is a master of the Russian military combat system Sambo and boasts a record of 30 wins, one loss, no draws with 16 wins by submission, seven knockouts and seven decisions. The 28-year-old Rogers (10-0) is a massive physical specimen standing 6-feet, 5-inches tall and weighing 265 pounds. He possesses two of the heaviest hands in the sport of MMA, an attribute that has helped him knock out all 10 of his professional opponents.

“It is an honor to have the opportunity to bring the STRIKEFORCE brand to CBS,” said Scott Coker, Founder and CEO of STRIKEFORCE. “We are looking forward to bringing MMA back to the network and to having the world’s No. 1 heavyweight-Fedor-compete for the first time on live network television against one of America’s most promising young, undefeated stars-Brett Rogers.”

STRIKEFORCE has experienced significant growth since it launched its first MMA promotion on March 10, 2006. After signing a landmark deal to air live events on SHOWTIME® earlier this year, STRIKEFORCE earned the premium network its highest MMA rating ever on August 15 with Carano vs. Cyborg. Shortly before the live telecast, the main event principals-Gina Carano and Cris “Cyborg” Santos-were the most searched terms on Yahoo! and Google, while the fight was the most discussed subject on Twitter.

Its amazing looking at fedor and knowing what he can and has done with his size and shape. I love how 69 so called mma fans that visited this site think that brett rogers is a nobody. What are those people doing on an mma site.

link to fedor talking about Fedor vs Lesnar fight and if he thinks it will happen.

Steve: I guess I'm a "so called mma fan"

really, what has he done? Arolvski… wow BFD.

Sylvia beat him the same way… hit the magic button on his

    jaw. He's not fedor caliber.

The question here is not IF Fedor will win, but how long will it take him to win.

btw/ mmabay is crap and shouldn't even be mentioned here.

they're like the national enquirer of mma sites

Its even banned in some mma forums for being not source worthy.

im gunna need to see more than a quick KO of glass chin arlovski before i think rogers is top caliber but he's the best strikeforce could offer. whens allistair gunna heal up and lay off the roids for a few months so he can actually fight fedor lol?

hmm dane, Alistair is always injured!

hmm well Andrei has yet to be knocked out by anyone that quick (especially since Andrei is training with Freddie Roach)

exactly he got ko'd so quick… i would have been way more impressed if rogers won a decision. Any heavy hitter catches arlovski right and down he goes. fedor Ko'd him with one punch and slow ass sylvia Ko'd him aswell. im not saying arlovski isnt a world class fighter because he is its just im not going to praise rogers as an amazing fighter when he's beaten a buncha nobodies and then flash ko's arlovski who isnt known for having a good chin. u cant train to have a good chin and it will always be arlovskis achiles heal. I think rogers is a formidable opponent and has a punchers chance but nowhere near elite. Carwin is in the same boat he has all the tools to be great but im not gunna hail him as an elite fighter yet because he beat a buncha nobodies then almost got ko'd by GG and won with a sloppy knock out. im not bashing on either fighter because i think they are both impressive i think im just still kinda pissed that its not fedor vs lesnar and they are both gunna be fighting people who are undefeated but have only beaten one top fighter.

I agree, say did you hear Petruzelli said he is coming back to the UFC and wants to fight Kimbo again. He said know that Kimbo is the in the UFC he wants to come back and fight him again. Based on those comments i guess that would mean Kimbo made it far enough to maybe earn a roster spot in the UFC. I mean the season is over and Seth is bringing this up so i am sure he knows more than we do at the moment. Damn i was hoping to see Kimbo get KTFO.

Carwin is in a lot of your minds a beast and a huge threat to lesnar but yet you think Brett is not. Like you said Dane Carwin is in the same boat as Rogers. They have both earned quick kos. Its guys like this that can pull off the upset. If you dont want to watch the fight then you are simply not a true mma fan you are a ufc fan. There is a big difference.

I love watching MMA period, no one is counting out Rogers or Carwin or any fighter for that matter, every fighter has a fighting chance. I hope Rogers beats Fedor and well i hope Lesnar beats Carwin but i wouldnt be to unhappy if he lost. Its MMA things happen and fighters eventually get beaten. With that said Lesnar should win and Fedor should win and Kimbo still sucks but props for even trying.

Carwin earned a quick KO? so that battle with GG was a qucik KO eh? My how selective some people's memories are.

Lesnar is the man, and Rodgers isn't, though Rodgers has a much better record??? The WWE counts for more than I thought, I guess. Lesnar was ushered right into title range, but Rodgers has the padded rec??? Let's keep things in perspective plz. The HW class in the UFC isn't that deep.

I'm glad to see Fedor fight someone young and dangerous. The UFC has convinced so many people that if it's not UFC, it's not really fighting on a top level.

Let me say, wherever Fedor fights, then becomes the top level, at least at HW. If the UFC couldn't sign him, then they loose out hugely. Fedor's paid, owns his own likeness, still gets to do the sambo thing, AND doesn't have to participate in the UFC drama machine.

CBS is pushing the fight, and openly saying to millions in the public, what fighters/trainers/non-american's already know. FEDOR is the best in mma.

All this, "he has to chest beat in the UFC to count" is bullsh&%.

    end rant

Miko go back and watch the fight. If you forget the fight lasted 1 minute and 9 seconds. And you say I have a "selective memory"? lol I think that is a quick knockout to me. Sure Carwin got rocked everytime Gonzaga grazed his chin but what do you think it was a 3 round war lol. Quick KOs for both Rogers and Carwin. Its a fact.
