According to M-1 Global, Gegard Mousasi (25-2-1) will take on Renato “Babalu” Sobral (32-8) at Affliction 3 “Trilogy” on Aug 1 from the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA.

Sources close to Mousasi have informed www,M-1Global.com that current Strikeforce light heavyweight champion and former UFC competitor Renato “Babalu” Sobral is expected to finalized as his opponent.

Affliction has yet to issue an official comment regarding the possible Sobral vs. Mousasi showdown. However, both fighters have been advertised for the event and a formal announcement by Affliction Vice President Tom Atencio could be made as soon as Wednesday during a scheduled press conference in New York.

Mousasi was rumored to be facing middleweight Vitor Belfot, but that apparently fell trough as Belfort was unwilling to make the jump to light heavyweight or even fight Mousasi at a catch weight.

The Strikeforce light heavyweight champion, Renato Babalu Sobral, holds an impressive fight record with wins over Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, Cyrille Diabate, Chael Sonnen, Maurcio “Shogun” Rua, Mike Whitehead, Trevor Prangley, David Heath and Maurice Smith.

This should be good. Babalu has been looking great lately and Mousasi looks pretty unbeatable.

This should be an interesting fight, just want to say that Gegard Mousasi is in my book one of the best fighters at 185 ive seen him compete in the Dream Tournament and his submission game is top level not only did he beat a top abu dabi champion like jacare buy way of knock out but has been consistent ever since than . his first fight at 205 against Mark Hunt proves that he can fight at this weight.disposing of Hunt by way of submission. Sobral will lose this one , the UFC should really try to negotiate a contract with this fighter.

Andre – Mousasi fought at heavyweight, not light heavyweight (205). Hunt is a big dude and weighs in at about 250-270lbs. I believe Mousasi was at around 215 for this fight.

The winner of this fight should be brought into the ufc for sure. Both of these guys have the talent to be in the ufc but with how Babalu was cut in all form the uc and that whole sportsmanship issue I doubt he will get asked back. Gegard is a beast.
