It’s Official: Rampage Jackson vs. Shogun Rua This Summer [UPDATE - Fight Postponed]

It’s looks like Dana White got a little sick and tired of hearing Quinton “Rampage” Jackson rant about how bad the UFC has treated him. It was announced on FX’s “UFC Tonight” that Rampage would finally get the grudge match that he has been asking for and will fight Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. No word yet on the date, but it’s likely that the fight will take place sometime this summer.

It was also stated on the show that this will be the last fight for Rampage in the UFC:

“As reported on Fuel TV’s UFC Tonight, UFC President Dana White has revealed that disgruntled former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson will face another former champ, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. The stellar pairing will be a rematch of their 2005 PRIDE bout, which Rua won by knockout. The bout is the last of Jackson’s UFC contract, and he and the UFC are expected to part ways after the fight, which doesn’t have a site or date yet.”

Rampage first asked for this fight after losing to Jon “Bones” Jones in a UFC light heavyweight championship fight, but Shogun was scheduled to fight Dan Henderson at the time. This is a grudge match for Rampage as Shogun knocked him out with soccer kicks in the first round the first time the met in Pride Fighting Championships in 2005.

UPDATE:
It looks like this fight will have to wait because Rampage wants time to get surgery on both knees. Via his Twitter:

“2 keep it real, the Shogun fight will have 2 wait,I just found out that I have 2 get surgery on both knees, but I heal fast don’t trip.”

Wow. Good thing Rampage won’t have to deal with soccer kicks to the head in this fight.

He's just stalling because he knows after that fight he'll be a nobody outside of the UFC.
