Jon Fitch “Betrayed” By Pro Wrestling, Hopes MMA Stays a Sport

Jon Fitch’s long standing feud with Pro Wrestling has him hoping MMA stays a true sport,

“For me, I want to make sure we stay true to the sport and I don’t want to see this become pro wrestling because I hate pro wrestling. I was betrayed by pro wrestling when I was a child and I don’t want to be doing that to some other kid now who’s watching fights and UFC fights and watching me and other guys and thinking that it’s real. I want to make sure that it’s real. When I went to my first wrestling practice in the fourth grade, I found out that pro wrestling was fake. And that was the worst, ultimate betrayal I could have ever encountered in my life at that time. Since then, shut ‘em off, threw all my wrestling stuff away that day. I was just over it. I want to make sure (MMA) stays a sport.”

Fitch might just have to accept the realization that in any sport which high dollars are paid, “entertainment” is key to keep fans buying the pay-per-views and filling the seats.

Their is a reason REAL “Pro Wrestling” doesn’t exist, no one wants to watch a man laying on top another man for 15 minutes. Does anyone disagree that expecting a fighter to finish one in five fights that unreasonable?

The guys last finish was in 2007, why hasn't he been cut?

Damn, he took pro wrestling way too seriously. It may be fake but at least they have finishes in their shows.

All these comments make me crazy. Hiding behind a keyboard, nothing accomplished in your lives – but hey let me hammer one of the best fighters on the planet for not finishing some of the other best fighters on the planet. Get a life. Go out and compete in MMA locally and finish your own fights. Then tell me how it feels when you have blood running down the back of your throat after 12 minutes of balls out fighting and hear the crowd moan. Until then, how about just continuing to spend time surfing porn and wasting your life away?

It's a sport and it's entertainment. Don't bitch to the keyboard warriors, bitch to Dana White for keeping Fitch out of title fights even though he hasn't lost in years. Like it or not, it's the kind of sport where the most entertaining fighters get the best opportunities. ex.) Brock Lesnar, Jon Jones

Whats wrong with surfing for porn? FYI I am 1-0 in MMA (AZ local TKO 2009) FTW.

You need to get off your knees at AKA and realize that all pro sports survive on entertainment.

If you can make the time to surf porn and fight in MMA, you're the shit.

You guys are missing the point. He's trying to say that making it more about the entertainment is going in the WWE direction. Established sports – football, basketball, baseball – it's about wins and losses and not which team has the best uniforms or most liked playters. That's what a true sport is.

Yep, the sport should be entertaining for real fans. Fitch is an exciting fighter and he's fighting world class competition. Think about it, you have 15 minutes to put a world class athlete and fighter completely out.

If you guys hate decisions now, wait till all fighters are really well rounded years from now. There will be more decisions just like boxing.

Then play for the fans! Entertain them and try to finish. Tell me I'm wrong but doesn't Fitch look great in every first round and crappy in every round after. Give fans a reason to fight for you.
