That about summoned up there fight.
I not sure what Starnes was doing but he did backpedal the whole fight! I think he throw a total of 5-6 punches.
What got me was Starnes got pissed when Quarry started mocking him what did you think he was gonna be happy because you didn't come to fight. I love the Canadians they really know there MMA and show it with there boos in this fight haha.
April 20, 2008 at 2:28 am
I seriously almost peed myself last night when i saw this! Bad bad show Kalib, thank god for the entertainment and others fights, otherwise i would have been pissed on the $$ spent!
April 20, 2008 at 2:35 am
All I can say is WTF Kalib. I have been a fan of his for a while( being from Vancouver and all). I hope there was something wrong with him, because that was NOT the Kalib Starnes I am used to seeing fight. I am always ready to give someone the benifit of the doubt, but if he has another fight even close to that, he needs to go back to his security job at Fraser Downs race track. I would also like to say how proud I am of being a Canaidian after watching the show of respect the Fans in Montreal gave SERRA after his fight with GSP.
April 20, 2008 at 2:49 am
all i can say is my man kalib took a dive. he bet on himself that he would lose my decision. and for sure got paid! good in the short run, but bad in the long run cause ufc is going to let his ass go!
April 20, 2008 at 4:36 am
How much did KALIB "THE COWARD" STARNES get paid?
April 20, 2008 at 4:38 am
Kalib just isn't a true MMA fighter, you saw him quit on the show cause he claimed his rib was broken but it wasn't!
I hope Dana White told Starnes that he is finished in the UFC after that fight. Not only did he get mocked in the Octagon, but his pride didn't even get hurt enough to make him at least push forward after Quarry began his antics. Instead he flipped the bird like a lil panzy and continued to backup then even covered up. Pitiful.
April 20, 2008 at 4:46 am
Starnes is done. How are you going to back peddle when a guys is coming at you with one arm. Then after the fight he found his balls and started trash taking and wanting to fight Quarrys corner. He'll never be in the UFC again.
April 20, 2008 at 5:39 am
yeah man, UFC fighters would do anything to be on the main card. even andre arlovski was mad that he wasn't on the main card. and starnes got to be on the two fights away from the main event. what an honor. if you're on the main card, you shold fight like it. people are paying for this PPV stuff. and to me, it looked like starnes was just scared of getting starched. he shold have worked on his boxing more to build that confidence. lastly, starnes probably didn't make more than $16K for the fight, but if he bet on himself, he would have make a substantial amonut, since he was a big underdog.
April 20, 2008 at 6:49 am
if starnes bet i hope he bet for quarry because he never looked like he wanted any part of that fight. i remember on TUF that shamrock didn't like him because after he won his first fight, he didn't want to participate in sparring or rolling because he didn't want to get hurt.
April 20, 2008 at 6:51 am
i don't think i'll ever get tired of looking at that replay. a score of 30-24. wow, great job starnes. on the other side quarry looked a lot better than he did in his last fight against drago.
April 20, 2008 at 7:11 am
Did you hear after the fight, in the cage, he started to cuss back at fans who were talking shit.
I think the dude lost it..
April 20, 2008 at 7:33 am
I'm sure he flipped when he heard he got 10-8's. Thats the way people are going to remember him is by that fight. I really don't get what he was so afraid of. Getting KO'd is way better than looking like you're scared of fighting.
April 20, 2008 at 8:10 am
No shit, what a puss.
April 20, 2008 at 8:19 am
i was at the event, and the boo's directed at Kalib were some of the loudest of the nite. i dont know how much of it the tv cameras picked up but it was insane. Terrible showing for Kalib, he'll need to rethink his career.
April 20, 2008 at 8:25 am
The Rock is bad and he looks great and was being funny
April 20, 2008 at 8:33 am
Nate really saved that fight from being totally forgettable. Kalib the Coward Starnes better like washing dishes because he won't be fighting in any major company for the next 10 to 20 years.
April 20, 2008 at 8:42 am
in times like these, they should have a mechanism where they shrink the ocatagon into a small 8' by 8' square.
April 20, 2008 at 3:01 pm
That was horrible. No pride or class. Starnes is like a guy from never back down; a guy who trains and just tries to get girls by saing he fights mma. Would i wanna get knocked out ? of course not. But running? you train years to get on the UFC to run around? he looked like the farthest he got in his training was the shuffling around the mats during warm ups. he should be embarrassed for not only looking like a coward but talking smack after. that was probably the worst case of "THAT guy" syndrome i have ever seen.
April 20, 2008 at 5:11 pm
I'd kill to see what Dana will or has already said to Starnes about this fight and hope he tossed his yellow ass out of the UFC!
April 21, 2008 at 12:05 am
The media here in BC where Kalib "THE COWARD" lives has said nuthin!
He owes millions of people here a huge apology and then he needs to move to Toronto……….
April 21, 2008 at 12:08 am
starnes is a pussy and also talks a lot of shit he cants back up..hes out of the ufc for sure cause he yalls and bitchs to much other ppl after he loses
April 21, 2008 at 2:31 am
Just heard Starnes on the radio station from Montreal.
Basically he sets the record straight and backs it up with proof. As many of you know this was his last fight of the UFC contract and he has always voiced his dissatisfaction with his salary. Basically after the Kendall Grove fight where his rib was broken, UFC did NOT cover any medical bills even though it happened on the "work site".
He said that he is one of the many fighters who get injured and never compensated by the UFC. He was well aware that he was on the main card because it was Canada, and this being his last fight he decided to protest in the names of all underpaid fighters and screw over the UFC.
This is NO joke because he claimed that the only reason Dana White officially released the fight bonuses was in order to counter-act the public statement that Starnes is about to make or would have made. However, since the 75k fight bonuses were disclosed Kalib's martyr actions may not be as significant.
Nevertheless, expect an official statement later this week as his gym is holding a official press conference on Wednesday. We all know that the "real" Kalib Starnes would have never fought the way he did and luckily there IS an explanation.got this off of sherdog
April 21, 2008 at 2:55 am
that's f**ked up. whatever he f**kin did, he did at my expense and every other fan that paid.
he didn't screw the UFC, he screwed us. That's all we need – MMA fighters union
ok, so he's not really a COWARD……………
he's a MORON!!!!!
Thanks, I feel better now
April 21, 2008 at 3:45 am
Shameful way to protest against the injustice if in fact the UFC doesn't pay for the injuries and medical bills…
but I agree with Khalib, it needs to be brought to light and the ufc SHOULD be covering medical expenses brought on due to a fight.. especially if the fighter is in a contract with said organization..
April 21, 2008 at 4:02 am
IT IS BULLSHIT THAT THE UFC DOES NOT COVER ITS FIGHTERS UNDER CONTRACTS MEDICAL EXPENSES. Dana and the Fertitas make plenty of money and they can back there fighters 100% and they should. HOWEVER, Starnes wanted to make a statement and I think he went about it in the wrong way. In a round about way he is trying to do something similair to what Couture is doing but Kalib Starnes is a nobody let alone a UFC hall of famer. There is a time and a place for everything and in the ring on a main card getting a chance to show the world what you've got isn't it. He will always be the guy who is the runner, not a fighter.
April 21, 2008 at 5:36 am
Royden…nice. If it is a protest he did it the wrong way. It made him look bad and everyone who went to that event or paid to see it got screwed too. The better way would be to get the win and then bring it up in the post fight interview.
April 21, 2008 at 6:38 am
At the end of the day, regardless of the behind the scene politics, he is supposed to be a professional, an athlete, and someone who doesn’t bring his childish, disgruntled actions in to the Octagon. Even when he was on the Ultimate Fighter he was a moaning, excuse making wannabe. He has brought this all upon himself and I hope I never have to see another fighter come up against him. He is done and deservedly so!
April 21, 2008 at 1:15 pm
what the fuck is wrong with this guy? wow….. just wow.
I have to say though, its not often you get a good chuckle watching an mma match.
April 21, 2008 at 2:26 pm
I am (or was ) a fan of Kaleb. I was hoping he was hurt or there was at least some other rational excuse to his actions. I guess i am sorely dissapointed. Its to bad you decided to go this route Kaleb , because if your grievences are valid, then you would have done the Fighters you say you are representing a better service by going out and kicking the living sh!t out of The ROCK.As it was it was a very sorry excuse for a protest. I cant believe I was trying to defend you, I want my $10 CDN bacK BEEEYYYOTCHHHH
April 21, 2008 at 2:46 pm
Shut the f up please plz and realize whats going on. The UFC is bullshez yea you pay for these fights and you could get crap. What about Sylvia vs Arloski sparring mathc why arent they fired idiots. The UFC wont' pay their fighters and won't take card of them. So the fighters wont' take care of you. Get with it the UFC is crooked. Blame Dana not Kalib.
April 21, 2008 at 2:53 pm
Kenflo: "It is very difficult to mount an offense when you are constantly retreating." classic line
April 21, 2008 at 5:02 pm
I'm not buying Kalib's excuse for the fight. Even if it's true a real competitor would never throw a fight like that. nate looked great and I think the next step fro him would be a rematch with Franklin it makes the most sense in that weight class either that or a fight with Okami
April 21, 2008 at 5:24 pm
Greg F. types like Starnes fights. Offensive to the eyes.
April 22, 2008 at 12:01 am
i hope they dont bring him back…after gettin his ass kicked and runnin like a bitch afterwards he doesnt deserve to come back
April 22, 2008 at 9:13 am
Look like Mayweather in the ring. Oh, at least Mayweather does throw a few punches…
April 22, 2008 at 2:57 pm
The Franklin fight and the GSP one where the only ones worth talking about. The rest was filler.
If this fight had ended in a KO, it still would have been an average fight.
Buying/closing PRIDE didnt do much to increase the quality, just got rid of a competitor that could rise the fees of fighters.
16,000$ to fight in a UFC card?
Kimbo used to make more on side bets when he used to fight those slow maricons.
Very underwhelmed by the quality of the cards. And no, I dont watch that gay reality show, so I dont have that built in name recognition that UFC fanbois have. And throwing in some third rate canadian fighters to soothe the natives is a cheap ploy that might impress the dimwits but is nothing more than a subsitute to paying for better quality fighters.
QUALITY not QUALITY (or TV personalities).
April 22, 2008 at 5:25 pm
In a post UFC 83 interview, Kalib Starnes said that he broke his foot and was waiting to see a UFC medical claims representative so he could get x-rays……..Sounds to me like the UFC does in fact cover its fighters medical bills.
April 23, 2008 at 2:01 am
Couldn't disagree more with the 37th post. Did you somehow miss the Danzig v Bocek fight, which was the best fight of the night. While GSP v Serra was what everyone wanted to see, it still turned out to be a rather unremarkable fight.
And yes the fight fee was 16K, but the fight bonuses where 75K. This follows the UFC's formula of rewarding guys who fight well, not just paying them to show up.
April 25, 2008 at 9:58 pm
There is no excuse for that behavior. If he was "protesting" he shouldn't have shown up to the fight. He should have passed on the fight or, as has already been said, tried to win so he secured some airtime in the post fight interview. All he did was dig his own grave.
And all this complaining about the UFC is stupid. I'm certainly not a fan of Dana but in free societies contracts are sacred. If you don't like the terms, and I realize this is a hard thing to understand for the masses of idiots out there, DON'T SIGN THE CONTRACT THEN! Let's buy homes we can't afford, hd tvs we can't afford, SIGN FIGHTING CONTRACTS WE CAN'T HONOR, and then try to weasel out of it after the other end of the party held up to their obligations of the contract. He should never get a fight where people have to pay to see it again. I used to like him. In a way I'm glad he did what he did. Now the fans realize what a douchebag he really is.
Oh, and hat's off to Quarry for at least trying to fight and giving the fans something entertaining. Kudos.
May 3, 2008 at 1:31 pm
So "Kalib the Coward", to protest and "screw over" the UFC decides his swan song is to back pedal his way to mma notority by this shameful display in his home country! Hmmm…maybe someone can doctor his video with a bikini and octagon girl round sign…or maybe there's a spot for him/her there after all !He'll still be able to tap dance…broken foot and all as he had no trouble running!
December 13, 2008 at 1:14 pm
He had to lose the fight. The Hell's Angels told him to lose or else they would go after him. Inside info that i picked up
