Keith Kizer Hits Back After Joe Rogan Rant

Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) director Keith Kizer probably came to work Monday morning with a inbox full of fan hate mail after Joe Rogan went off on the commission following the Leonard Garcia vs Nam Phan decision at the TUF 12 Finale.

“If Joe Rogan wants to get on the air and call people names, that’s his business. I’m not going waste my time responding to that. They always say that ‘the UFC has nothing to do with judging.’ Well guess what, they’ve got a big fight coming up in Canada called Koscheck vs. Georges St. Pierre – the UFC and Marc Ratner are flying Tony Weeks up there as a judge. C’mon, Joe. How about some honesty? They’ve taken 90% of our officials with them overseas, as they should. That’s not a knock on Dana [White] and Marc [Ratner]; they know what they’re doing … Yeah, I have a problem with how they scored the third round. Definitely. I mean, they’re both very good judges which makes it all the more surprising … There have been judges that we’ve had here who we’ve sent packing. It didn’t work out. Every judge needs to stay sharp, but everyone makes mistakes. You hear so many people cry ‘robbery’ about this and that. I get emails about it all of the time. I go back and watch the fight, and you say to yourself, ‘What? That wasn’t a robbery. The judges got it right!’ A lot of people were saying that about the Rampage vs. Machida fight. Even Dana White said that. You get people who love to overreact. Obviously there are people who want to feel superior than others, trash others. Maybe they are full of some self-hate, some self-pity, maybe that’s Rogan’s piece as well. There are ways to criticize professionally, ethically, effectively and legitimately. But then there are ways where you are just trying to make yourself look better.” []

Rogan has been very outspoken on the lack of “knowledge of the sport” many commission judges seem to display in fight scoring.

Joe is an absolute moron. He thinks he knows what he is talking about but he doesn't. Not only were his comments strong, but he was wrong and that is worst- to be strong and wrong.

P4P….did you watch the fight??? Rogans assessment of the judging was dead on. Anyone who thought Garcia won that fight is a moron and should not be a judge….even Garcia himself was surprised he won. In addition, how many times have we heard Dana say the UFC has NOTHING to do with the judges….well looks like Mr. Kizer just opened that can of worms.

Agreed, they have to have some hand in the judging, but the garcia pham fight decision was a joke. That was way worse than rampage machida decision or the machida rua decision

It was a weak response. List the MMA Judges qualifications, experience, and Technical knowledge of Pro MMA. He avoided all that and make his own claims of the UFC being underhanded and even claimed that Judges can make mistakes. Rogan is getting annoying but I've got to agree with him here.

PoppyNick – I did watch the fight and I do think that it was a BS decision but then he should have stuck "that" decision. He should have ripped into those judges that thought that Garcia won. Nothing else or nobody else had anything to do with "that" decision.

As far as Dana saying that he does not have anything to do with the judges, I think what he means is in employing them or picking them for the events in the US…which is fine. All Keith is saying is that Dana must be OK with the judges since he is flying them to other countries when the UFC holds an event there. In his comment, Dana is trying to distance himself from NSAC but the truth is that he has worked with them. I don't blame Dana for that because who know what kind of judges you can find in these other countries but dont try to separate yourself when you are partnering on events that you dont have to partner on.

I dont have a problem with Rogans assessments during the fights, he talks half as a pro commentator and half as a casual fan. Yes it's contoversial, maybe he's right maybe he's wrong but entertaining all the same and i'd rather have that than a commentator sitting on the fence all the time boring the ass off the fans in a monotone voice.

As for the judges i think the powers at be need to set up an independant panel to constantly judge the actual judges on their performances to keep the standards as high as they can.
