Kenny Florian ‘Lets Make It Happen’ UFC 101 Fight With BJ Penn Still Not Signed

Kenny Florian on ESPN’s MMA Live:

“At the end of the day, I just want this fight to be signed … Let’s get an event, let’s get a date, and let’s make it happen.”

“Hopefully it is true … Aug. 8, it’s supposed to be in Philadelphia at the Wachovia Center, which would be phenomenal for me. I’m from the East Coast.”

“I think the fans want to see Penn against Florian,” [Junkie]

On Thursday ESPN’s MMA Live, host Kenny Florian discussed his frustration that his title fight with BJ Penn has still yet to be signed. BJ Penns dwelling on UFC 94 “GreaseGate” has just fueled his agenda for a rematch with Georges St. Pierre.

This is a classsic case of BJ Penn screwing over another fighter. If he does not make this happen soon he should be stripped of his title and Florian being top contender should take over. Then once Penn decides to finally return he can be a mandatory challenger for the title. Florian needs to fight and needs the money as he is not a spoiled little bitch rich kid who thinks he can do whatever he wants. I am so sick of penn and I used to actually like this guy until the whole lead up to GSP. Make this happen or the UFC needs to step in for Florian and the fans. BJ Penn is a loser.

yeah bj needs to move on, i think if he dosn't sign the fight he should be stripped but the title should not be given to kenny he has to earn it, a fight between him and sherk winner is the new champ and if bj comes decides to wake up than he can challenge the winner.

I agree, hes a puke and he needs to fight or give up the belt and let florian and another fighter fight for it. No free lunch baby you gotta earn it.

I agree BJ needs to sign the Florian fight. I don't mind so much him persuing the greasing incident. It wouldn't have changed the outcome of the fight, but the blatant disregard for the rules as demonstrated by Phil Nurse needed to to be addressed. Florian's kind of in limbo and that sucks. I don't think BJ understands financial stress–he was born rich and can't relate to "everyday" money problems. This, combined with his lackluster performance with GSP, Greasegate, and dragging his feet signing the Florian fight is putting a really bad taste in the mouths of BJ fans. Conversely, people who didn't care for BJ before are definitely hating on him more than ever.

All this said, I must say Florian gets on my nerves a bit. He's an accomplished guy–I still remember how exciting and unexpected it was when he beat Leben on TUF. But all his talk about "I finish fights!" and "You better pray when Silva calls it's not about fighting Kenny Florian!" makes me roll my eyes and wish for a little more humility. Yeah, he finished Lauzon ( a lot less experienced) and Stevenson (who, I must agree with Diego, is a likable guy but unevolved) but what about Sherk? What about all the hype with the Huerta fight–I personally thought it fell flat and he played it way too safe. He by no means kicked Huerta's ass. Huerta, on the other hand never seemed to relax–I think the pressure and publicity of the fight (his biggest ever) played with his head a little–if he comes back to UFC, I'm sure those jitters will be gone–he seems the type to learn from mistakes.

I think Florian and Diego should go at it again, and the winner gets BJ. Although it would only be Diego's second fight at 155, he's a pro and has continually shown growth and commitment. He deserves a shot.

Nikkidee, that is beautifully written and I agree completely. I hate when people call BJ a spoiled rich kid. Maybe he is, but how the fuck does that matter AT ALL on this site? Florian is really good, but he seems a little too confident about the BJ fight. Confidence is good, but being over confident is your own weapon against you. He has never beaten anyone at BJ's caliber, nor has he fought anyone at that level, other than Sherk I would say. Be confident, not cocky.

I guess I just don't see how diego deserves a shot right now florian has beaten everyone they put in front of him while bj was busy preping to get murdered by GSP and faught one other fight that he didn't even need to fight in other than for the money, which for the record their is no way in hell BJ would do. I don't like BJ and thats because he treats the MMA world and other fighters like hes fucking royalty and everyone should be on his time table. To spend tim ewith his daughter, REALLY? I anyone that posts on this site said I want to take some time off to spend with my kids, other than like a week of vaca your boss would laugh at you. People call him a rich kid because thats what he acts like a spoiled little rich kid, stop making excuses and get your ass back in the ring to fight in YOUR weight class or give it up already.
