Kimbo Slice To Take on Brett Rogers in October

kimbo slice vs. brett rogers

kimbo slice vs. brett rogers

According to Aol Sports, EliteXC fighter Kimbo Slice will try to repair his reputation by taking on undefeated heavyweight Brett “The Grim” Rogers (7-0) sometime in October.

Kimbo Slice on the Dan Le Batard’s radio show:

“probably in October….They called me out, and now they got the fight,”

Rogers and Slice get into an altercation at the post-fight press conference after Rogers calls Slices performance:

“garbage” and “unacceptable”

Brett Rogers, 27, is on a three fight wining streak with EliteXc, with all his wins coming by way of first round stoppage’s. He holds a knock out victory over Kimbo Slices last opponent, James Thompson at “EliteXC Street Certified” back in February.

Like Thompson Brett Rogers will also have a 30 lb. weight advantage over Kimbo.

This is a dangerous fight for Kimbo, but EliteXC must legitimize their headliner and what a better way to gain respect then take on one of the best heavyweight EliteXC has to offer. I can guarantee you this fight will not go to the ground.

if this is true it is all for show. i bet that in sept or early oct kimbo will fake an injury so he dosent have to fight rogers and get his face pounded in. rogers is a good fighter and kimbo is a fake

With all due respect any fighter now matter how good can get knocked out with one punch, i do not like kimbo but the man can swing his fists, he must adapt more to a boxing style instead this swinging for the fences crap. He also must get his conditioning in better shape but face it the man is old i believe he is about to push 40 in a few years at least he looks like it. Brett from what i have seen is a force to be reckoned with and this will be a good chance for both fighters to prove themselves hell if and i mean if Kimbo wins just imagine that hype, but even more crazy would be when Brett is known at the man who knocked Kimbo out and retired his ass and put the so called hype story to shame. This undoubtily will either break or make the elite XC. Seriously though it wouldnt surprise me if the they rig this fight and have the refs not stop shit until Kimbo starts to get Brett in trouble and then all of a sudden they stop it out of know where just to save his rep. i hope it doesnt turn out that way, Brett definetly has the edge and if he is smart he should take Kimbo down and Ground and pound cause when you stand up you always risk that what if factor. should be a good match.

kimbo has extra time to get in shape and work on his weaknesses. no telling where he will be in october.

Kimbo didn't perform well. Now he lost all of that easy momentum and from now on he's going to have to work for it.

this might be a good match up for him, bret is not going to take him down he is the bigger and stronger of the two but does not have the sharpest boxing skills so it will probally come down to who lands first.

    June 9, 2008 at 4:37 am

Can't wait for a good old fashioned can crushing…….this is where everyone who doesnt get it finds out just "bad" Kimbo really is and i dont mean bad in a good way.

i could see kimbo getting knock out in this one, but he could also win, bret looks good but is not a top fighter and is a striker so it gives kimbo a chance.

ROY and TIM are right. ROGERS is a stand fighter like KIMBO so you can't write him off completely. He can still drop just about anybody with only a few punches or even just 1 BIG BOMB to the chin. Is ROGERS the favorite in this one? Yeah. But is it already over? Not at all. ROGERS did do the right thing calling out KIMBO it puts him out in front and if he does KO KIMBO then his In the top 2 ELITE XC HW's with BIGFOOT SILVA,

i don't think rogers will stand with kimbo in striking. i think he might do it initially, but then choose to put kimbo in a guillotine and wear him out. rogers mainly just wants to win. that would make him the new kimbo.

Rogers is a Kimbo hater. He is going to come into this fight the same way Abbott did. He will come in cocky and will be ready to show the world that kimbo is a nobody. Kimbo will stay humble. he will not underestimate rogers, but he will be pissed off and will be ready to bang. His ground game will be much improved by october because bas will be able to use the thompson fight to see where kimbo needs work. But if Brett Rogers seriously thinks he can stand up and slug with kimbo, then i can;t wait to watch kimbo put him flat on his face. Kimbo will be out for blood in this one.

Plus, no way kimbo is going down to some chubby black dude with a frohawk hahah

I don't get it. Why does everyone think Kimbo is such a joke? The man has 3 professional fights under his belt and 1 amatuer bout. I will give you the fact that the way they are treating him is somewhat of an insult to the sport as he definately has not earned the privilidge of headlining events but give the man a shot. His ground game is definatly not up to par but the man isnt a joke. He is a fresh fighter who is more than solid with his hands (and by the way if Rogers chooses to stands and trade fists, Brett is gonna find himself on his back stiff as a board). Rogers best shot at winning this fight is to take it to the ground. But after Kimbo's last showing i wouldnt be suprised if his ground game is a little more solid as i think that will be the main focus of his training camp. Im not saying Kimbo is a championship fighter and currently i do believe he would be screwed if he fought a true top teir competitor (which Rogers is definatly not) but the man is dangerous and the more he learns the more dangerous he will become.

First of all, Bale. Everyone thinks he is a joke because of the people they give hime to fight. Have you seen their records? Cantrell lost his last four fights before Kimbo. Tank had lost 10 out of the last 14 fights. Thompson had lost 6 out of his last 8 fights. See where i'm going. EliteXC is giving him burn outs to hype him up. Now he's fighting someone worthy and the world can see that Kimbo is just not worth the hype.

I am well aware of who he has fought and furthermore their record. They have been chumps and i am not contesting that. The problem they are going to run into is that there is currently no one in EliteXC that can be considered top tier. Im sorry if you think Brett Rogers is so unbelievably reputable. Dude would get stomped out in the UFC (as would Kimbo). You misinterpret what im trying to say. Im not arguing that Kimbo is some gloriously awesome fighter who is going to demolish everyone he faces, im arguing that just as the MMA world is guilty of giving him this amount of notoriety fans are too quickly assume that a new fighter is automatcially a bum. In my opinion Rogers seems to be the egotistical fighter here. What is his record? It's 7-0 (looks great until you look deeper) he has fought against a whole bunch of nobodies (wow sounds like Kimbo's situation) and all of his fight have ended due to TKO, KO, or submission from strikes (oh my once again sounds a lot like Kimbo….both dont seem to have a ground game). So i question the merit in your statement that Brett Rogers is the unquestioned worthy opponent to prove Kimbo is a chump.

Alright, I appologize Bale. I actually know little to nothing about Rogers. I'm just tired of everyone hyping up Kimbo to be this amazing fighter which I don't think he is. Does he have potential? Yes, with lots of training. Luckily he has an excellent coach, and he'll always have a punchers chance. I just don't give any credit to Kimbo because he talks trash and he hasn't fought anyone reputable yet. On to better things. Forrest and Quinton huh? It's going to be a good one!

1st of all let me say that all of ya'll that think the UFC is so superior are fools. They dont even have the best heavyweight which is BY FAR Fedor "The Last Emperor" Emelianenko!!! Who just signed with Affliction to fight Tim Sylvia. All they have is Frank Mir and Antonio Nogueira. Big Deal!!! And Kimbo Slice isn't very good on the ground at all but neither is Chuck Liddell You dont have to be good on the ground. All he has to do is work on takedown defense and he will be fine. As far as his stand up is concerned he is just as good as ANY Heavyweight I have seen. Ya'll are a bunch of haters that THINK ya'll are so informed. The fact is anyway this fight has not been signed anyway. If it had been signed it would be on Major Networks in the MMA World and its not and it wont happen anytime soon. The truth is that Kimbo Slice, good or not, is the most popular MMA fighter in the U.S. besides maybe Chuck liddell and he brings in the ratings so they wont him to keep winning until they cash in on that huge huge fight, which maybe be against Brett Rogers, BUT NOT ANYTIME SOON.

    June 20, 2008 at 2:31 pm

Also, who cares if all your wins are by knockout? You better check Chuck Liddell's stats or Rampage's stats? Also, you can check almost all heavyweight's stats and there are more knockouts than anything else…. just how it is. And All i hear are these guys that Kimbo and Brett are fighting are chumps???? Thats how it goes, No 1 and I mean no 1 comes out fighting the best of the best….that would be stupid. O wait, The UFC did something like that…when Brock Lesnar fought Frank Mir in his damn 2nd fight??? Fucking stupid. Brock Lesnar could have been as big of a star as Kimbo but the UFC handled him wrong. He best the shit out of Mir, maybe there best heavyweight, for a minute and half and then through inexperience he stood up for no reason at all and got caught in a knee bar…. Dumbass UFC for ya…. AND ANYONE THAT THINKS HE DOESN'T DESERVE TO HEADLINE A FIGHTCARD IS AN IDIOT!!! PEOPLE ARE THERE TO SEE HIM i PROMISE YOU…PLZ HAVE HIS FIGHT FIRST AND WATCH PPL GET UP AND LEAVE AFTERWARDS OR CHANGE THE CHANNEL BC THAT IS WHAT WILL HAPPEN,,,,,,,

The Rampage-Forrest fight is going to be awesome. Who do you want to win? I started watching MMA when i was in the military based in Japan so i definately watched a lot more Pride than UFC. One of the first fights i remember seeing is when Rampage powerbombed Ricardo Arona into unconciosness. It was an awesome move. Makes me sad that not more Pride fighters have found success in the UFC. So although i think Forrest is a great fighter i hope Quinton keeps winning.

I'm a big fan of Quinton, but i've been a bigger fan of Forrest from the start so i'm hopeing for Forrest. Forrest is great. Quinton is too. No predictions there. I was stationed in Twentynine Palms for five years. I was a corpsman out there. Your self?

Mike. You must follow MMA very little at all if you think that Kimbo Slice is one of the most popular MMA fighters out there. The only people I know of that would think that are people that know little to nothing about the sport. Pride/Ufc They both have/had great fighters. Fedor, yes of course is amazing and it's unfortunate right now that we won't see him fighting more Ufc fighters to prove your point. Both have great fighters so arguing about who has/had the better fighters is non sense. There has been Pride fighters that crossed over and won and there has been some that lost. Why do people always want to argue the fact that Pride is better? I've been a fan of both for a long time. Do you also compare different music labels and argue which label has better bands? Sounds stupid right? Well that's what you're doing. Watch a lot more MMA and then come back with a reply.

You do realize that the Kimbo Slice fight was the MOST WATCHED MMA FIGHT EVER! I am not saying that he deserves to have the popularity that he has, but the fact is, He Does! Maybe the people that like him and like watching him aren't "true" MMA Fans, but who cares. The sport needs people like Kimbo to get more fans involved. It is good for all fighters. Keeps the sport growing and will get a lot of these fighters paid more in the long run. I promise you if you go around and ask the average person to name three MMA fighters that Kimbo Slice will be one of those named if they can even name three. I promise I watch plenty of MMA in all different leagues.

I never compared Pride to the UFC in the 1st place. I just said Fedor is the best Heavyweight in the World. Never mentioned Pride. You made the point that UFC is SO SUPERIOR to other leagues and I disagree. I do believe they have the Overall best talent but there are plenty of talents in other leagues. The IFL, WEC, and the EliteXC all have very very good fighters. And now with Affliction in the mix and all the money they have I am thinking they will get a lot of the fighters from all those leagues. For example, Vladimir Matyushenko, Ryan Schultz, and Jay Hieron from the IFL could all compete and be very successful in the UFC. And Urijah Faber from the WEC is arguably one of the top pound for pound fighters in the World. I promise you I watch enough MMA to know what I am talking about. We just have a difference in opinions.

unless kimbo is improving by leaps and bounds everyday he will get owned by rogers. rogers is a very good up and coming heavyweight and i just can't see kimbo being able to handle a dude that big. a ton rides on this for elitexc too. if kimbo loses then they are dead as a company. but i guess kimbo had to fight a real fighter someday and that day will be in october

When will everyone realize Brett Rogers is just as much an unchallenged fighter as Kimbo. Just like Kimbo he has fough a bunch of fighters who are really nobodies in the MMA world. Dig beyond the 7-0 record. Go and look at each of his challengers and their records, they are all bad (just the same as Kimbo's competition). Brett is gonna get his faced knocked off of his body if he tries to trade with Kimbo. Bottom line if Kimbo really is a joke (and im not saying he is or isnt) it wont be proven until they put him up against somebody credible and Brett Rogers is absolutley NOT it.

Kimbo is not ready for mixed martial arts. I think he could have developed as a boxer. It seemd to me that he lost some weight. I also think that he shuold have kept the weight on.
