Kimbo Slice vs. Sean Gannon Likely For Oct. 4th’s EliteXC on CBS

kimbo slice vs. gannon 2

Josh Gross over at Sports Illustrated has the frontrunner to face Kimbo Slice at EliteXC-CBS on Oct. 4, to be none other then Kimbo’s street fighting arch nemesis and former UFC fighter Sean Gannon.

Three names keep popping up as the next opponent for Kimbo Slice on Oct. 4: Brett Rogers, Ken Shamrock and … wait for it … Sean Gannon.

Gannon, a Boston police officer who defeated Slice in the most famous of the Miami street brawler’s underground fight videos. If you’ll recall, the UFC tried to capitalize on the YouTube-famed fight by signing Gannon in 2005, but Branden Lee Hinkle pounded him out in less than a round. Since then, Gannon has sat on the sidelines flirting with a big payday and a chance to rematch Slice on a larger stage.

At this point, unfortunately, signs are pointing to Gannon. The story works for CBS — it’s an easy sell and Kimbo shouldn’t face much of a threat. It’s perfect all around. That is, unless you think circus fights have no place in MMA, particularly in front of six million viewers.

Not the best news for hardcore’s, but It will preserve Kimbo Slice for bigger paydays down the line.

UPDATE: EliteXC VP Jared Shaw denies Sean Gannon is even a front runner.

“There are several options we’re considering right now. Gannon is not the guy,”

This is ridiculous. They look like a couple of complete assclowns fighting, everything was slow and who are all the deutchbags around? I can't believe they are going to try to call this legitimate MMA

They sure don't want him to fight Brett Rogers do they! lol

Hahaha. I knew it. I knew all of that talk about stepping it up and fighting better fighters was just hype. This has to be it I dont see how they can cash in on easy fights anymore after this one.

That was the first time I saw that video. That was some cheating at its best. Kimbos boys bailed him out two or three times.

I don't know if you all have seen a bad heavyweight fight at a local mma event but its a lot like this. Two big guys go at it and after a minute they just look at each other with their hands on their waist.

I thought Kimbo was up for a fight with Rogers? I'd want to see that. Gannon is just going to be another highligh KO for Kimbo.

this is just ridiculous. i dont know what kind of fight that was but kimbo isnt gonna be saved by his posse the next time. this is why i think elite xc is taking a big poop on mma. especially when we know they can put on a good show cuz the last one was ok. whats really funny is the fights in his hometown, and 10 min from my house, so all these miami gangsta wannabes can see this guy for the chump he really is. but he will probably win cuz they fixed the last fight so why not this one too

This is before Kimbo had any training in MMA and he didnt lose this fight on skill but he lost in due to CARDIO. Something that I think working in a gym and training full time will get rid of the problem at least help it out. They were both gassed after 2 minutes and Kimbo could barely stand after 3 min. Yes this did look like an amateur fight but who r we kidding? It was. Kimbo has since trained with Rutten to work on the different aspects of MMA. Do I think he is a UFC fighter? NO but he is definetly good enough to be in some of the C lvl shows like EliteXc. We know what happens when a guy with no ground game comes into MMA. Just look at Cheik Kongo. He has been getting better on the ground and the first time we saw him go to the ground was pathetic. He couldnt do anything. The point is MMA takes time so dont be so quick to judge just yet. DAmn ppl quit hating LOL

Well Gannon's nobody and Kimbo has learned alot since this fight so I could see him actually winning without any help from the ref. But if he wins it still doesn't show Kimbo as being a top MMA fighter. You should see the number of morons who comment on Kimbo's vids on YouTube who think he could fight top guys and hang!

The point of this fight wont be to show Kimbo as being a top contender. It will be to sell the show and give him more time to gain experience, train and evolve into a more rounded fighter.

highlight ko for kimbo prolly…but i'd really love to see him get dominated by gannon lol…im tired of this kimbo hype saying hes a top heavyweight and people saying he'd ko rampage, chuck, and whoever else people say he'll beat when yet hes fought noone good at all

show me a video of kimbo claiming to be one of the best heavyweights plz b/c I havent seen him say that once.He is actually pretty humble about the whole mma rankings and doesnt consider himself even a well rounded fighter yet by any means.

the best part is its free, and i still probably wont watch it, lets see how XC does when they compete with college football

This is MMA at its poorest , I mean what was Elite xc Thinking when they thought about this match up, how long is Kimbo going to be fighting chumps.

  13. STEVEO

    August 21, 2008 at 3:41 am

XC is starting to look alot like boxing, which is why many watch mma because it isnt rigged like most boxing, rigged as in people getting jobber opponents and ducking the best fighters out there just turning into a huge joke

This fight has got to be a joke! If this happens EliteXC will lose all of its remaining following. Afterwards their only way out would be to sell the brand to WWE.

Steve, I think Bryan is just saying the hype is saying he is a top contender. Thats something I can agree with you on. At best, you can say kimbo is confident, but he never has said he is a great fighter. I still say he can be a good fighter, if he gets a ground game.

STEVEO, this is a quote from a youtube kimbo video, a streetfight highlight video.

"kimbo is pretty good, for a ufc fighter. if he went up against someone like george foreman or iron mike, it wouldnt even be a fight. kimbo couldnt keep up with a boxer."

steve has it dead on. you can hate kimbo for what he's been hyped as but show me one interview where he claims to be the best hw or even a top hw. elite sold what the fans wanted.

i dont' think kimbo has lesnar talent but he will do pretty well in eliteXC. bigfoot just got caught cheating so i guess rogers is the only legit fight i can see for him.

kimbo needs to fight some real comp…… rampage jackson, the ice man chuck lidell, frank mer…… until then he just kimbo not a true mma legend

  20. Morey

    August 22, 2008 at 5:52 am

I really don't think he cares about being an mma legend. He just wants to fight and get paid.

when i said kimbo hype i didnt mean he was saying it about himself…i know hes an humble guy and hasnt said anything of the sort…i meant his fans are saying hes a top heavyweight and can beat those guys…steves right there are no videos of him saying that…this is a thread of all opinions and thats what i was doing

  22. Ryan S

    August 22, 2008 at 7:35 am

Big Gee, I agree, but probably not those fighters. Maybe if Kimbo could get down to that weight, but his build just seems too big. Now that he has been working on his standup, it would be interesting to see him fight straight standup fighters.

Sean was sooooooooooooooo cocked up that fight it was unbelievable!!!!!!! The man is a coke head and a half. He must of sniffed a pound before that fight. There is no way He survived Kimbo's hits the way he took them. He had to be numb!!! Did youll see how his face looked after that fight. That is why his appearance in UFC he got his ass whooooooooooopped!!! They test in UFC. I want to see a sober Sean Gannon fight Kimbo. Hands down Kimbo would murder him
