M-1: Fedor vs Mousasi Exihibition, King Mo vs. Mark Kerr To Headline

M-1 needs some star power for its ill fated M-1 “Breakthrough” event on August 28, so the promotion has decided to put on an if exhibition match instead. Fedor Emelianenko will take on Gegard Mousasi in a exhibition sparing fight.

The whole event was recently moved from LA to the Memorial Hall in Kansas City, just three weeks before the show.

Headlining the event will be King Mo vs Mark Kerr, Mo was to take on Don Frye, but Frye refused the fight after the change of venue was announced.

Here’s a bit from the M-1 press release,

“We were blown away by just how popular Fedor’s exhibition vs. Aoki in Japan was …. Fedor and Gegard have sparred many times together and the sessions have always been intense. Now fight fans watching on television and those attending live in Kansas City will get a rare glimpse at two of the best fighters in the world sparring each other.”

M-1 exec Joost Raimond on the change of venue, “The change in venues is unfortunate, however, the change was necessitated due to circumstances beyond our control,” said M-1 Global Chief Operating Officer Joost Raimond. “We had a partner in Los Angeles that backed out of certain commitments. However, instead of letting fighters and fans down by cancelling the event, we worked diligently to find a new location in Kansas City. At no point in time did we entertain the idea of canceling our first ‘Breakthrough’ event.”

NICE! Wonder how Strikeforce is gonna feel about M-1 stealing one of the few good matches they could have put on…If this goes bad for Gegard, there goes any hype they coul've thrown at that match up. The end starts NOW. (sad)

really? your going to not sign with the ufc where you could fight brock lesnar for the title right away to have a fucking sparring match with a LHW, some people just don't get it, and when it comes to this guy apparently im one of them.

I agree but the only reason i can think of is that with strikeforce they can co-promote events and build there M-1 logo….honestly though this means Fedor drops out of top competition and in essence ruins his credibility of being the best fighter ever since he will not fight top level competition. I hope Rogers or someone KO's him in strikeforce. For the Fans and MMA world Fedor fucked us all but from a business standpoint i understand but really Fedor you have to think out the long run and what your doing to your credibility and legacy.

Yeah I agree Tim. King Mo is not a headliner, not by a long shot. I think the only cool head in this odd outfit is Don Frye, who probably senses the sinking ship.
