Mark Cuban Sues Zuffa Over Couture’s Contract

I bet you didn’t see this one coming, Mark Cuban owner of HDNet and the Dallas Mavericks basket ball team has filed suit against UFC owners, Zuffa LLC. According to Adam Swift, Cuban is trying to get the court to make a ruling on when Randy Couture’s contract ends with Zuffa.

With the mixed martial arts industry focused on the Zuffa v. Couture proceedings scheduled to begin with a preliminary hearing March 4 in Las Vegas, billionaire Mark Cuban and his HDNet Fights company has quietly entered the fray, opening a second front in the Couture-UFC war, Sherdog.com has learned.

On Wednesday, in district court in Dallas, HDNet Fights filed suit against Zuffa seeking a declaratory judgment concerning the contractual status of Couture under his Zuffa promotional contract. In an ironic twist, Zuffa’s co-defendant in the suit is technically none other than Couture himself.

What Cuban wants from the Lawsuit:

The lawsuit filed by HDNet Fights asks the Texas court to provide the company with declaratory relief — a ruling on when Couture’s promotional contract will expire. A favorable ruling could clear the way for a highly anticipated showdown between Couture and Fedor Emelianenko (Pictures) this fall, potentially promoted by HDNet Fights.

“Sue and Be Sued”

Forget the Lawsuits and have Dana White take on Randy Couture in a boxing match, just like the one he had scheduled with Tito Ortiz on SpikeTV. If Dana wins Couture stays and fights Nogueira, if Couture wins Dana tears up Couture’s contract.

And just for some excitement, Couture must fight with one hand tied behind his back.

Like I said on the other thread, this is how billionaires fight. Now the two 800 pound gorillas have squared off against each other. Looks pretty obvious now who will broadcast the Randy v. Fedor fight whenever it does happen. And who ever doubted it would happen? It is just a matter of how long we have to wait: for the end of the fight contract or the end of the commentator contract.

I'm glad Cuban did this because it will force the UFC to set a date for when Randy will be clear of his contract.

Mark Cuban is a genius! I mean what better way to compete with UFC than to get free air time and attempt to host the most anticipated fight today. If HDNet gets this fight between Couture and Fedor then look out UFC! They would then have some major competition. I mean UFC didnt want to comete with Pride to they bought them out. Mark Cuban has more money that he knows what to do with and he won't sell out like Pride did. We just might be looking at the future organization wars in MMA. Also, if Cuban lands this fight then more fighters that have been or will be screwed over by the UFC will go work for Cuban to overrun the UFC. Guys like Ortiz, Sylvia, Arlovski, and Cro Cop.

You UFC haters crack me up! You think that if Mark Cuban climbs to the top of the MMA hill that he won't be just as greedy and monopolizing as the Fertitas? Just look at how he runs the Mavericks. Nobody becomes a billionaire without being greedy.

Great! Get rid of that monopolizing UFC. Cuban may be the man to clean up the sport. This will increase fighters salaries because there will be competition again. The only thing he has to worry about is now the Athletic Commissions.

Clean up the sport?? Have there been accusations of people taking a dive that I didn't hear about?

I saw Josh Gross writer for Full Contact Fighter/Sherdog comment on Fox 11. He said in California that mma fights off Indian Reservations are worked fights. He said they are not real fights but are made to look real.
