NEWS: Miguel Torres Cut By The UFC For Rape Van Joke On Twitter

Shit just hit the fan, former UFC champion Miguel Torres has been let go after making a rape joke on twitter. UFC President Dana White informed Sports Illustrated,

“This morning I’m on [Michael] Landsburg’s show, up here in Canada, and he hits me with the quote of what he tweeted. Now there’s no explanation for that. There’s absolutely nothing I could say to make any sense of that. And the fact that he even thinks that’s funny or that’s a joke, it disturbs me. It bothers me. Again, you’re dealing with a guy that’s a smart guy, that owns his own business, that’s been one of the top fighters in the world forever. And I cut him today. He’s no longer with the UFC. It’s being announced right now to you. You’re the only one that knows. Miguel Torres has been cut from the UFC and his career with us now is over.”

The tweet that has cost Miguel his career in the UFC, get this:

“If a rape van was called a surprise van more women wouldn’t mind going for rides in them. Everyone likes surprises.”

Torres quoted: The joke was a reference to a line to an FX show “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” S4 E2 took place largely in a van with tinted windows that the characters repeatedly called a “rape van.”

This is a BS move by the UFC, I hope they reconsider this action. Miguel’s twitter account is one of the most entertaining in the sport.

Dana White explains his “rationale” for the firing. Be warned I think he was HIGH when doing this interview, because his explanation doesn’t make any sense:

dana talks about wanting to be a legit sport. do you see the nfl or nba cutting people like dana does? No.

fine the crap out of them, suspend them, but don't cut them and then make assumptions about them being on drugs. that's why they call the ufc a monopoly. because one guy controls the whole sport at times.

Seems Dana is going to do all he can to look like NFL's Goodell…. What a joke which was a joke on TV. Ok folks get ready for more of this stuff to happen cause Dana will do all he can to make sure he gets no feedback from FOX about anything that goes on in UFC…it's all about the money folks pure and simple

Rashad made a rape joke just a few days ago. A Sandusky child rape joke at that. Why didn't he get cut? Just sayin'.

It shows that he acted like a hypocrite with this situation. He's just opening the door for unions to come in and then you've got lockout's like basketball and football has.

This make Dana White look ridiculous. I agree with Miguel. More women would get in. Come on people do we really need the UFC to be our thought police?

Dana, you should be fired for this piss poor excuse of getting rid of him. Rashad not even suspended or punished for referencing a child rapist???? Dana your an idiot, really no other way to explain it.

The public is pissed at Rashad, not Miguel Torres. Here's what Jim Rome had to say:

"Rashad, you've got to be kidding me. What is that, other than totally insensitive and just… dumb? Guys have run regrettable smack before. David Haye saying that his fight with Audley Harrison was going to be ‘as one-sided as gang rape' immediately comes to mind. But you, my man, might be the new standard bearer. Look, I get that these guys are in hype mode and the blood starts to flow at these pressers. I just don't care. You can't say you're going to do to your opponent what Jerry Sandusky allegedly did to these kids. Not that I haven't done this 100 times already before but memo to all athletes — there's certain things you cannot ever talk junk about. Ever. Keep all references to 9/11 and Hitler out of your mouths and, although I never thought I'd have to say it, you can officially add Jerry Sandusky to that list as well. Look, I work in smack for a living. I put food on my family's table with smack. Smack is the family business, so I know smack and that's some of the worst smack I've ever heard."

I bet Jon Jones could say absolutely anything and not get more than a phone call from Dana.
