Strait from the honeymoon and into the gym, hard hitting Eddie Alvarez has been tapped to fight Nick Diaz for the vacant EliteXC 160 lb. title recently stripped from KJ Noons, on Nov. 8th, according to MMAWeekly.

“I got back from my honeymoon about a week and a half ago and as soon as I got back I was on the horse that Monday….I’ll be fighting Nick Diaz, we’re about 90-something percent positive I’ll be fighting Nick Diaz for the EliteXC title at 160 (pounds).”

“Nick’s a great opponent, he poses a lot of threats. Very good striking, as well as good jiu-jitsu, so he’s been in the game a while, he’s a pure fighter and I like that….He gets a lot of bad rap from a lot of people with his attitude, but deep down he likes to fight, he enjoys to fight and I consider myself the same kind of person. I enjoy to fight, my heart’s in this.”

“I like 160, I feel like at 160 I’m stronger, I’m faster, I’m not as depleted as I am at 155,” he said. “I’m excited, I can’t wait for this to happen.”

Competing in the DREAM lightweight grand prix in Japan, Alvarez defeated Tatsuya Kawajiri to make it to the DREAM LWGP finals, but was unable to compete for the title due to a cut he suffered in the semi-finals.

Both fighters are evenly matched up, giving Alvarez the advantage on the feet and Diaz the advantage on the ground.

I hate how they booted Noons from the title but I think this is going to be a really good matchup.

Oh My God thank you for giving Diaz an opponent that isnt a push over. Diaz is gonna get smashed. Alvarez is too fast and athleticfor Diaz IMO. I think the only way Diaz can win is to lay on his back and try for a submission. The only thing is Diaz acts tough but being good at submissions dont make you tough thats what I hate about the Diaz brothers.I hope he talks shit to Eddie just so I can see eddie et emotional and talk shit after his hand is raised.

I think Alvarez has fought the better competition lately. Unless he gets subbed by Diaz I think he'll win.
