According to the Brazilian publication Tatame, Paulo Filho (14-0) is close to signing a contract with the World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC). The article reports that he is looking to step into the cage as soon at July.

I am making the deal with the WEC organization. I will close three or four bouts with the event, a parallel one of the UFC. I am pretty glad

Paulo Filho is considered to be one of the best middleweights in the world. In fact CageToday has him ranked third in our fighter rankings page, just behind Rich Franklin. Filho is a Black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) and a member of the Brazilian Top Team. Filho has been building his 14-0 record at PRIDE FC for the past three years. I think this guy should be signing with the UFC as a top middleweight contender, not the WEC, but I think Zuffa is trying to get fighters exposure, then move them up to the UFC.

He's a really good fighter. I'm suprised he isn't going straight to the UFC.
