Paulo Filho Moving to LA, Want’s Sonnen Rematch, Possible Move to 205 lbs.

wec 36 filho vs. sonnen

wec 36 filho vs. sonnen

WEC middleweight champion Paulo Filho has “No Excuses” for his loss to Chael Sonnen at last nights WEC 36 event.

“What can I do, it’s sad… The fact is that I have no excuses, he (Sonnen) went there and did his job to neutralize me and that’s what happened, he did the right job and he has all merits… It was good to give me a new spirit”

Filho decides to move to Los Angles to begin training in the US.

(Train) Here will be good, everybody is coming here and that’s because it works. At Brazil we hadn’t a good training camp, and here I believe we’ll have a high level training”

“The loss isn’t good, but that’s good to learn. We need more focus, responsibility, and the weight is a problem… What happened yesterday we’ll forget and start all over again. We’ll train here and get our rematch with Sonnen, and then go to light-heavyweight division” [Tatame]

What he should have said was, "I'm a tool! A chubby, drug crazed, talking-to-people-that-aren't-there, scared, cheating, punk of a tool! I am ashamed of myself and should have had enough respect for the sport to do my job. But instead I am going to pretend that none of this happened and move to another country to escape the geers of small children in my native land. Did I mention that I am a tool?"

One last thing, Paulo; That mustache goes on your upper lip, not above your eyes.

move to MW hell no he is too big muscular I mean and I wouldnt dare tel him to lose muscle and go down to 170. He needs to go to 205 and be able to train and dostrength conditioning and Cardio sucessfully and he obviously cant do that at 185. He is a great BJJ guy but he needs better stand up or he may as well go back to brazil and try for the BJJ championship. Nobody wants to see him fight like a gassed Travis Lutter which is exactly what he did. That is why I love to see striking matches more then ground battles. Most ground battles are boring very rarely do u see a fight at 185 or higher be a great ground war. Most of that shit is done by the lil guys. Chael obviously didnt want to make the same mistake and good for him. Dont let Filho even have a chance with cardio like that.

he looked fat and not that muscular he's got big arm and chest and the rest is fat, if he was in shape he could weigh in at 185 no problem if he had the mental toughness he could get down to 170- although mentally i don't think he could dedicate himself to do it, and remember he is going to the ufc whats going to happen to him there at 205 when he could not beat sonnen who is not that good a fighter he is too short on top of it, he needs to stay at 185 and come in shape or he won't even be a factor in the ufc.

Realistically, there would be very little chance of anybody Filho's size making 170. He is simply too top heavy, has way to large a bone structure and 170 wouldn't be proper for his body type.

Roy is absolutely right…If he was secure mentally, meaning he was able to train properly, there would be no reason for him to miss weight. He is like a slightly bigger version of Thiago Alves, there is no reason he shouldnt make the 185 pound-limit with dedication and a rigorous training regimen. He is simply undisciplined.

He has all the potential in the world. His BJJ is fantastic and he is a tough guy, the problem remains himself. He is his own worst enemy. In order to succeed he will have to get out of this funk and if he is unable to do so, I dont see him being effective in the UFC>

ur right Jordan I was a college wrestler ive seen many guys that size attempt to go to low and they mess up their metabolism, their heart and are constantly dehydrated. If Filho went to 170 he might look like Roli Delgado.

i am not saying paulo could, shit he can't even make 185 but some one his hieght should be able to make 70 if he knew what he was doing and was dedicated, you brought up the perfect name jordon alves fights at 170 and weighs over 198 come fight night and probally walks around at 210 when not in training.

what i am really getting at is paulo is crazy if he thinks he can come in at 205 and make it in the ufc, at that weight he will come in out of shape he already looked fat coming in at 192 and how tall is he 5"8, i am taller than him and weigh 205 and i can get down to 170 if i had to(not over night)

No roy I know what you are saying and I agree the fact of the matter is there are going to be alot of new faces from different promotions coming in all at once and many of them will have a rude awakening. A guy like Filho may lose two in a row and that might be what it takes to get his s#@t together. Sonnen should do alright. I think Jake Shields will be shell shocked after he fights a guy like Fitch or Sanchez. What im trying to say is that alot of these things will lead to many weight class changes. (I wish Featherweight was in the UFC)

zalbag doesnt fitch train with shields?

it doesnt only matter how tall u are it's ur overall body structure. just because u are short doesnt mean u are skinny. u could be way stocky and thick no matter what u do unless u want to lose all of ur muscle. 185 is where filho belongs. he was a monster in pride and not too long ago. he obviously has a lot of demons he needs to overcome. i called him a disgrace on this site yesterday but i shouldnt have and its not right to judge. i was very angry when he didnt make weight but now i only wish him the best. the 185 weight class and his body didnt change. he can make the weight and its the perfect weight for him. its his mind that has changed and i hope even if he never fights again that he can get his life back on track and fix whatever is wrong with him. none of us know whats going on in his life its his first loss and a lot of people are being pretty critical of his first loss. ya it was a pathetic boring loss but we dont know whats going on. dont be so quick to judge ur not wearing his shoes or understand the possible depression/drug issues he's going through.

Shields trains at SF Fairtex and Ceasar Gracies…Shields comes down to AKA in San Jose to train with there(jon fitch) camp a couple days a week before big fights. but they do not exclusively train together the AKA mini camp is like the camp that NFL players who played at MIAMI all go to in the offseason. Honestly Dane I just really cant stand Jake Shields I find him to be pompous, and I really think he is great on the ground but i do not think his stand up will hold up at all in a UFC ww class that is very very strong in stand up.

Filho is going to have to earn back the respect of fans after his lack of respect and performance last night. Right now I don't even want to see him fight again and he doesn't deserve a rematch either.

Sonnon fought like a little bitch trying to point his way to a win. Anyone who saw it wouldn't want to watch any of them fight again. Fuck at least Faber put it on the line when he lost. And he fessed up to his mistakes instead of asking for a rematch.

Fought like a lil bitch? why b/c he didnt go into Filhos guard and risk getting submitted? Filho beat him like that last time. He wanted to play it safe since filho kept flopping to his guard after every exchange. Sure Sonnen should have been more aggresive but not on the ground. He should have tried to KO him but hell what if Filho swept him while Sonnen swung for the fences? Think about it. The fight was boring cuz filho came in unprepared. Also about his height let me remind u roy that Jeff Monson is 5"8 240 and like filho he cant make the lower weight. 170 would be imposible for him. 185 is fine but like BJ he dont want to get his cardio up and cut that much weight thats why he is planning on fighting at 205. Okay if Faber fought Brown again do u think hewould do that crazy shit again? NO b/c it didnt work the fiorst time and just like sonnen he didnt want to make the same mistake this was a grudge match he felt he shoyuld have won the last fight and he couldnt afford to lose another fight and go down 2-0 to filho in wins.Thats the way I see it.

zalbag- thanks i wasnt sure if he trained with him or not. i agree with u shields is an asshole and is going to be in for a rude awakening if he signs with the ufc. he is a big fish in a little pond and will get swallowed by the sharks. that being said even tho i dont liek the guy i could see him definetly being top ten if he gets his striking a little better.

onri- not everyone has a showstopping performance ever fight. like sonnen said it was like dancing with a dance partner who wouldnt dance. filho was on the defensive the entire fight and i think sonnen was being carefull so he didnt get caught witha wild shot or quick sub. fact is thats the biggest win of sonnens career and he snagged it and held on to it

Filho is done. You can't train heart and his just isn't in it.

He said he had no excuses but then says he had a bad camp , the focus wasn't there and of course the weight was a problem. Sounds like a guy trying to justify why he looked so bad. It was just a week ago this guy was saying he was going to take over the MW division once Anderson leaves …. hardy har har

i realy don't think 170 is impossible once again look at alves and his weight, but mostly i was refering to him saying he is going to lhw i think if anything he should go down weight where he could compete rather than go up weight where he will get killed in the ufc, not that he should change weight at all.

ha true.. i like have been saying for a year now paul is over rated..he cant box or throw kicks..all he has is JJ not even a good ground and pound

I agree that he doesn't seem to have that much hear. He quits in the cage. I don't see why he wants to move up since he won't be able to compete on the feet against tall fighters like Sonnen. He looked out of shape which is why he didnt make weight. If he is going to get his career back on track being in the US is a good move for him.
