Shane Carwin: Brock Lesnar’s Pull Out Of UFC 106 A Blessing

Shane Cawin responds to the postponement of his UFC heavyweight title with Brock Lesnar at UFC 106.

Fighting for the UFC belt is my path and honestly Brock coming down with his illness only gives me more time to be in that much better shape. It is a blessing if you want to know the truth. I would have never pulled out of the fight. I would wheel myself to the cage if it was my choice. I know this is my destiny and I don’t need everything to be perfect I just need my opportunity to show the world what I can do and who I am.

So today when my phone rang and it was Kevin Iole from Yahoo sports asking for my comment on Brock pulling out of the fight I was disappointed and in shock. I had just convinced myself to walk through hell to fight this guy and a respected member of the media was asking for a comment. I immediately called my manager who informed me that it was news to him as well but for me to stay calm, don’t talk to anyone and wait for his call. My wife and I were in shock, it was like the opposite of when we got the news that we were fighting for the title. I wanted nothing more then for Kevin to be wrong

30 minutes go by and Jason calls me back to say he was able to reach the UFC matchmaker and the fight was not happening and that Brock had been ill for “6 weeks”. He informed me that all the UFC executives were in the TUF tryouts and we really needed to sit tight until we could hear from them what the next steps were.

As I write this I still do not know what is in store for me in the near future. I have my own training wounds that need to heal, I have teammates preparing for fights and they need my help, and I want to be ready for whatever the UFC brings my way. I am not the star of the show, I really do not have any say in the matter. My job is to be ready when they need me, I will be. I pray that Brock gets better soon and that he and I can put this fight together. The fans want this fight and so do I. So we will just have to wait and see what the UFC has in mind for Team Carwin.

As I said I feel blessed to have the extra time to rehab my injuries and recover from the flu. I think that I am blessed to have an amazing team of people helping me and supporting me that it really doesn’t matter about the twist and turns of life because I know I am on the right path. If Edward can so can I. Who can really complain about your dreams being delayed a bit? I am lucky to be fighting for the best fans in the World, I am lucky to have an amazing family and the best coaches and team mates in the game. [ via Roy]

The pull out of Brock Lesnar from the UFC 106 main event title fight, might just have been what Shane Carwin needed. The undefeated heavyweight was apparently nursing some wounds going into UFC 106. No word yet on the date of the rescheduled fight.

hall, u sound like a retard. if u think that brock didnt deserve the title shot and still doesnt deserve to be a champion then neither does carwin. the ufc is the big leagues and brock has fought the bigger names and the tougher opposition. carwin has just one more fight then brock in the ufc and has fought weak ass gonzaga. that's it.

I'd like to see Carwin and Lesnar fight eventually but I can honestly say that I have no interest in watching a washed up Ortiz versus a dive taking Griffin. After his fight with Silva, I'm starting to lose trust in the Dana White and his "promotion" of some of his top fighters.

Lesner probably screwed up on how and when he took his roids and knew he'd piss dirty so he pulled out.

Hey rhetro, get in the 21st century man, using the term "retard" to dis somebody is ignorant and hurtful to people you are one small twist of fate from being one of.

Hall is kind of right. Lesnar really didn't deserve the title shot because all he did was beat Heath Herring, BUT he does have it and has successfully defended it, making him the champ. I don't like Lesnar either and we can all bitch about it, but when it comes down to it, he still is champ.

Its hard to be ready for a fight when you have been sick for over 3wks with 3wks left till fight day…its not as easy as you think to train when you have an upper respitory infection etc.. your obviously not an athlete or else you would understand. When you work out you break down your immune system and if your sick that just gives you the chance to get even sicker…best thing to do is to stop training and relax your body and get better before training again. This fight is happeneing at UFC 108 Jan. 2nd so i do not know why eveyone keeps saying if he gets his shot…its only postponed and i guess if this was Carwin who pulled out due to illness you would all say nasty things about him to huh??? yeah right you would all probably praise the man for being wise enough to not fight when he isnt 100% and to wait till he gets better…your all a bunch of hippocrits it doesnt matter if you like the man or not its a matter of the situation at hand, i wouldnt want to watch a fight where one fighter isnt 100%…remember the Mir vs Nog fight…come on that was a joke and stupid on Nog's part for still fighting when he wasnt 100%.

hey, brock(if this is really you! yeah right!!) why do you act like a 2 year old in the public eye? you won't get any respect in this sport acting like that! besides, i'd back out too, if i had your jiu jitsu game!!

Of course it's me! Why, you guys don't use your real names on here?

I am who I am. I am not out to get respect from you. I get respect by doing what I get paid to do…and that's beat up people.

I'm learning jiu jitsu. Yes, I am not a black belt, but I keep improving my overall fighting skills with every match, and that's what's important.

lesnar, i don't care how popular you become, your 3 &1. you should not have got title shot! your record shows it! go back to the wwe! thats right you almost broke your neck trin' to be a champ there! i remember that back flip! you landed on your head! didn't make you any smarter!!!!!!!!

I don't think that article was very good Tim. It didn't really prove anything for anyone's arguement. And it was opinionated. If he was sick he should have stayed home instead of going to the game. And if I have an upper respiratory infection, I can't blow air out. But I actually do think he was sick. He likes to fight, I'm not sure what he would be scared of.
