Jay “The Thoroughbred” Hieron returns to the Octagon. It has been confirmed last Wednesday that Hieron is expected to replace injured Josh Koscheck to fight against Jake Ellenberger at the UFC 151 for a co-main event. MMAJunkie.com was the first to report this match-up.

UFC 151 takes place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. It is headlined by a light heavyweight title defense by Jon Jones against Dan Henderson a former Strikeforce champion. “The Thoroughbred” has won 11 fights of his last 12; he has joined the Bellator Fighting Championships in 2011. He has defeated extraordinary fighters Anthony Lapsley, Brent Weedman and Rick Hawn to capture the welterweight tournament crown at Season 4. The fighter has suffered so much in capturing the title shot but as the Xtreme Couture rep suffered a split decision defeat against Ben Asken last October.

Hieron most recently competed for Legacy Fighting Championship after his stint at Bellator. Early in his career at Legacy 12, he earned a technical submission victory over Romario Maoel da Silva last July 13.

Jay “The Thoroughbred” Hieron has 23 wins, 5 losses and 0 draws in his career. After his victory over Romario Manoel da Silva inn LFC 12, he suffered a defeat against Ben Askren at the Bellator Fighting Championships 56 in October 2011 via split decision. He has 10 consecutive wins before his loss to Askren defeating impressive fighters like Liles, Heleno, Miller, Kennedy, High and more.

His opponent Jake Ellenberger is a worthy match; “The Juggernaut” has 27 wins and only 6 losses in his career. However, his last victory was a loss over Martin Kampmann at the UFC – The Ultimate Fighter 15 Finale in June via technical knockout. Before this loss against Kampmann, he has 6 consecutive wins defeating fighters like Kampmann, Sanchez, Shields, Pierson, Rocha, Howard and Pyle.

To note, Ellenberger is nine years younger than Hieron and many think that this may be his advantage over “The Thoroughbred”.  Meanwhile, Josh Kocheck has suffered a bulging disc in his back and will not be able to compete and train for his future scheduled fights. This was announced during Tuesday’s episode of “UFC Tonight” on Fuel TV. Hieron was announced as a replacement shortly after UFC President Dana White confirmed of Kocheck’s injury. “KOS” was defeated by Johny Hendricks at the UFC on Fox 3 – Diaz versus Miller.
