This is gonna be a very intriguing match. If shogun is in tip top shape Lyoto will have his hands full. Shogun has an arsenal of leg kicks and he is a brilliant striker. But can he solve the myth of Machida. Lyoto is master of timing and shogun is very quick and creative also. The edge goes to machida

I'll be rooting for Shogun!
September 7, 2009 at 7:06 am
Props to Shogun on the much improved English.
September 7, 2009 at 9:31 am
This is a tough one to call it's pretty even , but i think that shogun is a better all around fighter than Lyoto . shoguns ground game is one of the best and has won by Submittion in many occasions , that being said it's fair to say that we really have'nt seen Lyoto's ground game and do not know how well he can do in this position. on the other hand if shogun keeps it standing up it's more likely to see Lyoto counter attacking and using his elusiveness to control the fight. hope Shogun takes it.
September 7, 2009 at 9:41 am
i think this whole fight ill depend on if shogun can close the distance and take this fight to the ground. i think lyotos jsut to good and awkward on the feet. shogun took down coleman and chuck inn his last two fights tho so i think this is a very interesting matchuop aswell i hope he takes it. i still have a sour taste in my mouth when forest broke his will in his first fight in the octagon. i hope he takes the title.

Here are the odds for the Machida vs Shogun fight.
This was from a few weeks ago. I'm sure they have lowered since then but I'm sure Machida is still a huge favorite.
September 7, 2009 at 10:01 am
should be a great fight and i believe machida has a good ground game not the best but good
September 7, 2009 at 10:28 am
I hope Shogun wins by KO.
Think Machida will come away with the victory though.
September 7, 2009 at 11:53 am
Machida trained in Sumo at the age of 12 he is used to pusing around 400lb men. Machida has amazing wrestling and awesome takedown defense all combined with slick Aikido and judo moves and superb technique.
machida controlled 2 well decorated wrestlers he manhandled Tito and he was pushing and shoving around rashad who was an all state college wrestler. Is shogun really a threat in the grappling department. I dont think so.
September 7, 2009 at 11:58 am
shoguns a threat to anyone if he connects or gets a dominant position on the ground. Lyotot is the favorite tho you're right. but i dont think this will be as easy for lyoto as a lot of people think.
September 7, 2009 at 12:10 pm
well i got to give Machida the edge in Conditioning and the mental side
September 7, 2009 at 12:31 pm
I personally don't think there in anyone on the planet besides maybe Anderson Silva that can beat Machida right now at 205. He really impressed me with his win over Rashad. I figured Rashad would win it with his wrestling and his KO power. He wasn't even in Machida's league. Machida takes the fight were he wants it to go. No one has even put Machida in danger yet. I think this fight will end really early. KO in the second Machida gets the Win.
September 7, 2009 at 12:59 pm
i predicted rashad would lose to machida but im not so sure about shogun i think he is a much more interesting matchup. i agree jay i would give lyoto the conditioning edge too because we havent ever seen him get tired but i dont think shoguns conditioning will be bad either. he said his knee is finally abck to 100 percent and is giving him no problems and when he was 100 percent he never gassed.
September 7, 2009 at 2:16 pm
i think this is goin to be a good fight
September 7, 2009 at 3:00 pm
Can not wait for this fight! I'm hoping Shogun takes it even tho i'm a machida fan….it's just i'm a bigger anderson silva, and want to see Shogun vs. Silva for the LHW title in April of 09
September 7, 2009 at 3:14 pm
Machida is for real. he will out smart Shogun and Shogun will break. Machida is pretty much great at every aspect of MMA. Remember He is a BJJ Black belt i wouldnt be surprised if he submits shogun
September 7, 2009 at 11:21 pm
Shogun will be a tough test for Machida, but I do think Machida will find a way to win.
September 8, 2009 at 1:41 am
i am going with shogun, but its a tough one and machida deserves to be favored.
shogun of Harlem
September 8, 2009 at 7:23 am
this is going to be a great fight. I really dont know who is going to win this one.
September 9, 2009 at 2:25 pm
I dont know what evrybody in here is talking about, if shogun got his cardio back he will win by knockout, if he is not 100% then he wins by unanimous D, he beat the man who beat machida in the tatame abu dhabi tournament everybody forgets Ricardo arona?? sure that was a wrestling and submission form tournament but arona physically dominated machida,, oh and about nobody putting machida in danger of losing what about penn when they fought in that fight B.J .Penn landed heavy shots but lacked the power to ko a lightheavy…
September 9, 2009 at 3:34 pm
no way machida loses to shogun. shogun is really good but machida is a step ahead. he won't get submitted and on his feed machida is going to out class shogun.
September 9, 2009 at 4:33 pm
a lot of people who beat arona in mma would lose to him in abu dhabi its two entirely different things
September 9, 2009 at 8:11 pm
When you have 2 fighters this good either of them can win. Nobody is 100% guaranteed a win. Shogun could high kick him and ko him and vice versa. Ill admit Shgun isnt the same with the rules in the ufc and such as I have said in the past when he was #1 ranked. UFC protects the fighters more. Less of an actual fight so Machida has the advantage especially with how he has looked in his last 2 fights. But all it takes is 1 mistake and or bad night and it can all change.
September 9, 2009 at 8:15 pm
Also when forrest beat shogun shogun was hurt still. He has had surgery and is now claiming to be back. But his cardio was a problem in the fight more than forrest breaking his will. The knee is good and he can train hard again.
September 9, 2009 at 11:57 pm
Im not saying that because Arona beat Machida and Shogun beat arona that the outcome will be be SHOGUN OVER MACHIDA, nope Im saying look at the physical domination arona displayed showing weakness in machidas grappling, when is the last time you saw tito ortiz almost lock in a triangle choke or submit anybody and tito is iight as far as BJJ now, now Shogun loves to clinch an knee then takedown, Shogun by knockout……….
September 10, 2009 at 11:57 pm
FATAL: When did Arona ever fight Machida at Abu Dhabi? As far as I know, Machida has never even competed at the grappling event. As far as Tito Ortiz "almost" locking in a sub, did you miss the high level escape that Machida pulled off? He is by no means a novice on the ground. His wrestling is probably some of the best in the UFC with his Sumo background. I don't see Shogun getting on top which would be the only position Machida might be in danger. This is definitely Machida's fight.
September 11, 2009 at 3:49 am
OH WELL I guess the riders of the machida bandwagon are gonna fall off hard, Yea rashad is good, and yea Thiago is o.k himself, look everybody thinks lyoto just cause he trains with anderson silva damn so many forget the chute boxe days when shogun was barely coming up learning from wanderlie and anderson an the others…SHOGUN HAS THE INGREDIENTS TO DESTROY MSCHIDA WARRRRRRRRRR SHOGUNNNNNN!!!!!!!!
