Big news if you are a big fan of the UFC’s heavyweight division. Brock Lensar will defend his title against undefeated Shane Carwin at UFC 106 on Nov. 21 from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

Shane Carwin is fighting Brock Lesnar in a UFC heavyweight title battle at UFC 106, Fighters Only has been able to confirm.

Fighters Only has since been able to contact a well-placed source who has confirmed that the bout is “definitely” on.

The source also confirmed that Carwin has been pulled from a scheduled fight with Cain Velasquez at UFC 104.

Carwin, a NCAA division II champion wrestler, was to face Cain Velasquez at UFC 104, but instead will take on Lesnar and the winner will face Velasquez at a later date.

i was hoping that carwin would have to fight c. velasquez and lose to him after talkin crap to brock and not focusing on his next fight. now he is fighting brock and brock is gunna be able to lay on top of him and bully him around and beat him up.

i think this fight is setup so brock can talk more shit and people can still hate him.

but when brock destroys him everyone is gunna wonder who can take brock.

awesome. get injured and can't fight a top contender? whatever, we'll just let you fight for the title when you're better. this can start a bad precedent of contenders faking injuries in the MMA world. Hopefully not, but just sayin.

Either way, i hope Carwin beats Lesnar, but am not expecting it.

    Well…. I hope that Carwin smashes Brock… I am inerested to see this!… On a side point I think the UFC needs to add a weight classes between LHW and HW, something like;

    LHW up to 205

    HW up to 235

and Super HW up to 265

That would even things up and stopped monsters like Brock lying on top of skilled (much smaller fighters)

I think Carwin will walk throw Brock..i think carwin would have knock out cain in the First round..Brock vs Carwin will probley go 2 or 3 rounds..It will be a good fight and the Winner should be number 1 Heavy weight fighter..

i agree with the weight changes dan. i don't know if they will ever do it thought and this fight it won't matter cause these are too big hw's. if they stay standing i think carwin will knock him out but if lesnar can get it to the ground quick i don't know if carwin will ever get him off of him.

lesnar has the edge in wrestling for sure because there is a big difference between division 1 and division 2 wrestling. lesnar also has the size advantage. carwin came in at like 256 or something around there which means thats what he weighs without cutting. lesnar however cuts from around 280 to make 265. Carwin has the bigger hands and i think he has more power in his punches. who has the better chin is up in the air because carwin seemed like he was almost done when Gonzaga rocked him but he showed great recovery and brock has yet to be truely rocked even taking mir's knee. this should be a sick fight and was the one fight ive been wanting to see for a long time. i still think brock will most likely win but with carwins bombs he could win any fight.

well said dane i think both there chins have looked abit suspect i think if it stays standing it wont last long and i wonder if carwin will go for the takedown bcos he is well capeable of taking brock down id like to see how brock fights off his back if carwin lets loose some of that vicious gnp and the same if brock gets on top. lets just hope the cage dont fall apart with them 2 bulls charging around lol

This will rock! I don't think it matters who fought brock next(cain or carwin) if Carwin can't beat brock = moot point. If he can then it creates even more excitement to the carwin vs velasquez fight. If it ends up Brock vs Velasquez then even better. And if Velasquez and carwin lose their next fights each….situation even more interesting as to who can beat the albino gorilla.

i think this will be brock's first real true test. we all knew mir had poor takedown defense. couture is up in his ages. herrin g was just no match with lesnar. carwin brings the wrestling, power, and size to finally match brock. plus, carwin brings class and entertainment. none of carwin's fights have lasted past 1:30 minutes into the 1st round. brock, be prepared. i can't wait for the staredown.

Even more interesting is gonna be Brock's post fight antics(win or lose). I don't think it has paid off, though, for anyone who has S#@t-talked Brock before a fight with him. See Heath Herring :"I've fought bigger and stronger guys. This ain't my first rodeo." And also Frank Mir ": He doesn't even hit hard, it's more annoying like when your little sister hops on your back." Randy was the only guy to respect him and Brock showed that respect in return. Anyone else would've handled that much differently? Not I. Talk-s#@t- get hit!

This is great News….i think this will also be a true test for lesnar as Carwin is a bid dude but not as big as lesnar by any means, he is around 260 or so and seems to be in good shape but again not as good as lesnar is. The wrestling aspect lesnar has the edge overall but it should be equal although i can say being a Div 1 champ means more than being a Div 2 champ. We also have not seen Carwin tested wrestling wise or strength wise either and this will definetly be a test for both fighters overall.

The overall aspect is this with every fight Lesnar gets better and better and with each fight he shows a much more improved lesnar and a faster and stronger and more dominant lesnar. You have to take that into consideration when he will be facing a man 260 who is 3 years older, doesnt have anywhere near the athletic ability of Lesnar himself nor the speed. Carwin brings a power that Lesnar hasnt seen before and it will be intersting to see how he takes a power punch although i can say that taking two kneess to the head and not really being hurt should say something about lesnar ability to take a hit.

The bottom line is going to be what massive freak wants it more the more athletic and in my opinion stronger Lesnar or the hunchback of power Carwin. (yes carwin fights hunchback style, watch all his fights hesits back and rolls his shoulders forward and leans his head in like a hunchback. Cant wait for this fight as this will be a toss up fight but i will pulling for Lesnar of course.

I think Carwin is gonna hurt Brock. And also Brock will get tested truly in this fight. Kepp in mind though Gonzaga rocked Carwin pretty bad too. But carwin kept his composure and pulled it out. Brock can also rock carwin. Brock has huge reach also. the question is Can carwin deal with the explosiveness and strength of Brock.

  17. Tim

    August 20, 2009 at 8:45 am

I dont think he can but i think in this fight its going to be who hits who first and who can keep who down and ground and pound. It will be intersting to see how brock does if he is on his back. Remember Heath herring is a big dude at 255 and he couldnt do shit against brock although take into consideration he didnt have wrestling ability but still the point is a man of that size couldnt get away from brock and the same with Mir he couldnt get up either.

    August 20, 2009 at 8:51 am

I am thinking this will be a stand up war for as long as Lesnar see's fit and then he will take Carwin Down and ground and pound him into submission. At least thats my prediction. i know this for sure it will be intersting either way. This is going to be one hell of a fight.

    August 20, 2009 at 8:55 am

That is the question, Jay. But, I think the answer is NO. And I agree, Brock can rock or even KO Carwin because Brock does have big power in those lunchboxes and I think Carwin's chin is a little suspect. I thought he was about out in that Gonzaga fight. On the contrary, Brock's chin is also very suspect. He's never been hit really hard on in the face. So who knows??? But, I ulimately believe Brock will be able to get the takedown against Carwin and probably win by ground n pound. It's a fight though and if Carwin can land a bomb on him, he could put Brock asleep.

i think lesnar will try to take it down as quick as possible, his stand up does not look good yet. he has all the power he needs but not alot of skill carwin is the much better boxer and with either guy it will be first one to land and the fight is probally over no need for lesnar to give carwin that chance just take him down where you know your better.

    Tim….

    Carwin is

A, Taller that Brock (1 inch)

B, more ripped than Brock (look at Carwin's chest, hes got abs!)

C, 285lbs pre weigh in, as i recall.

  22. derek

    August 20, 2009 at 9:44 am

mike, you got it the other way around.

    A. There was a recent article put out on Sherdog that questioned Carwin's true height. Carwin is actually closer to 6"1, not the 6"4 he is billed at.

    B. Carwin may be more ripped, but Brock has more strength and has more muscle mass. See C.

    C. Brock has to CUT to get to 265. Carwin comes in at 262-265 naturally.

Despite these advantages, I choose Carwin to win.

    August 20, 2009 at 9:53 am

So if that weight is accurate, does that mean he is heavier than brock? I want to say Carwin for this fight because I just feel like he really is a mixed martial artist, where Brock is still trying to fine-tune his standup and transition skills. You're all right though, this will be interesting and a great test for both men.

    August 20, 2009 at 9:57 am

Not to mention Mike, ripped doesn't necessarily mean anything. Brock might have better cardio regardless of how ripped he is. Unfortunately we haven't seen any of Carwin's fights last long enough to see how his cardio is.

Prediction: Does anyone else think that if Kimbo makes it into the UFC he will have a title shot within 5 fights? Cuz I think so, seeing how the UFC has been going lately.

  25. roy

    August 20, 2009 at 10:07 am

i know carwin was fighting at 280+ before coming to the ufc. he has trimmed down so he could fight at hw in the ufc i don't think he has to drop weight anymore just train but probally walks around at 280 when not training.

  26. Tim

    August 21, 2009 at 12:53 am

Carwin, is naturally 265 and doesnt really cut weight…while i have seen Carwin Training videos i hate to say it but when it comes to training and conditioning Lesnar has everyone beat by far…his training and intensity levels he trains at are fucking insane and beyond what anyone else can handle or does. Brocks Conditioning isnt a factor and lesnar is definetly stronger and has more muscle than Carwin…just wait for the wiegh ins or go see some pics and measure them up and you will see how much of a true difference there really is…carwin may be 265 and brock will be 265 at fight time and both are around 6'3 or something but bonemass and muscle mass wise lesnar makes Carwin look small if you can understand that trust me go look at some pics of both…lesnar much much wider than carwin and honestly the down fall to carwin is he trains and works a full time job while all Lesnar does is TRAIN ALL DAY LONG, a man with that athletic ability and skill set like that will be pretty hard to beat if all they focus on is TRAINING. With that said i think it will be a true test as i am not discounting Carwin by any means the man brings his hunchback power with him. I think Carwins hunchback style of fighting will be his downfall in this fight as Lesnar has a huge reach and can use carwins tendancy to lean his face into punches exactly how Gonzaga hit him and rocked him but imagine lesnar punches hitting Carwin intead of Gonzaga….yeah that wont be pretty.

Either way i hope for a great fight but pulling for brock of course.

I heard Kimbo got KTFO but who knows….with that said he might still be in the UFC after but i doubt he will ever get a title shot as he would have to win those 5 fights and i just dont see him doing this against the talent in the UFC HWGHT div that has risen up.

the problem with the weight class changes…THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH FIGHTERS ABOVE 235 ONLY A HANDFULL AND IS A FIGHTERS SUPPOSE TO JUST KEEP FIGHTING EACHOTHER??? I MEAN HOW MANY TIMES DO YOU WANT TO SEE LESNAR VS MIR OR CARWIN VS GONZAGA AFTER THE 3RD FIGHT IT WILL GET BORING AND NO ONE WILL CARE TO WATCH CAUSE IT WILL ALWAYS BE THE SAME FIGHTERS FIGHTING EACHOTHER. WHILE IN THE CURRENT CLASSES THERE ARE PLENTY OF HWGHTS TO CHOOSE FROM 220 TO 265, AT LEAST 50 FOR SURE…SEE THE DIFFRENCE AND THE REASON WHY THIS WILL NEVER HAPPEN IN THE UFC…I KNOW THEY HAVE SUPER HWGHT CLASSES ELSEWHERE BUT ARENT THEY LIKE 265 TO NO LIMIT OR SOMETHING…

i definately dont think that carwins standup game is better than brocks. brock has fought far more accomplished fighters than carwin. and all those fighters arent slouches in their stricking abilities. so dont forget that brock has knocked down everyone he's fought with his stand up. and if u saw ufc 100… he's got some brutal leg kicks in the mix now. the only way i can see carwin having a chance is if he takes brock down and can stay on top of that bull with some gnp. but even then i think that brock will be able to defend against that. and its not like he has to worry about real bjj skills against carwin. with brocks fight agains mir…i believe that brock trained some intense bjj defense and is capable of defending anything carwin throws at him on the ground.

and when brock is on the offense he isnt gunna finish him right away. he's gunna bully him around and beat him up plenty for talkin crap and make him wish he didnt skip over cain velasquez.
