No way UFC is going to convince me that Diaz can win this fight. How does he get a shot at GSP. There are a bunch of people in that division who could beat Diaz: Jon Fitch, Koscheck, Jake Shields, BJ Penn. It will be funny to see Diaz get destroyed. Would have liked to see GSP go to Middleweight or fight Jon Fitch.

Hell yea bad day at work but its good to come home to this news. I have been wanting to see Diaz woop GSPs ass for a while now. I think Diaz has a chance. We'll see! Aldo Raine you might get disapointed.

If Diaz can find a way to keep it standing I think he has a good chance. But if he can't stuff the takedown it would take a pretty lucky submission to win him the fight.

All of you are crazy besides Aldo. Diaz has no chance in hell. GSP is gonna run right through him jus like everyone else. Diaz is garbage and doesn't even deserve this fight. GSP needs to bump up a weight class, destroy everyone there and then bring on the Spider so GSP can put him down too. I'm out! Go GSP!!!!!!!!!!!

i am jumping off the gsp bandwagon. This fuckin guy headlines the biggest mma event in history in his home country of canada and still refuses to wear a canadian flag on his shorts……. but he aint got a problem puttin that quebec emblem on em and yes i am canadian…… a true canadian!!!!!

lmao. All of you retards keep counting GSP out. Why in the hell would you think Diaz can actually win this fight?

Shields vs GSP was a boring ass match, but GSP came out the winner.

I expect the same with GSP vs Diaz. zzz …And with GSP winning again too.

Another boring gsp fight. But ever since the Dan hardy fight he's just boring. Diaz is way over hyped. There's probably 5 better or just as good welterweight fights in the ufc. He almost got taking out by Daley and he's a one trick pony. It's just not as interesting as people are making it. We wanna see gsp vs silva. Duh

GSP has been boaring since long before the Dan Hardy fight I'd say somewhere around his first fight with Koscheck he debuted his lay and prey technique. He hasn't finished anyone in 6 or 7 straight fights pretty sure his last fight not to go to decision was against Penn. Pretty sure it was "Grease-Gate" and it still went 4 rounds. Don't think Diaz has any real chance in this fight. Everyone has a punchers chance but they're really isn't anyone left at 170 for GSP. But if he doesn't finish this fight with Diaz in exciting fashion I don't think we'll ever get to see GSP vs Silva

when will people learn the ufc isnt about finishing fights, its about winniong them. boring or not gsp has dominated all his fights since forever. that being said i can see diaz easily winning. did anyone watch the shields fight. gsp's face was looking like hamburger and diaz is a way better striker than shields. any mma fan should be excited about this fight, not only cuz of the match up but the fact that we're getting ufc vs strikeforce fights already. and dont hold your breath on gsp vs silva, if it was gonna happen it probably woulda happened by now.

If you guys don't want "boring" fights, why are you even MMA fans? Shouldn't you watch boxing?

"But if he doesn’t finish this fight with Diaz in exciting fashion"

Saying ish like that makes me think you're watching the wrong sport.

GSP is comfortable on top of the UFC mountain, I don't see him changing his fighting style anytime soon.

That said, I'm pulling for Nick and the 209.

i don't really know how good nick diaz' wrestling is. if he can't stuff a shot then this is going to be a long boring fight. gsp hasn't been a finisher since he got knocked out by sera. he's afraid of trading and putting himself in bad situations to finish fights. if he wasn't so unbelievably athletic and fought guys like hardy and alves who can't stuff a shot, then he probably wouldn't have the title right now.

All you flop holes out there hateing on Diaz are about to be fooled! Diaz wins by KO!

Diaz has a VERY good chance of beating GSP and I think he may just be the guy to do it. Nicole no disrespect but making the comment….."If you don't like boring fights then watch boxing" has become a bit cliche in my opinion. You get boring fights in both sports and if someone doesn't like GSP style that doesn't mean they are watching the wrong sport. Put your Fandomoniuim aside for GSP and try not to make ignorant comments. Doesn't make you look very smart.

diaz is a very hard guy to keep on the ground.. when taken down he tends to roll alot and then get back up…like gsp he is a cardio machine… do all the diaz haters even know when the last time someone finished diaz is?? i do, it was jeremy jackson at a very early point of his career… diaz losses have all been by decision and i dont count the first noons fight because that was a doctor stoppage and by no means was diaz out of that fight… he is an extremely tough dude who i think has the package to defeat gsp… i think it will be an interesting fight but i have a feeling that diaz is gonna wreck gsp… only time will tell

this will be the start of at least a 3 fight losing streak for diaz. I mean c'mon their are at least 5 guys in the ufc right now in that weight class that are better then diaz not counting gsp.

other derek, would you rather see gsp fight all the people he dominated again or diaz? i dont understand why everyone wants to see him fight fitch.. i saw the gsp fitch fight and while i will say fitch is a tough dude, gsp kicked the living shit out of him.. if you want it to go that route then why dont they just go ahead and have gsp/hughes #4.. it is true that diaz hasnt faced the top competition in the world recently, but he has decimated everyone strikeforce put in his path and they werent exactly a bunch of no name losers(smith, shamrock, noons, cyborg, daley, zaromskis, etc..) diaz has evolved as a fighter since leaving the ufc and lets just get real- have you ever seen a boring nick diaz fight? i havent… as for gsp vs silva- anderson silva would squash gsp.. i have to say im with Truth Hurts and would like to see who you really think is better and back it up with some actual input…

TruthHurts – Apparently you don't not know me, nor have you ever read any of my comments on here, because you would know that I am in NO WAY on anyone's jock. Yes, I am a fan of GSP's, but that was not the point. Cliche or not, it is the truth that people find the wrestling aspect of MMA "boring." Unless someone is being knocked out or is tapping out via some fantastical sub, then casual fans call it "boring." I would say the same about ANY fighter, not just GSP, that the point is to win fights and to protect yourself. If that's "boring," so be it.

I also can't stand commenters who think they absolutely know everything.

no i would love to see gsp beat the fuck out of that cocky sob…. fitch kos penn condit fuck sanchez would whoop that ass again!

"it is true that diaz hasnt faced the top competition in the world recently, but he has decimated everyone strikeforce put in his path and they werent exactly a bunch of no name losers(smith, shamrock, noons, cyborg, daley, zaromskis, etc..)"

Daley was the only somewhat decent fighter listed here, and he sent Diaz to the floor, face first. Facts are facts, no matter how you look at them. And the fact is Nick Diaz is the underdog in this fight, with good reason.

@dude, i agree w/some of your post, but I don't think GSP's face was exactly "hamburger" in that fight. It did get bloodied, but if you couldn't see out of one of your eyes in a fight, I imagine you'd get hit in the face too. I also don't think Nick can "easily" win this fight. Oh, I definitely think he has a shot, but I don't think it'll be easy by any means.

your forgeting that Diaz stiking is way better than shields. He throws relentless punches in bunches and he doesnt get tired. His BJJ is better than GSP. But I think GSP will play that lay and pray game and use his athletism to take down diaz over and over

  26. Monster

    June 3, 2011 at 3:27 pm

I am excited about this fight and I am not 100% confident that Diaz or anyone else at 170 can beat GSP but Diaz has as good of a shot as Koz, Fitch, Penn, or Alves. Besides, as some of you said, why would we want to see GSP fight one of these recycles guys again- I don't, at least not now because none deserve it.

    - GSP just beat Kos

    - Fitch and Penn just tied (both lost to GSP before) meaning that their are equally good but not neither rose higher in the division after tying

    - Thiago Alves just lost to Rick Story

    - Carlos Condit has lookd good but he has not even fought, not to mention beat any of these gate keepers. Before he gets GSP, he has to at least beat one of the guys mentioned on this list

    - Diego has two wins in a row but that was after two losses in row

Like him or hate him, Diaz is the best choice as the next opponent for GSP…and I don't think MMA fans will be dissappointed by this fight.

i agree with everything you said, except for probally be disappointed in the fight.

diaz is a ranked ww and one he has not beaten yet so its good for gsp. you can't always fight the number one or two contenders if it is the same guys.

i think diaz has a chance but it will probally be another boring gsp fight. i am excited for it and it should happen but we will probally be let down in the fight itself.

yes daley did drop diaz with a punch but diaz also recovered and got back up to take daley out.. i dont think gsp has nearly the chin that diaz has or the toughness.. gsp probably wouldnt have gotten back up from that punch…

I honestly think GSP started to fight safe after he got knocked out by Matt Serra. His takedowns are exciting but he just doesn't seem to have that killer instinct anymore. Diaz will get taken down no doubt about that. But what if he scares GSP with a submission. I really think GSP would not shoot in nearly as much if Diaz can threaten him with a submission in the fight. On the standup end, I couldnt tell you who I would favor. Diaz never looks sharp but he always seems to hurt his opponent.

Again with the boring GSP fight talk, the guy dominates his opponents every time. takes them down at will, picks them apart on his feet. GSP damn near took Hardy's arm off and Hardy didnt tap. He fought Shields with one eye for Christs sake. I think its funny how people who are not and probably will never, compete on a level anywhere near the WW UFC CHAMP have the balls to critic his ability. Forget about fighting I wonder how many if any of you could even train at the level GSP does. Or any UFC fighter for that matter. Anyone who thinks its boring should try to walk in any UFC fighters shoes for a minute and see how long they last. When a guy can dominate a credentialed wrestler at wrestling thats pretty fucking amzing to me. I think Diaz is a awesome athlete and fighter but GSP will again dominate. AND ALL YOU HATERS CAN SAVE YOUR NUT HUGGING COMENTS BECAUSE I DONT GIVE A FUCK WHAT YOU THINK, just sharing my opinion as a person who trains in MMA and loves the sport, isn't that what these comment sections are for anymore? Or is it just so people lacking in talent and character can call each other names?
