UFC 67 Recap

ufc 67 recap weigh-in

Patrick Cote Vs. Scott Smith

Was one of the slower fights of the card. Glad to see Cote get his first win in the UFC.

Quinton Jackson Vs. Marvin Eastman

This was a decent win for Quinton Jackson. I expected him to be more dominant, but a win is a win. You know if he fights Liddell, the fight is going to be a stand up war.

Mirko Cro Cop Vs. Eddie Sanchez

With the hype surrounding Cro Cop and the lack of enthusiasm in the current Heavyweight division, this was a fight the UFC could not afford to have him lose. For a while beforehand, I started to doubt my decision that Cro Cop would dominate this fight. Sanchez sounded pretty confident about his chance to win. Some people said the fight ended too early, but Mirko Cro Cop walked through Sanchez. If the fight wasn’t stopped there, it would have been stopped 10 seconds later. Good showing for Cro Cop, a new addition that will bring some much needed excitement to the UFC Heavyweight division.

Anderson Silva Vs. Travis Lutter

Travis Lutter showed Silva that he could be taken down. He just forgot about Silva’s two little friends…left elbow and right elbow. On his back, Silva showed skill in surving takedowns, difficult positions, and submission attempts, escaping back to his feet. Although he won the first round, Lutter looked a little weak and dehydrated from cutting weight (that whole 1/2 lb.). Now what, who’s next for Silva? Who do you think has the best chance right now to beat Silva?

I think Lutter did a good job executing his game plan in his weakened state. Silva was timid for some reason, maybe looking for a knee counter to his shoots.

Cote looks a lot better and did anyone see Griffin's leg in that knee bar? Some people are blessed with joints that can hyperextend without too much damage.

I think Mike Swick should get a shot.

I still think Franklin has a shot. He was very timid the last time, from the start…fighting flatfooted and not aggressive. If he can find a way to not fear Silva, he'd definitely got a shot.

Other than that MacDonald is very good too but he may need more polishing.

Silva's the real deal. He'll be champ for a while.

Swick wouldn't last one round with Silva.
