During Scream 2007 on SpikeTv, Dana White made it official. Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell will face “The Axe Murderer” Wanderlei Silva at UFC 79: Nemesis on December 29. The annual New Years Eve show is living up to its reputation, being the tuffest show of the year. Also on the card, The Ultimate Fighter coaches Matt Hughes and Matt Serra will fight for the UFC Welterweight championship belt.

If your a regular reader of CageToday or any other MMA news site, this news broke weeks ago. Dana White likes to deny till the last possible moment, because I think he has a thing for podiums, they make him feel powerful.

hahaha…good point "Podiums make him feel powerful." Dana is way too into himself in my opinion.

Hello…I choose Chuck over Wandi…ask me why???? I think this is bad for Wandi because he is an agressive fighter. Chuck will counter punch him to a victory.

I would take wanderlei over chuck anyday because he has a speed advantage and a major cardio advantage. And i just think he is gonna catch chuck and have the ref stop it. Chucks chin was never really tested b4 the rampage fight and now that it got hit its like a glass vase. If u say what jardine did to chuck which was pick him apart then u will understand what im sayin.Chuck will lose this fight and consider retirement.

I almost feel that his fight is set up so that Wanderlei will win. Rampage wants the re-rematch so bad because he got embarrassed twice by him, the last time he got knocked out and fell out of the ring….Liddell will come in being a small underdog and will rise to the occassion like he always does for HUGE fights. Wanderlei does not have a cardio advantage, if you watch his fights, you can see that he starts to stand flat footed and just walks toward opponents, Liddell will circle him and come from weird angles. Finally the Chuck of old will be back. He will shock the world with a KO of Silva. I feel bad for whoever loses though, because there will be so much talk of retirement. HOWEVER, even if Chuck loses and does in fact retire, he will fight again in like a year, no doubt about it. The light heavyweight division is the best…

Who will fight Anderson Silva??? If Henderson drops down, he might start off in the UFC 0 for 2, bad news. Will Tito ever fight again? Where has Arlovski been hiding? And can we see BJ Penn fight for at least an interim lightweight belt? He would still beat a roided up sean sherk.

I want Henderson vs Silva too but I don't think it will happen because Henderson wants to be a LHW. The UFC will get some middleweights to contend like Filho and the loser of Rashad/Bisping will consider dropping down.

Arlovski has only one fight left on his contract and Dana is trying to lowball because of his last fight. Arlovski is holding out in a way. Apparently he is a regular bodyguard for the Jerry Springer show. But the guy is a celeb in Chicago and he's having fun so I don't think he is dying to get back in the ring right now.

all very valid points. i think this one can go either way. wanerlai is very agressive and can lose to chucks counter punches. but wanderlai is a smart fighter and chuck can be very predictable. rampage and jardine were both smart enought to see that. rampage wouldn't let chuck fight his fight and that's why he got knocked out. but i'm hoping chuck realizes that and improves.

i just hope for a great stand up war.
