UFC 82 Card Finalized, Arlovski Finishes On The Undercard

UFC 82: Pride of a Champion
March 1, 2008
Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio

As the former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski’s contract with the UFC ends on April 15, without a contract extension, the promotion decided to bury one of the best known fighters in the sport on the under card of UFC 82.

It seems like a bad move by the UFC to not hang on to their branded celebrity fighters such as Randy Couture, Tito Ortiz, Andrei Arlovski and Nick Diaz, but instead pay outside fighters ridiculous about of money to fight in the UFC. (Cro Cop, Lesnar, Shogun, Chonan, Silva).

As a free agent, Arlovski will be able to shop around and become a headliner for one of the major deep waleted promotions like EliteXC, M-1 or HDNet Fights.

main card

Anderson Silva vs. Dan Henderson
Heath Herring vs. Cheick Kongo
Yushin Okami vs. Evan Tanner
Jon Fitch vs. Chris Wilson
David Bielkheden vs. Diego Sanchez

under card

Andrei Arlovski vs. Jake O’Brien
Luke Cummo vs. Luigi Fioravanti
Dustin Hazelett vs. Josh Koscheck
Jorge Gurgel vs. John Halverson
Chris Leben vs. Alessio Sakara

U know its a great card when AA, Jake Obrien, Josh Koshcheck, and Chris Leben are on the under card…And who is everyone rooting for in the Silva/ Henderson fight…I love both fighters and im considering staing neutral on this one

this is a good card but how can they put aa on the undercard, the ufc just keeps going with these b.s. moves and tries to say there growing the sport

Yeah I'm a big fan of Arlovski even though hes late fights were a little weak. Its an insult to put him the undercard and to not sign him again WTF is the UFC smokin. I know since Pride buyout they have a ton of more fighters but the heavyweights are alwas lacking in popular names. I hope Arlovski signs with M-1 or HDNet then maybe we can see Arlovski vs Fedor well I can dream at least.

You guys all make good points, but can anyone explain what Heath Herring has done in the UFC to deserve to be on the main card?

    February 4, 2008 at 12:43 pm

Yeah good call Mike…in the UFC he has lost to both Jake Obrien and Nog, he beat James Irvin. So a 1-2 record has gotten on the card befre AA, Koshcheck, and Leben

herring didnt beat jame irvin he beat brad imes… james irvin is a 205'r

but i agree heath herring shouldnt be on the main card… nor should kongo in my oppinion. id rather see o'brien vs AA anyday. i think arlovski could beat nog. the ufc should resign him i hope they do. its like ever since he lost to sylvia two in a row they ruined his career. wierd when couture loses to chuck two in a row he gets a heavyweight title shot. cudos to couture for walkin out with the title and stickin it to dana. if randy, fedor, and arlovski all go to m1 they will have 3 of the top 5 heavyweights in my oppinion.

Who here thinks Kongo is actually worthy of being ranked…In my opinion he really is that good of a fighter. Not well rounded, but has decent/ diverse striking with his hands and legs…other than that hes just inanely ripped but i dont think it should get him into rankings

Heath Herring was Quality back in the Pride FC days… he's not had a good match ups in the UFC yet (He'd already fought Nog and Lost twice before the UFC fight, and his first fight was a total bore cos the Obrien guy just way on top of him the whole time)

Heath is a guy that likes to put on a show… I'd like to see him fight Arlovski, Sylvia, Gonzaga.. or Vera

I don't think Arlovski should be on the undercard. Just my opinion. I think he'll make a strong comeback (If given the chance.)

luke is going to drop Fioravanti but other then that i agree withth you picks…lebs should not be the first fight of the night that is going to be a good fight they both have heavy hands and some is going to get knocked out..

theres alot of good match ups on this card i would love to see leben vs sakara its hard to say what fights should be on the main card(other than andre)theres plenty of good fights

I know what the UFC is thinking. They don't want you to see Arlovski, they are putting him on ice and hoping that he isn't as big a draw with whoever he signs with. Thats disrespectful to AA and the fans of the UFC. Herring and Silvia have been boring but they still get top fights and are in main events. This is a move from a monopoly. I can't wait for M1 to get all of these pissed off fighters and put on some good shows so that they UFC will losen up a little bit.

the main card is pretty good but its too bad i wont be able to see arlovski fight. i just hope he can finish the fight early and maybe the ufc will be kind enough to let us watch the fight. otherwise its just a waste.

Joe I agree with all of your pics except for the Silva/Henderson (i dont nessecarily thinkg Hendo will win I just have no idea how the fight will turn out) and I have big problem with u having Kongo over my boy heath…Kongo is extremely overated (he shouldnt be ranked) and his only tool is he is an okay/ diverse striker (have to say he strikes decently with both feet and hands). I say Heath wins that one

    my picks

    hendo(hard one to call)

herring(i agree with brandon kongo overrated heath better on the ground)

leben(more well rounded but who knows if he will use it or just strike)

    here are my DaneTrain pics

-Dan henderson by tko in the 3rd

    -herring by split decision

-my brain say okami but my heart says tanner by decision so im pulling for tanner and i think he can pull it out

-sanchez will come in bulked up and have that old fire and win by rnc in the 2nd

-andrei will have a highlight reel knockout but it wont make the show because danas vagina wont allow it

-cummo will win btu i dont know how

-koscheck will win by some sort of stoppage

    -jorge gurgel wins by tko

-leben will gnp sakara into submission

I agree that Kongo may be a bit over rated (as far as being well rounded), and he really needs to work his ground skills. Herring hasn't impressed me lately and Kongo's striking is far better than Herring's in my opinion. I think Herring is going to get knocked around in that fight and outpointed. I think it may be another boring fight with Kongo coming out on top. Oh and as far as Hendo Silva. I think Hendo is going to receive his first knockout. That's my bold prediction for the night.

heath isnt the quality fighter to be a champion but he does put on a great show and he has a melon of a head that can take a beating. i live in waco were heath is originally from and just about everyone here loves to see his fights and the hooters are ussually packed. dont get me wrong he will probally loose but im positive he will put on a good fight against Kong

AA should be on the main card not hering vs kongo, leben vs sakara. Is it me our did the price of the fights go up what happen to the 29.99 to 44.95, if there going to raise the price they should show all the fights. On boxing cards they show all except the first two. I think ufc is becoming a little Fukkdup about that. They say there for the fans it's seems greed always sticks it to us fans. The Spider by ko Hendo is done.
