UFC 88: Chuck Liddell vs. Rashad Evans Likely

UFC 88 chuck liddell vs. rashad evans

According to a report on ESPN the Magizine, a fight between Chuck Liddell (21-5) and undefeated Rashad Evans (11-0-1) is in the works and is likely to be the main event at UFC 88. According to the report, the fight negotiations are in their early stages and nothing has yet been signed.

According to a UFC source, he will be Chuck Liddell’s mystery opponent in the organization’s debut in Atlanta. The fight has been agreed to in principle–the only thing left is the paperwork. Any kind of win over the Iceman would probably vault Evans into light heavyweight title contention and be a defining moment for him and MMA fans. They’d have to embrace him, right? Right?

The two were iniataly scheduled to meet at UFC 85 until Chuck Liddell suffered a hamstring injury and was forced to pull out of that fight.

i wasn't that excited about it the first time, and still not now. i would prefer chuck vs shogun but he is not ready.it should be machida vs lidell he is more deserving evens went to decision with tito and machida beat him.i kind of feel like they are giving chuck the easiest fight that still has some name to it.there alot of good match ups at lhw right now this one is not at the top of my list.

if evans does win then yeah he should get a tittle shot because he has been some good guys and if he beat ice then that means he has beaten the last 2 best light heavy champ,

i dunno if Rashad is goin to be able to beat Chuck but if he does then he should fight the winner of Forrest and Rampage for #1 contendership

This fight is stricly for Chuck. If he wins he get a title shot right away. I bet they thought that the Shogun fight was a good match up for Chuck too because Chuck has good takedown defense. If Rashad impresses he might get the title shot but other than that he still would need another win.

I can't believe I'm the only one on the Rashad bandwagon. He has fought the best of the division and hasn't been rocked badly. I think he has a great chin. I don't think Chuck will KO him.

Although Bisping was beaten by Hamill, I reckon he beat Rashad (in what was a very close fight)… All things being equal Chuck should knock Evans out (and I hope he does)…

Rashad would be better of cutting weight and dropping to middleweight… his record looks better than he really is – I think Evans would get a kickin' from: Mancida, Shogun, Thiago & Wandy Silva… in fact I think at middleweight he'd be in trouble with Anderson/Henderson/Franklin!

I too would have preffered to see Chuck v Shogun… but chucks not getting any younger and this is the fastest/easiest/legit way to get him a title shot!

I hope he wrecks Evans and takes his unbeaten record…

No way evans drops to middleweight, hes got a much better chance at light heavy, I would rather get in with rampage than silva. Silva wont lose for quite a while I would guess, I can see rampage losing anytime he fights, bad decision maker. Light heavy is stacked and Evans isnt even in the top 5 maybe 7 or 8 so I think its BS that he gets a shot at chuck who is in my mind is turning into a gatekeeper as long as rampage has the belt. They arent gonna put him right back in there after only one or two fights after getting knocked out in the first round even though he did beat wandi. Evans is overated and I think liddell can still be champ but evans doesnt deserve this fight. Rua, Machiada, silva either of them.

yea im with u tom, rahsad should fight machida. it end with machida winning. not sure howd he win, but hed win. machida WOOPED tito and rashad only tied and didnt look too good doing it either. but for chuck vs rashad, chuck should do what he does best, kick another wrestlers butt. andSTEVEO i think your kinda right about chuck being a gatekeeper. I mean i think tito was gona be one, but he just looses everyhitng now. chucks still has mor ethen enough to knock anyone (even 'page) out. And also….i really want to see chuck vs rampage 3. i believe chuck realizes its comin to an end sooner rathetr than later and is he gets in there for a shot against the only man TRULY to beat him, hes gona go in there and do what he did to corture in the second fight. no one can say chuck isnt one of the greatest ever. no one can say chuck has no balls. no one can say that chuck has no shot at rampage. chucks fought the worlds best and won. rashads a loser in chucks way. hes gona get KTFO. chuck wins by KO first round.

I dont see Rashad lasting pass the 2nd. Even at that I dont see this being a good fight for Chuck. If he wins it doesnt prove anything but that Chuck KO'd another wrestler, or BJJ guy (Babaloo)…if he looses than, well he sinks that much further. I would definitely like to see Rampage vs Liddell 3. I think it would be a great fight this time with Chuck winning.

i think its time rashad lost hes getting on my nerves he should fight machida he would get a beat down and chuck should fight Nogueira

I've been saying for nearly a year now that Rashad Evans would knockout Chuck liddell…now i finally get to see it…..Randy Couture said it best himself…Randy said Chuck would never have the skills to beat a man like Rampage or Rashad…Couture has trained with Evans and Randy said Rashad would beat Chuck with ease…EVANS Has the better boxing skills and he's the much better wrestler…Chuck has a history of coming into fights out of shape…He throws a few punches and moves around…Rampage was able to catch him clean and knock him out…I can tell you this…Rampage is NO WHERE close to being as fast or as explosive as Rashad…This will be a very bad fight for Chuck…Evans by brutal Knockout in the second round….I don't see any one in the light Heavy division beating Rashad….

let me get this right. so you no chucks a pu**y and he needs a easy fight to get a title shot! you think Rashad is going to get knock out! do you watch MMA? or do you just enjoy seeing chuck take his top off? because it's clear you no nothing of good MMA fighters.

what are you talking about rod no one will beat rashad he got a draw with tito and in some peoples minds lost to bisping.he is prettty good he's got ground and boxing skills but he will lose to the elite fighters at 205.he may be the better boxer out of him and chuck and he could out land chuck all night but it will only take one of chucks to get through to end it.

Rob eveans again going to knock chuck out and i dont care if you think he is fast then jackson because jackson would kill Rashed so fast

    June 23, 2008 at 3:44 am

Roy i don't know what fight you were watching…But Bisping DID NOT BEAT Rashad…it was a clear 2 rounds for Rashad and 1 for Bisping…You guys are just hating on Rashad because you fear him,,,,What has Chuck Liddell done to be considered this great warrior…Like i said before…He's been knocked down or out in everyone of his last 3 fights…and if he would have lost to WAND….He probably wouldn't be in the UFC anymore…If you people think Rashad is such a push over, then you don't know MMA…Evans is everything Rampage is….times 10…Evans is faster, strong and hungrier…Chuck has never been a fast fighter, he's never in shape and Rampage has said many times Chuck punches like a girl….Evans is gonna knock this overrated bum out.

  19. roy

    June 23, 2008 at 4:47 am

i did not say i thought that but people do feel that rashad lost that fight and either way it was a close fight, i don't hate rashad and i am not a chuck fan but i just call it like i see it, you must be a huge rashad fan with posters and all i to be so blind.i said he was good but to say he is ten times the fighter that rampage is, is way off and not even close to reality.i would love it if reshad beat chuck but i dout that is going to happen, and if he was as good as you say he is he would have beat tito and not lost even one round to bisping.

Its about time they gave rashad a chance to show his skills against a worthy apponent. UFC and anyone else who doubts his abilities are in for a big surprise. Yeah Chuck is good at striking but thats it Rashad Evans is by far more rounded and will be the victor.

  22. Rod

    June 25, 2008 at 9:53 am

B Lee…Chuck is supposed to be a "hard puncher" and everyone says chuck is this great striker…but honestly to me he has the worst stand up in the game today…He constantly keeps his hands down around his nipples and he's wide open and taylor made for a fast and decent boxer like Rashad…I think Liddell has what i like to call the "Gracie disease" Mean that he believes he doesn't have to tweak the rest of his game and get with the times like everyone else…People like this never move up…Look at Tito Ortiz…He was the top dog in his camp and never tried to train with anyone else…It came back to haunt him…Same thing happened with Stephan Bonnar and now it's happening with Chuck. Believe me when i say this…The Jackson camp as gotten the book on how to beat chuck…It takes a decent or good boxer whose willing to throw leg kick…Pretty simple….But i do agree with you.

London Jones i cant believe that u wrote Chucks a pussy have u seen the mans mma record hes beaten the whos who of mma Tito Ortiz Twice, Randy Couture Twice, Renato Sobral Twice, not to mention hes beaten Kevin Randleman, Vitor Belfort, Jeremy Horn, Alistar Overeem, and Wanderlia Silva. And the only two of them men that Chuck didnt KO were Belfort and Silva. Not to mention 6 of them 8 fighters all Wore Titals at one point in their careers so why dont u do a little history befor u go insulting a 4 time Light Heavyweight Champion and a Future UFC Hall of famer. Oh and he will TKO Evans

Hahahhahaha I knew reshad was gonna win…man look reshad is top class…I thought u mma fans had enough of underestimating…when gsp got knocked out by matt s. Look yall need 2 understand that reshad is the future and he is gonna b the next UFC LHC…watch you'll c!

  29. steve

    September 7, 2008 at 7:28 pm

Terry LMAO u talk about underestimating well then im gonna call u out for overestimating lol. Its Rashad not Reshad and he had really I feel and many others feel the same when I say that he lost his last 2 fights coming into this fight and he beat a older and much slower Liddell who after not eing dropped in like 20 straight fights had been dropped in every fight since his second rampage fight. So beating liddell even in the sorta fluke way he did which should have happened to liddell sooner since he keeps his hands below his waist but Rashad did get it taken to him by Tito and Bisping raped him on the standup and rashad had to score on takedowns. Rashad is by no means the future of the sport. Serra beating GSP is a way bigger upset than this fight so dont even compare the 2. Rashad cant handle a guy like forrest whois more well rounded and with Couture making gameplans and tips for Forrest hewill expose Rashad inevery aspect. Then Rashad will be just another guy in the division or maybe drop to middleweight where the comp. is a lil easier.
