UFC 97: Dana White Puts Chuck Liddell In Check

UFC legend Chuck “The Icaman” Liddell (21-5) needs a big showing at UFC 97, to stay relevant in UFC President Dana Whites eyes.

“I’ve made it very clear to Chuck. Very clear … It’s not about money, it’s not about this, that. Chuck is one of my good friends. Chuck (has) cemented his legacy in the UFC and in the fight game. I’m not even saying if he wins, unless he looks incredibly impressive (in Montreal) – I mean, he’s going to have to go out there and dazzle me, for me to want Chuck to still fight.”

“I love him, and I don’t want to see what I saw [UFC 88] in his last fight ever again,”

Losing 3 of his last 4 fights in the UFC and showing little to no improvement in fighting style, Chuck Liddell is going to have to make an example of Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 97 if he wants to even be a factor in the UFC light heavyweight division.

Chuck getting dropped by Evans …what a disapointment ..im sure Rua is gonna want to take him down but can he keep him there is the question ..not sure if he can bang with him ..but thats what i thought about Evans also

Dana would be higher than eagle pussy than to cut chuck liddell, affliction or someone else would be cutting him a check before the door closed behind him at the arena. If Dana has an unspoken bond that is unbreakable with forrest and bonner then he should remember who all those fans were paying to see fight when those guys were nobodies. I agree hes lost a step but I would say until he starts losing to nobodies he can fight as long as he like. Who are the 3 loses, Rampage (former champ and #1 contender) Jardine (has given almost every fighter in that weight class all they have ever wanted) and Rashad (the champ) so until he loses to houston alexander or somebody like that I would say chuck is safe.

I think this is just motivation for chuck to put on a good performance…I don't see a way in hell dana cuts chuck from the ufc…and if he does, he has no soul.

i honestly think that dana is just trying to light a fire in chucks ass. I also think it will work. I have a gut feeling that we will see the old chuck against shogun. I'm lookin for a KO.

i don't think chuck is getting worse. he just isn't changing his game. he's the same chuck as 10 years ago. rua, however, is not. rua is a different (and worse) fighter than even 5 years ago.

Dana is confident. Because whats the odds that Rua is going to get Liddell on the ground? Not that Good. Whats the odds that its going to be a trading war? Pretty Damn Good. Who has the advantage there, Chuck.

Chuck is the same fighter he was when was the champ just a little older. And now that he is not the champ he is having to fight guys that arent tailored made to his style. Now he is fighting guys that have stand up games and u see what happens. No way Chuck actually KOs Shogun. tko is possible for him if shogun gets completly gassed but thats the only way. The best Chuck gots isnt near the best Shogun gots.

chuck should fight as long as he wants, he got ko'd by evans and rmpage so what alot of guys of gotten knocked out more than that and are not told anything like that.i am still going with shogun but its not a safe call by far.

I agree with Roy, Steveo and Derek. He didn't lose to nobodies, he lost to top contenders. I think Dana might be all talk on this one. I think if he loses to Rua, then he really needs to light that fire under his ass.

Chuck is coming back from a big KO. We saw how he cameback after rampage. He lost to jardine. Now I wouldnt be surprised if he shoots and tries to take shogun down. I think it would e a misake to roll with shogun but Shogun is gonna come in shape for this fight and pressure chuck like crazy. You wanna see what a top shogun can do just watch his video with him and rampage.

this will be sho-gones last ufc fight. i dont see how you can go from #1 LHW to looking like an old worn out punching bag.
