UFC Fight Night 9: Stevenson vs. Guillard
UFC Fight Night
Thursday, April 5, 2007
The Pearl at The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada
- Joe Stevenson vs. Melvin Guillard
- Antoni Hardonk vs. Justin McCully
- Kenny Florian vs. Dokonjonosuke Mishima
Both these fighter have massive amounts of talent. They both also have loses to weaker fighters. This fight is going to be about one thing, Guillards take down defense. If Stevenson gets a take down and keeps Guillard down, its over. If Stevenson stays on his feet, Guillard is going to pound Stevenson to a quick stoppage by strikes.
Stevenson by submission in the first round.
Hardonk a talented striker coming from K-1. Justin McCully a last minute replacement for Frank Mir, with only 4 fights in the last 6 years, McCully has a up hill battle with the talented Hardonk. I think Hardonk is going to pound McCully with strikes.
Hardonk by strikes in the first round.
This matchup pins a new up and comer(Florian) vs. a seasoned veteran(Mishima). Mishima has defeated great fighters, but most of his recent UFC match ups were less then stellar. Kenny Florian, an over night success being on The Ultimate Fighter, still has to prove he is top competition. While most would say Florian has defeated good opponents and lost to great opponents(notably Sherk). I still don’t see a Lightweight champion in Floarian. He is a nice guy, but can he really match up with fighters like Sean Sherk, BJ Penn, Gomi, Nick Diaz, Hayato Sakurai, or Gilbert Melendez. Based on Mishima’s latest fights, I am still going to go with Florian.
Florian by submission in the second round

- Kurt Pellegrino vs. Nate Mohr
- Forrest Petz vs. Kuniyoshi Hironaka
- Seth Petruzelli vs. Wilson Gouveia
- Rich Clementi vs. Roan Carneiro
