According to a UFC 75 Conference call, Dana White has stated that Renato “Babalu” Sobral has been cut from his current contract with the UFC.

White said that Babalu has been cut from his contract because of the episode this past weekend at UFC 74. He said if Babalu had held onto a leg or arm – rather than a choke – extra long that the results could have been a lot worse.

White said “Babalu” has been cut from his contract but won’t rule out having him in the organization in the future. “I never say never,” he said.

White said Sobral knows he’s been cut from the organization and that he’s sure that he’s not happy about it. White said that despite the tone of past interviews, he was always planning to cut Babalu from the organization.

I don’t Agree with Dana White, why cut him, he is a good fighter who is fun to watch. What he did was wrong, but so is taking steroids. Steroids cheat your opponent as well as the fans, but the UFC Welcomes them back with open arms saying “It’s the Athletic Commissions that must punish the fighter”.

How stupid is the UFC. Dana is nothing more than a walking contradiction of himself. The guy held onto the choke a while longer which was dumb but he dominated that fight and was impressive. This is as dumb as Nick Diaz being suspended for a year with pot while roiders are given a slap on the wrist.

The UFC never tries to tell its fighters not to trash talk and then they jump all over them when it escalates like this. The only reason Dana would do this is because the LHW division is deep with talent. Any other division espeically middleweight, the top fighters could probably do whatever they want.

I knew this would happen. I love to watch Babalu fight as well, but Dana is running a business and he has to make examples out of guys who screw up. It's business.

Think a year or two from now, Dana brings Babalu back – his big comeback would bring tons of viewers.

Yeah I can see that too. If I was Babalu and Dana hasn't told him about a scheme like that where he would reinstate him fairly soon, then I would split. Go to EliteXC or Bodog and make their talent pool better.

Whats funny is that BJ told people he intentionally held onto his Jens Pulver choke. The ref did the same thing, taped on him and tugged at his arms. But Babalu can be replaced and BJ cant, Dana has his favorites.

Anyone hear about the 2 mil Fedor is offered a fight. That is more than twice the total payouts for a whole PPV. If he doesnt sign that dotted line then forget him and let him go make nothing at another orgainization.

Fedor is worth 2 mil a fight and more. If boring ass De La Hoya makes 20, then he definitely deserves the payday.

F**k Babalu, like the Dana said, were it an arm or a leg, that guy would possibly be recovering from a broken bone…AND FOR WHAT? Because he wanted to teach the guy a lesson? THATS FOUL, anyone who supports this guys is just as evil. There's a difference between a THUG and a FIGHTER

The fact is that the guy looked like he was mauled and that extra choke looked so much worse than it was to people. Your right, when BJ did it it was ok because they were gamers. But because this guy was a pulp it looked bad.

I'd say to Babalu that he should just go to another org and whoop there, forget the UFC and their favorites.

Everyone has valid points on this, especially in light of trash talk being crammed back down one's throat, but believe me; Dana Damien Beelzebub Good to be White does not make any business moves that aren't well thought out, weighed and measured before being enacted. He is already well aware of how this could effect his empire, both at present and in the future.
