UFC News: Kalib Starnes Dropped By UFC

You knew it was coming, UFC Cuts Kalib Starnes:

After losing a unanimous decision on scores of 30-26, 30-27, and an unheard-of 30-24, Starnes received even worse news: He was cut from his contract by UFC president Dana White.

“He just doesn’t belong in the UFC and after his performance the other night, he should consider a new line of work,” White said Monday.

An interesting side note, CageToday reader “ckersey78” posted this in the comments:

UPDATE: Take this as a rumor at best, other commenter’s are disputing this clip.

Just heard Starnes on the radio station from Montreal.

Basically he sets the record straight and backs it up with proof. As many of you know this was his last fight of the UFC contract and he has always voiced his dissatisfaction with his salary. Basically after the Kendall Grove fight where his rib was broken, UFC did NOT cover any medical bills even though it happened on the “work site”.

He said that he is one of the many fighters who get injured and never compensated by the UFC. He was well aware that he was on the main card because it was Canada, and this being his last fight he decided to protest in the names of all underpaid fighters and screw over the UFC.
This is NO joke because he claimed that the only reason Dana White officially released the fight bonuses was in order to counter-act the public statement that Starnes is about to make or would have made. However, since the 75k fight bonuses were disclosed Kalib’s martyr actions may not be as significant.

Nevertheless, expect an official statement later this week as his gym is holding a official press conference on Wednesday. We all know that the “real” Kalib Starnes would have never fought the way he did and luckily there IS an explanation.got this off of sherdog

UPDATE 2 – Kalib Starnes said:

“Any report or rumor that I came on any radio station to comment on the fight or circumstances surrounding the fight or in reference to the UFC or Dana White is completely false,”

I think the cliche "cut off your nose to spite your face" was made just for actions like this. Its impact on UFC is minor. On the other hand, the video of him will always be around- not necessarily with the "explanation" attached. As a matter of fact, many who watched it live will never hear his excuse. Now he is Kalib the Coward.

kalib is a fucking idiot. you don't protest the ufc by NOT fighting in a fight and just running from nate quarry all the time. that whole front not only made Canada look bad, but destroyed Kalib's image / reputation / credibility. If he wanted to protest about how the UFC didn't pay his medical bills, he should have (1) took that straight to Dana white, (2) left the UFC on his own like how Mirko did, (3) fought Nate Quarry and then choose not to resign with the UFC, or (4) went public with the internet websites and shows (i.e. Inside MMA) on trying to force UFC to pay them bills. what a fucking idiot.

The radio station thing is BS. This is a copy and paste from a posting on Sherdog. The original poster can't even name the radio station that he supposedly heard it on. There's also the fact that Starnes is Canadian and gets free health care and therefore has no need to protest anything related to the UFC's health care coverage.

I forgot all about that Pugs…you're right. Canada does have universal healthcare so that kind of makes his protest, if he did protest, look really stupid.

I would like to see some sort of interview with him that explains the fight. Had to be something to it because I don't think he is that big of a pu**y.

even if kalib knew in advance he was going to run for all 15 minutes, he should have at least mentioned to the fans that he was going to do it to protest the ufc… so that people wouldnt think he's a big pussy.

sherdog reports the kalib NEVER made such an interview with a radio station. kalib was dropped by dana white. there are no excuses for kalib's performance, except that he didn't come to fight or was just a scared pussy.

Wow even yahoo found the time to dis kalib I bet he wish he did this sooner. He should throw on some pounds and fight Kimbo. We can see if Kimbo got stamina to chase him down rofl.

i just read that starnes didn't fight because he broke his foot in the first round. still no excuse for that in my book. his foot looked good enough to move around and back peddle.
