The UFC has announced that Mauricio “Shogun” Rua will undergo knee surgery to repair an injury suffered in training for his fight with Chuck Liddell at UFC 85. A new opponent is expected.

“Scheduled to make his return to the Octagon this June against Chuck Liddell at UFC 85 in London, light heavyweight star Mauricio “Shogun” Rua has instead been forced to withdraw from the bout due to a ruptured ACL in his left knee, the same injury he had surgery on to repair last October after his UFC 76 fight with Forrest Griffin……Liddell’s opponent for UFC 85, which will be held at London’s O2 Arena on June 7th, will be announced shortly. “

No one worthy to replace him, Boetsch and Hammil in april. Jackson/ Griffin off limits. Rashad/ Thiago Silva in may. Ortiz/ Machida in June. Sokudjou/ random asian guy i cant rember coming up…There is literally no one tfor Lidell to make a half way decent fight…Im so fucking pissed, i was really looking forward to this fight

hell yeah man.. i want to see them fight cause they are both good.. i think the fighter is going to be randy..ha just watch

    March 4, 2008 at 9:05 am

Tom I hope ur kidding cause I guarentee that doesn't happen…Would be a good rubber match tho, of coarse it would hae to be held at 205

I know i complety agree. Was well excited about the shogun fight! If Boetsch walks through Hammil i will be impressed. And also if Thiago wins again he would be looking good. But neither are worthy of Chuck yet. Still alot to proove. Hmmmm.

    March 4, 2008 at 9:15 am

Plus I dont think either of them will be ready in just under two months especially with most likely medical suspensions pending the fights…My best answer to this problem is ask Anderson Silva if he wants to move up in weight and fight him and the winner of that fight gets a title shot but Anderson at 205 would have a huge disadvantage in strength compared to Lidell becuase Chuck walks around are around 230 as opposed to Silva walking around at around 205. UFC should either do that or they have to throw Chuck a scrub

For the record there is no chance in hell that Randy Couture will replace Shogun to fight Liddell. Another thing is it would'nt be a rubber match, they already had the rubber match. Randy won the first fight and Liddell won the second two.

Your right that there is no one to fight Chuck that isnt already in a fight or is rumored to be. Here is a list of the fights in the LHW division coming up.

April 2 Hamill vs. Boetsch and Alexander vs. Irvin

UFC 84 Wandy vs. Jardine, Ortiz vs. Machida, Sokoudjou vs. Nakamura, and rumored are Evans vs. Thiago Silva and Wilson Gouveia vs. Goran Relijic

    UFC 85 Chuck vs. unknown

    UFC 86 Rampage vs. Griffin

Remember also that Bonner is injured as well. He was to fight Hamill on April 2.

My best guess would be for the UFC to scrap the Rashad Evan vs. Thiago Silva fight and have either one fight Chuck or to ask Dan Henderson to go back to 205. He would have 3 months to prepare for Chuck. Anderson Silva should not move up to fight at a wieght he has never faught at against a man like Chuck. Silva would have was to much to lose right now. He needs to stay at MW and fight Okami. And maybe GSP down the road before a 205 jump.

i was just gunna say i could see dan henderson replacing shogun.

  9. dane drebin

    March 4, 2008 at 9:26 am

the only other fighter i could hink of would be wilson gouvia

    March 4, 2008 at 9:28 am

Nate i never said he should I said that was the best solution, and I doubt they scrap that fight because it is a pretty anticipated fight with two undefeated fighters going at it. And it would be so fucking stupid for him to fight GSP down the road, especially with GSP about to take the WW belt. That would confuse the belt system. Lets say they make it a non-title fight, they would have to agree on a weight that is not in a set class and that would fuck up the weigh-class system which is exactly how boxing got diluted in the first place. Also the fight wuldn't even be fair because of Silva's huge height, reach, and strength advantage. It would be a guy who walks around at 205 fighting a guy who walks around at 185…I never want to see that fight. Besides Okami is going to get beat down by Silva once again so we already know whats going to happen

    March 4, 2008 at 9:30 am

Hendo makes the most sense to replace Shogun, i agree. Three months is enough time to get ready if he doesn't have a medical suspension, i think that would be a great fight cause obviously both fighters have KO power, Hendo has never been knocked out, and it would be Chuck's striking Vs. Dan's wrestling…very interesting!!

Both are good options, Wilson Gouvea and Dan Henderson. I don't know if Henderson would take on the fight after two straight loses but at the same time, I don't see him as a guy to turn down fights very often.

    March 4, 2008 at 9:32 am

Well unfortunately Gouvea is fighting sometime in May i believe, so that only leaves Hendo and possibly Silva

    March 4, 2008 at 9:52 am

i the guy that would give chuck a deserved title shot with a win would be dan, and that would be a great fight i hope it happens.

    March 4, 2008 at 12:48 pm

With Rashad Evans vs. Thiago Silva fighting @ UFC 84 and also Wilson Gouveia vs. Goran Reljic @ UFC 84, those guys are all out of the picture. Unless they scrap a fight. I don't think Bonner will be ready to go either, since he was recently injured and had to back out of the Hamill fight.

Dan Henderson would have 3 months to prepare to fight Chuck, so that is a strong possibility. Both have lost two of their last 3 fights. I just don't think this would be a smart fight for Hendo to take right now.

Some people are saying Ricardo Arona. I think he sucks, because he has lost 3 of his last 4 fights. Also, his last lose was to Sokoudjou. The other two loses were to Wandy and Shogun. The win was against Overeem. Besides the UFC would still have to negotiate a contract with him.

Last but not least, there is former UFC LHW Champ Vitor Belfort. It was not long ago that the UFC was in talks of bringing him back in. At the time he requested a rematch against Tito Ortiz, which the UFC turned down. Chuck does hold a decision victory over Vitor back in 2002. Belfort won both his fight in 2007 and has wins over Randy Couture, Heath Herring, Wandy, and Tank Abbott. So don't rule out Belfort replacing Shogun. It just might happen.

Liddell v Alexander = hell of fight and possibly a great knockout

I say chuck verse Silva again, that would be a great fight.

    March 4, 2008 at 1:40 pm

Also going back to Nates comment, Liddel wieghs in at 230 only because he has a damn beer belly and his conditioning sucks hard core, the guy is out of shape and liddel has not shown very much strength in any of his fights, he has KO power but strenth and power are too very different things to possess. Liddel is on his last legs as well as Anderson but that would still be a hell of a match again.

Liddell and Anderson on their last legs? As for Anderson…..are you crazy?? He is in his prime and for it to be a last leg means that you see him declining. I sure as hell dont see him slowing up any. As for Chuck, yeah he's older and yeah he is slowing and its showing a little. But look at how the guy fights, he conserves the hell out of his energy which is why you don't see him gas. He has no real leg movements and he uses his punches to keep the opponent away until he's ready to fire. I can see him remaining dangerous for many fights to come.

I just got my tickets for the O2 Arena show today!! So I'm a bit dissapointed….

I thought Shogun was gonna kick Chucks Ass…

Best option – Chuck has a 1 time fight at Heavy weight and fights Brandon Vera or Cro Cop!!

  21. Ashman1

    March 4, 2008 at 10:23 pm

Naaah not heavy weight. Chuck has no reason to fight at heavyweight. As for Dan Henderson, i dont think he would take that fight. I also think if Henderson was to beat Chuck where would he go from there? I beleive Anderson Silva would be the best bet to replace shogun. There is no-one left at 185 for anderson to fight, and if he was to go up to 205 he would want to fight a big name fighter. Winner of Chuck vs. Anderson should get a title shot. That would be awsome.

respond to brando#5 how bout Chuck vs the African assaiansssss, that vato that came in like the predator and got submitted by T.silva. he's know to be a striker and he fought norg and a couple others in pride did alright. He will stand with chuck and trade, come on the guy won't have nothing to loose. That always make for exciting fights whehter it be in boxing or mma.

there are talks that the ufc has been in negotiations with Vitor Belfort and Ricardo Arona. if they can sign one of those guys maybe they can be some options for chuck.

  26. roy

    March 5, 2008 at 4:31 am

i still think the best bet is dan, maybe not a good choice for dan after facing two of the best in a row.everybody else thet is worthy is already booked.arona belfort or lil nog would be great but they are not with the ufc right now.i don't think anderson is wanting to move just yet.

    March 5, 2008 at 6:13 am

ANDERSON ON HIS LAST LEGS?!?!?PLEASE…if ur gonna say that then u might as well never coment on this site again because that is completely false. He has in fact gotten better with every fight, and shows no signs of declining. He has DOMINATED everyone he's fought in the UFC so u are competely wrong and that is one of the stupidest comments ive ever heard

  28. roy

    March 5, 2008 at 6:26 am

i thought it was such a bad comment that i did not say anything thinking he must of been meaning someone else and just wrote andersons name.

  29. Tim

    March 5, 2008 at 6:53 am

Anderson Silva not Anderson the MW champ.

  30. Tim

    March 5, 2008 at 7:03 am

Okay my bad im thinking of Wanderlei Silva as being on his last legs but i correct myself he looks older than he really is. My mistake.

    March 5, 2008 at 7:41 am

Tim spitting out mistakes like that could get u hurt on this site man haha, although i agree wandi does not look like the wandi of old, i still think hes got something left. If he loses to Jardine that would be horrible, 4 straight losses is bad for anyfighter. But first off he wont lose, hes to determined and has moved to the best camp (extreme couture) where he wil expand his game. And if he does lose, which he wont, he will move down to middle weight and I can see him being a dominant force outside of Anderson. I think Okami Vs. Wandi would be a sick fight

  32. Tim

    March 5, 2008 at 8:25 am

HAHA Thanks, I agree Wandi was once a dominant fighter and i believe he can still be but he needs to get past Jardine which he most likely will but dont count him out as he went the distance with Liddel and won.

    March 5, 2008 at 8:50 am

Yeah but Lidell didn't take that fight seriously at all, he completely underestimated Jardine and was seen at night clubs 4 nights a week in the weeks before the fight…Jardine is not that great of a fighter. I would say hes average with good power and a good chin, but wandi is focused as a mother fucker right now!

once again I rather see chuck vs T.Silva not Rashad
