UFC Turns Down M-1 Offer For Fedor Emelianenko Vs. Randy Couture

randy couture vs. emelianenko

randy couture vs. emelianenko

Randy Couture told Cron.com, that he had arranged an offer for a UFC and M-1 Global co-promoted fight between him and Fedor Emelianenko.

“We got an official offer from M-1 to the UFC to do a co-promotion for the Couture-Emelianenko fight, and they (UFC) rejected that offer. Really, the only thing standing in the way for that fight right now is Dana and the UFC. Obviously, M-1 is happy to do a co-promotion like that. It only serves to help them. I think the UFC is looking at it the other way, and it’s like why do we want to help out another organization? The fans want to see that fight. At some point, you have to put that first.”

Not a big surprise, if the UFC took the bait, they would have to admit that other MMA organizations do indeed exist.

  1. WTF Dana?

    December 20, 2007 at 5:48 am

Dana is very good at promoting the UFC. He is definitely the guy to take UFC from bankruptcy to a thriving minor sport. TUF was a brilliant move, Pride was a brilliant move, but im not sure he is the guy that can take UFC to the next level. From the outside it looks like not enough is being done on the roids front, he has a reputation for not treating fighters well both at the top and bottom. How he addresses these issues will affect if he can get the best talent and deliver compelling fights in the future.

this is no surprise… randy will have to wait for his contract to run out and do the fight at m1 in mid 2008. cant wait!

    December 20, 2007 at 7:31 am

i have to agree with dana. look at boxing where there are like 4 major belts and then a dozen minor belts. there should one belt. in boxing right now, all of the champions are afraid to fight each other and thus, can't unify into one championship. dana is smart with the UFC; we need only one premier belt and organization. we, however, do need these small organizations to help build up fighters, but again, we only need one major organization to claim a single champion…. and as for fedor, once he loses decisively, it's pretty much over for him and M1. there's going to be no more hype or anything. i believe randy is just going to wait until he hits 46 years old and when his UFC contract expires to fight with M1 in a one fight deal. M1 will definitely take this offer, but by selling fedor-couture, M1 will get its name out and make a lot of money from PPVs.

    December 20, 2007 at 7:35 am

Dana doesn't want to help M1 get off the ground thats why he turned down the fight. He can't stop them forever, they are going to grow and eventually challenge the UFC in talent.

no derek thats what dana is trying to sell you that he wants only one belt whtich sounds great but is not what he is trying to do why does he let his personal beefs keep top ranked fighters out of the ufc why are there so many bad cards when they do have some talented fighters. he wants a monoploy so he can sell overrated events have low paid fighters on those cards and you won't have a much of a choice.different ogranizations will bring more and better compition and if two fighters are at the top in different ones than they can copromote but dana wants it all for himself.when he signs all the top guys regardless of his feelings for them than maybe i would buy that bullshit

don't get me started on the UFC mistreatment. it's a fact that UFC underpays most of the fighters, especially with those PPV numbers, mass promotions, and numerous sponsorships. UFC treats very few fighters well… mirko (350K oer fight), randy (250K per fight), chuck (250K per fight), etc. i think the underpaid thing made nick diaz leave… same thing with frank shamrock, etc.

In my opinion Dana is a greedy bastard, cocky lil son of a bitch, he should do what the fans want and make that fight happen, Its a big money maker for bothe organizations plus it would go down as the greatest fight in MMA history along with the Props he would get for making it happen, now if dude could get his head out of his ass and he would start making moves to push this thing, we can see who the greates of all times truly is this way if, Randy looses he can retire knowing he lost to one of the baddest dudes on the planet and if he wins he can retire he is the baddest, dude on the planet comprende. Fedor wants it and so does Randy so lets make it happen already. Before fedor looses to some sorry no name Idiot then the fight wont matter.

    December 20, 2007 at 10:35 pm

Hey did anybody hear about the soon to be article regarding Randy and the UFC?

    "The Natural" potentially exposed?

This info is the basis for an article that supposedly is coming out soon regarding the suspicious circumstances surrounding Couture's return from retirement to face Poopsy (Tim Sylvia). There are other things that are supposed to be exposed as well such as his use of HGH and "hormone replacement therapy." All this is supposed to some how tie in to his latest "retirement". It seems Captain America's image is being tarnished more and more by the day. He also doesn't seem to be as "natural" as some people thought "The Natural" was.

This is a debate I found on MMA Weekly's forum between an mma writer named Tony Caiazzo, who is supposedly going to break this story, and someone that was being a Randy ***hugger. It is supposed to be published in a yet to be named mma magazine but is evidentially being held up by Couture's legal team.

    I don't "believe" I have information Jason. I KNOW I have information.

What you are saying above would be akin to me telling you that you "BELIEVE" you woke up this morning. You KNOW you woke up this morning because you saw it with your own two eyes.

My evidence that this went down is even more solid than your "evidence" that Randy is on HGH or something else!

Here's the way it is, like it or not, and time will prove me right so I don't much care who doesn't buy it at this point.

    1. Randy knew about Tim's injury, spotting signs of it in the Monson fight.

    2. Randy invited Tim to come train with him.

    3. Randy discovered the extent of Tim's injury, as Tim fighting Monson involved a cortizone shot, Tim training with Randy, did NOT involve a cortizone shot.

    4. Randy was taking Tim down at will when they trained together, and even mentioned to another fighter who was present that he was "very surprised at how bad Sylvia's take down defense had gotten."

    5. Randy then comes out of retirement, and requests an immediate title shot in the HW division.

    6. Tim is sleeping four hours a night, tops, because he can't take pain killers and his legs are going numb.

    7. Two weeks after training with Randy, Tim gets a call from Dana telling him that he's facing Couture on Feb 3rd.

    8. Tim's doctor informs him that he can only give him three more cortizone shots. Tim gets one immediately, so he can kind of train, gets another one two weeks before the fight, and the last one just before leaving for Vegas.

    9. Tim loses, and Zuffa picks up the tab for his back surgery.

Dana and Zuffa make huge bucks on Randy's return, as does Randy. Tim gets at least one more huge paycheck before potential career ending surgery, and everyone is happy as a pig in shit.

Tim's surgery is a success, and because he played ball and proved to be a company man, he's brought right back into the mix ASAP…….EVEN THOUGH he's had some really boring fights, and even though he garners the kind of hate that does NOT inspire people to watch him fight (unlike Tito)…..he is still given a high profile fight, on a main card, against a guy who hadn't fought in a year whom he outweighed by a considerable amount.

There are a ton of other things that are left out of this, things that come from other trainers with no specific connections to either fighter, former training partners of both fighters, current training partners and former conditioning coaches, and some P.R. people to boot.

I covered every base here Jason. I know what I'm talking about.

You're just going off how you feel about the matter

Like I told you all before Dana is a shady money hungry son of a bitch, dont be suprised to find out that fights are being set up to male the UFc more money like the Pierre fight he lost to that midget Serra kinda suspicious.

you left out the part where couture manhandled gonzaga a guy who was supposed to destroy couture.what was gonzagas injury? what was his excuse. umm well randy broke my nose with the crazist double leg/headbut in ufc history so i didnt work up to my potential right? give me a break. coutures not on steroids thats just speculation from someone who loves fedor. i dont see any truth behind that i think its just a story being blown out of proportion by the media. and pierre got kocked the fuck out by a game opponent that night. what do u think he was drugged before the fight by dana? did dana pay george a million dollars to drop the fight to an un known fighter like serra even tho it made no financial sense when dana had been pusshing george as the next big dominant welterweight champion? gonzaga knocking out mirko hurt the ufc as did serra knocking out george. it ruined their plans. they had to totally change the huge superfights they had planned. do u think the ufc planned to make the 205 division into the cluster fuck that it is right now? u guys are looking way too deep into this. randy thought he could beat tim after out wrestling with him everytime they trained together. randy got pissed because he knew he could take tim down and everybody else was making tim look like the master of the sprawl. randy bulked up faught at his NATURAL (no pun intended) weight. when randy cuts to 205 he loses a lot of muscle that he would usually have. he is a much better fighter as a heayweight. randy schooled tim and took his title then he destroyed gonzaga a more than game opponent. he is waiting for fedor. edor wont come to him and goes to m1 to hide but it wont last for long. have fun destroying cans fedor. because randy is gunna give up his ufc title and wait till his ufc contract expires. then he is gunna make a lot of money from m1 and expose fedor as the overrated pride champion that he is by beating him like a red headed stepchild

  12. Dj Ez - Q

    December 22, 2007 at 6:07 am

To the guy above that posted, thats cool every one has there opinion. Like i said before i dont care if dude did do steroids or not or who he beat, actually i wanted Randy to beat Gonzaga. I beleive Mirko could have beat any of the 2 guys he lost to, he didnt look like himself at all Ive seen him destroy guys way bigger than Gonzaga and that other fool every one has to loose at one point or another. It wasnt only me speculating on the Pierre fight being set up thousands of other people also. Did you ever read the article where Rampaige said in pride they would pay him an extra 2 thousand to take the fall to Sakuraba, one never knows what goes on behind the scenes, you know. as far as Fedor goes he is good he got the best win streak and beat some of the baddest dudes also like Nogueira and Mark hunt no walk overs anyways when that fight happens we will see what happens I beleive if randy takes fedor to the ground consitanley he will win, But if fedor keeps it on the feet or takes Randy down he can win in either place.

  13. dane drebin

    December 22, 2007 at 9:19 pm

St. Pierre didn't throw the fight. He obviously got caught. It happens. And by the way, I'm not looking too far into anything. I was just passing the information I found. That doesn't mean the information reflects my personal opinion in any way. I just thought it was interesting.

Now this is just from what i heard but i believe that Randy still has two more fights to go along with the nine months on his contract. So even after 9 months if he sings with m1 he will most likely be sued out of everything he owns. As for if the fight ever takes place… I just have to go with Fedor to win but I hope.. just hope that Randy can do what he does best and do the impossible.

  16. DJ EZ - Q

    January 8, 2008 at 3:31 pm

Everyones trying to kiss Randy's ass even though he has beat a couple of tough opponents hes one of the only ones in MMA that has almost as much losses as he does wins with something like 16 wins and 8 losses nothing to be proud of and hes all desperate to wanna fight Fedor come on now, lets be realistic now he should fight Nogueira theres still alot to prove in MMA or him against Rampaige would even be good, But if does fight, Fedor, I kind of want Fedor to win. Im 100 percent sure if the fight takes place all Randy will do is try to take Fedor down and ground and pound when it does happen it will be interesting.

why is everyone so high on Nogueira. Did anyone see his last fight against Heath Herring. That was a sad performance. As for Rampaige, if you think they are going to put Randy vs. Rampaige then you dont even know MMA. And For Randy vs. Fedor I don't care what anyone says about that. Its going to be a good fight.

  20. Dj Ez - Q

    January 16, 2008 at 11:28 pm

It should be an okay fight, Randy says after the Fedor fight theres nothing else to prove hell yeah there is theres to many tough opponents, I guess I dont know MMA if some one from light heavy weight moves up to fight a heavy weight or vice a versa that would be a cool ass fight, Rampaige vs Couture their bothe good and it would be a moneymaker wich probably wont happen due to the fact that their buddies, so let him fight Fedor if he wins he goes down as a bad ass if he looses he goes down as an Idiot for making so much of a big deal for wanting to fight Fedor, you take your pick for what you would like to see.

  21. Brandon

    January 17, 2008 at 12:01 am

Na DJ, if he wins he goes down as one of the best, if not the best heavyweights to ever put on the gloves. And if he loses he still goes down as one of the greatest heavyweights ever, he goes down with a legacy that in his last fight he went out with integrity and let all fall in the ring. He goes out with everyone kowing he gave it his 100% best, he goes down as a great man/ fighter in either outcomes in my opinion

  22. Mark

    January 26, 2008 at 1:06 am

All I'm saying about Randy vs. Rampaige is that is would be a stupid idea by Dana White. And one thing Dana White doesn't make is stupid ideas. He make the Decision that is best for the company and would make more money in the long run. Why would they want one guy holding two belts. Sure Randy is just that good to beat Rampaige but that would not be good for 1 man to hold two belts. 2 Belts means more fights or less fights. How would they manage one person defending both titles. That would not only be way to risky for the UFC but a health issue for the fighter defending both title. What makes this sport less dangerous then boxing is that you fight for max 5 rounds(5 mins a pop). And that you only have to fight so many times a year.

  23. Dj Ez - Q

    January 26, 2008 at 6:47 am

why would it be stupid Mark, if hes planning on putting Bj Penn against Pierre if they both win their next fights he has already stated in MMA news to see who is truly the best, their both in different weight classes so why could it not be done because you said, come on now guy, As for Dana making stupid decisions you would have to be retarded to think he doesn't make stupid ones, if thats all the idiot does, but I cant get into that one right now. Anyways i wont hold Coutures nuts at 16 wins and 8 losses although he has beat Alot of tuff dudes, Fedor has beat tuffer in my opinion, and who cares if never faces Rampaige it would be a good fight and yes Rampaige would probably win, and when Bj penn does rematch Pierre I hope he beats the shit out of him anyways, randy wins hiss last 2 fights and now hes a super Hero. Anyways Cheers from Denver Colorado.

  24. Mark

    January 27, 2008 at 3:57 am

Did you notice that Dana White didn't want Bj to fight pierre. He was the one that said to have a couple title defenses at 155 before moving up a weight class. It is probably going to happen because of Bj's age and natural talent that he can hold the 155 and 170. But you cant even argue that it would be bad for the UFC that 1 man hold two belts. How does that make the UFC look. Weak very weak, that they dont have the fighters to make the champion of one weight class to just want to defend his own. That he has to try and prove himself more by going up or down a weight class. Soon its going to be 5 guys in the UFC fighting trying to hold as many titles as they can. Its why they bought PRIDE, and have brought in a lot of the fighters that were supposed to be good trying to fill the gaps. Soon its going to be, who cares about the other fighters. lets put pierre against the spider, Randy against rampage, Bj vs pierre. It will be just one big gay party. And for the record Dana White doesn't want everyone to know the UFC doesn't have the best fighters. But yet its the biggest name out there cause of him.

  25. Dj Ez - Q AKA the I

    January 27, 2008 at 5:37 am

Actually If Bj Penn did beat Pierre he wouldnt have 2 belts the other guy would keep it, It would be a none title fight but still show who is the best at either weight class, and if they did have that big gay party it would be cool because at least you would get to see some fights that may never happen, As for Dana hes a punk in my opinion thats why alot of fighters hate him hes an Idiot yeah he promote the sport but he looks out for whats best in his interest only, Look at why Couture left and Titos leaving after his next fight and what him and The ferritas have done for Pride fighting a 10 year organization wich they promised would be around still and they have done nothing, Danas not the man but a coward, and the fights he set up for some Pride fighters who were legends made them look bad yup that was his fault.

    January 27, 2008 at 5:55 am

Dana is an asshole i agree…but he is in no way an idiot. The man brought the UFC from nothing, acquirred pride (as for bad fights he gave sokujedia a fight with machida) and he only looks out for his own companies interest because as a president of a MMA company he cant ackoledge any other company. Dana gave pride fighters an easy first fight for the most part and most of them couldn't do anything. They could not make the change from the ring to the cage which i think is BS. If you are a good MMA fighter in any aspect then you should be able to make changes in your game. It was just that pride made their fighters out to be better then they are and to the same degree that is what the UFC has to do. As for GSP he is the man at 170 and if anyone disagrees with that, then hell….just wait for the fight against BJ.

  32. Dj Ez - Q

    January 27, 2008 at 10:11 am

making the change to a cage is huge, and most Pride fighters didnt take that into consideration, as far as pride fighters being over rated they are all good even with the losses. Anyone can have back to back losses Chuck,Koschek,Diego,Da Spyda it happens its MMA, But look whos holding the belts right now Rampaige and Anderson silva where they from Pride. As for Pierre hes good, but if he rematches BJ Penn he will be anihilated, I thought BJ won the first fight doing the most damage on the face and not getting put into comprimising postions, all Pierre had were like to good takedowns at the end wich he did nada with, alot of people know BJ was robbed on that won if anything it should have been a draw. The judges are fucked up sometimes even when the other guy won they give it to the wrong person LOOK at the Bisping VS hamil fight, you would have to be retarded to think Bisping won that fight even the commenators said their was something wrong.

I hope Pierre wins and i hope BJ wins his next fight so they can rematch and BJ Penn messess Georges face up again like no one else has done in MMA. But with my luck they will give Rush the decision because hes favored by the referees as some one else posted. St. Pierre deserves all the respect he's earned so far. Like it or not he's one of the best in the world. Even if what you say about your "homeboys" is true, there's a lot more to the game than hard punches. I don't think St. Pierre will have the same problem. I'd love to see a Penn St. Pierre rematch. The've both improved since then (with the edge to St. Pierre.)….. I also want an "I am not impressed by your performance" T-shirt.

I have a homeboy that runs a lemonade stand who has a picture of himself with BJ Penn. BJ Penn told him personally that he would retire if I signed with the UFC because I'm the only person he's ever been afraid of. I hope everyone is really impressed.

GSP is elite and so is BJ Penn, it would be a great fight. I think GSP will avenge his loss to Serra no Problem… Anyone can get caught in MMA and that's what happened first time round. That said I would like to see Matt Serra submit Matt Hughes!

I'm hoping Paul Daley improves his ground game, joins the UFC and shakes up the welterweight division under GSP… It would be good to see him knock out boring old Koscheck etc

    January 31, 2008 at 2:23 pm

I think Fedor is going to try and take it to the ground. That is what he tries to do in all his fights. I think they both want to take it to the ground to be honest. Its just who is going to end up in the best situation. I think Randy has the better wrestling and take downs so that might favor Randy. Randy also always has a pretty good game plan when coming into a fight. Fedor I'm not so sure about his game plans. They all seem to be the same. Striking to get it to the ground and then passing and ground and pound or submissions(thinking about it, thats almost exactly what Randy does). It will be good. I just don't see it standing up for that long. They both are going to try and use the striking to lead to their take downs. In the end i give it to Randy. The last two fights he has had really impressed me with his technique and game plans. And i think that is going to be the deciding point.

Just to say that Fedor's transition between his striking and his ground game is just freakish. That will most deffenitly be better then Randy's transition game. So when it hits the mat look for Fedor's scramble to get back on top or to get into a better position right away. Fedor also has some sick triangle off his back along with arm bars. If it does go to the ground Randy has to watch out or he will get caught big time. But i still have to go with "Captain America" Randy by split decision.

Ill have to agree with you on this one Mark, you have it almost exactly how I would have it, Couture is an expert when dealing with bigger guys also, and having no problem with ground and pound although I havent seen to many submissions by him, Im giving the edge to Randy he always seems to come thru if anything if does win he should retire he would have no more to prove, But Fedor damn that guy is tuff as hell as you have seen he can take punishment, and it seems like when he gets hit it pissess him off and he starts throwing bombs, like on the Randlemen slam or when Fujita caught him it only made him better, If Fedor gets lucky by submission if not Randy all the way by stoppage submission or decision
