Anthony Pettis gets his New Year’s wish and that is to fight Jose Aldo, featherweight champion. Their much-awaited fight will happen in August 3, 2013 however there are no details of the venue and other matches that will be held for that event.
Anthony “Showtime” Pettis has been keen on losing weight for this event. From lightweight, he will need to train and diet to be fit and trim for featherweight; and since this event is months away, developments of his weight loss and training will surely be news on every MMA site.
Dropping from lightweight to flyweight is no small undertaking; many fighters have made this cut but managed to fail in the end. Pettis was expected to challenge the winner of the April 20 Benson Henderson versus Gilbert Melendez fight but it seems that UFC and Showtime has other plans for the determined fighter. He will have to diet, make strict cuts on his training and be confident to make his debut. But Pettis is confident that he is ready for this challenge; fresh from his three consecutive victories against Donald Cerrone, Joe Lauzon and Jeremy Stephens, “Showtime” is now ready to make this switch.
Pettis has 16 wins and only 2 losses in his professional MMA career. His last victory was against Donald Cerrone in January 26, 2013 at UFC on Fox 6 Johnson versus Dodson. Pettis has managed to kick Cerrone’s chance to capture a win in just 2 minutes and 35 seconds of round 1. His win over Joe Lauzon was another KO moment as Pettis gave Lauzon terrible kicks and punches to the body in just a minute and 21 seconds of round 1. This momentous win was at UFC 144 Edgar versus Henderson in last February 26, 2012.
On the other hand, Jose “Scarface” Aldo is a fighter to beat at 22 wins and only 1 loss. This fantastic fighter from Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil has been unbeatable since May 2006 with a 15 winning streak. His most recent win was over Frankie Edgar on February 2, 2013 at UFC Aldo versus Edgar via unanimous decision. Scarface’s only loss was in the hands of Luciano Azevedo in Jungle Fight 5 in November 2005 via submission.
The Aldo versus Pettis bout is just one of the magnificent fights to look forward to at the UFC Featherweight Championships in August. More featherweight fighter action will surely be co headliners for this impressive event.
