  3. roy

    June 12, 2008 at 2:05 am

the best card ever, people will regret not ordering it.

  4. GirlyGirl

    June 12, 2008 at 2:17 am

Yeah, definitely NOT the best card ever.

Do you two work for Affliction or something?

    It's decent, but not amazing.

  5. roy

    June 12, 2008 at 3:23 am

if its not than name the best card ever, you must not know these fighters and are a ufc fan to say that this card is not amazing.the undercard alone is close to amazing.but truly please name a better card.

  6. Dave

    June 12, 2008 at 3:26 am

I think they'll get more than 50,000 on PPV, but only for this first event. Fedor vs. Tim should be a good fight (unless it goes to the ground early) and many people will want to see it, including me. But the UFC is still the premier organization and I don't think there's room for more than one considering the steep PPV prices.

  7. tom

    June 12, 2008 at 3:47 am

o yeah i work for affliction naw.. its just a amazing card.. all the fighter are well know and they are all close to the same skill leave with there oppents so it a great card and i cant wait to see it

  8. GirlyGirl

    June 12, 2008 at 6:58 am

I know the fighters….and aside from the Fedor/Sylvia fight, the rest pale in comparison. Fedor is the one carrying the card. Fedor will be the reason the card does well. That and people want to see Sylvia lose.

My knowledge is not limited to the UFC, but I find UFC fight cards tend to be better and the fighters more skilled – UFC 75 and 76 were both stacked with more talent.

Yeah, the card has names…. but it's not THAT impressive.

  9. Jordan Katz

    June 12, 2008 at 7:02 am

Fedor is regarded as the #1 heavyweight in the world.

Tim Sylvia is highly considered a top five ranked fighter in the world (by,, etc).

Josh Barnett is also an elite fighter and one of the best heavyweights in the world.

Andrei Arlovski is considered a top-10 heavyweight and is one of the more recognizeable in MMA.

Both Barnett an Arlovski's opponents are well-established veterans.

Matt Lindland is a top five middleweight and Mike Pyle is a very good fighter.

That is a pretty impressive resume of fighters on one card.

  10. tom

    June 12, 2008 at 7:59 am

plugs paul was the 2 best heavy weight at a time and they have alot of UFC vets the card and They have the IFL top fighters..

  11. roy

    June 12, 2008 at 8:10 am

girly girl i could see how you would debate if it where the best or one of the best but to say its not amazing and just decent your way off. your right right now its just names and it has to live up to them but i think they will and no ufc card has had this much talent on 1 card.and depending on with ranking you look at you got

fedor #1 h.w. and some say #1 pfp

sylvia ranked top 5 h.w. x ufc champ

barnett ranked as high as #3 h.w. x ufc champ

rizzo big name from the past

rothwell x ifl champ some have him ranked

arlovski x ufc champ top ten ranked h.w.

linland top 5 m.w. for many years

lig nog was highly ranked lhw

    babalu was highly ranked lhw

aleksander some have ranked in top ten h.w

belfort was one of the best still a good name.

other notable names buentello martin young pyle just about all of them have a name

sorry no ufc card has had more names than this.

  12. tlos

    June 12, 2008 at 9:14 am

this card is surely better then UFC's last ppv. i can say that much. there are fights. the under card that isn't going to be shown is even good. i mean aleksander emelianenko [fedors brother and winner of his last 4 fights], paul buentello [beat tank abbot and fought for the UFC title], antonio rogerio nogueira [submitted dan henderson who just fought for the ufc title], vitor belofot [once UFC champ], terry martin [beat jorge rivera]. cmon' thats a good ass UNSEEN card.

    June 12, 2008 at 10:27 am

The interviewer doesn't think it will sell? What a dumbass. How many UFC's did we buy that were headlined by Tim Sylvia or Andre Arlovski. If they are UFC fans then why wouldn't they know Mike Whitehead since he was on TUF. They didn't mind buying Babalu vs. Chuck.

On top of that you have the Pride guys like Fedor, Alexander, Barnett, and Belfort. The fanbase that PRIDE had was way bigger than the UFC so why wouldn't they get those buys. This thing is going to get big numbers.

  14. Scooby Doo

    June 12, 2008 at 11:31 am

the under card is better than the last ufc 85 main card other than one name on the card.(matt hughes getting beat up.) I will be ordering the Affliction show. WAIT the next 86 & 87 ufc card should be on spike not PPV.

  15. dane drebin

    June 12, 2008 at 1:06 pm

the factor of this paperview selling or not isnt the name fighters and the matches its the promoting. the casual fans have no idea about this card and they need to put out some comercials

  16. onyx

    June 12, 2008 at 2:15 pm

Pride sold. elite sold. why cant this sell. Its not like IFL that had no fighers. The fighters sell PERIOD. Afflication is a brand name and will sell. Fedor is the man.

  17. Oswald Gobblecock

    June 12, 2008 at 2:19 pm

Roy, you may be into it but this is NOT the best card ever. I thought UFC 79 Liddell vs Silva and GSP vs Hughes 3 was better then this. I know there have been several other UFC cards that were better.

Fedor vs Sylvia is gonna be good but not more then Liddell vs Silva was! Barnett, Linland, Babalu, Belfort all stopped winning in the UFC which is why they're now fighting in a 2nd rate organization. Might as well add Tank to the card since you're into once ranked fighters as opposed to current top ranked fighters with the exception of the main card of course.

  18. onyx

    June 12, 2008 at 2:25 pm

That was so long ago that those guys lost in the ufc. Plus Babalu was booted after a dominant win because the fans complained. Barnett is winning. Lindland and Belfort i'm not sure about. But everyone likes Evan Tanner in the ufc and he hasn't done nothing lately. The fights will tell I guess. I'm buying this because the ufc needs competition so they dont put on crappy shows like the last one.

  19. dane drebin

    June 12, 2008 at 4:02 pm

belfort has won his last two fights im not sure about lindland but he's done the best against rampage i would say better than anyone ahs done in a long time. this card is awesome stop the bickering

  20. Oswald Gobblecock

    June 12, 2008 at 4:59 pm

That's my point onyx, it was so long ago and they're not getting any younger. Babalu isn't gonna be champ in the UFC. Evan Tanner stopped fighting for a while but I'm sure if he loses to Grove in his next fight he'll be gone. I'm not sayin the fights won't be good, hell I love the short Kimbo vs Tank fight but those guys as we all know can't cut it in the UFC. I agree UFC 85 sucked but it was a damaged PPV where the main card kept getting switched and then dropped. They should have just showed it for free on Spike but UFC 84 was awesome. Dane, no1 said this card wasn't awesome. Roy was tryin to say that this is the best card ever which it isn't.

Creating 1 great PPV isn't that impressive. Lets see Affliction continue to give top notch PPV's! It won't happen. Not if they do it monthly like the UFC does. Hell sometimes UFC will go 2 weeks in between PPV's which I think is too soon. They should put together better cards at some points but they've got alot to prove past this PPV even though it does look good.

  21. GirlyGirl

    June 12, 2008 at 8:32 pm

Oswald – that was pretty much my point, but you said it much better :P

But I do agree that this better than the last UFC PPV.

  22. Scooby Doo

    June 13, 2008 at 1:05 am

Too Bad Pride went under the thing about pride is the fighters fought even if they lost. example Rampage lost twice to silva and to shogun, but he was'nt booted off the organization he was still in. That's what I loved about pride win or lose u could rematch, and keep on fighting in the ufc u lose twice or third time u get booted (who next Hendo?). Hope Afflication can bring back that BATTLING back ! Fight to win or lose but keep on fighting! I don't think these guys on the card r nowhere near Tanks division( past his prime!) That's sad to even talk about putting tank on this card o gobb #20. And its better than next ufc card. (example) they just have one fight. a fight I want to see, they could'nt name (ill will, bedlem)it so they just call it JACKSON vs Forrest. That's it one fight for 44.99. NOT! MMAlinker to see it

  23. roy

    June 13, 2008 at 1:25 am

oswald you are completely wrong you said barnett, lindland, babalu and belfort stopped winning in the ufc and thats why they left.that proves to me you don't even know these fighters because its not true, maybe belfort quit winning but the rest left because of different reasons.barnett was the youngest ufc h.w. champ kicking the shit out of randy he had 1 dirty test withc alot of ufc fighters have had and still do but he was thrown out and went to pride and had a great career, lindland was on a winning streak and considered the #1 mw and dana through him out because of a t-shirt he wore, babalu was on coming off of a win when he was thrown out for holding on to a choke to long and belfort may have lost to randy but his fight with chuck and tito where very close and when he shows up to fight is a threat to anyone.

  24. roy

    June 13, 2008 at 1:30 am

and oswald go check the rankings these guys are still ranked if you want to compare silva vs liddel great fight gsp vs hughes not that great but big names there two fights that could match up with any two fights on this card and be as good or better yes but it does not matc h up to the whole card.

  25. roy

    June 13, 2008 at 1:34 am

i know alot of people might not know these fighters as well but after the event and the significants of this event you will see that this is one of(imo the biggest)the biggest events ever.

  26. roy

    June 13, 2008 at 1:34 am

you know the last time barnett fought nog the ufc champ he won right.

  27. Nichole Lesniak

    June 13, 2008 at 2:05 am

roy…the last time he fought nog, barnett lost. And it was TWO years ago. That's a long time in MMA.

  28. roy

    June 13, 2008 at 2:14 am

my bad he lost to him in dec 06 and beat him in sep 06, its not that long ago its not like nog is the ufc champ now and barnett is washed up barnett is younger.

  29. tom

    June 13, 2008 at 3:53 am

wait you think josh barnett is washed up??

  30. erik

    June 13, 2008 at 4:25 am

Josh Barnett is a long ways from Washed up and in my opinion is gettin closer to being the best he's ever been…he still has a good 6 year left for sure

  31. roy

    June 13, 2008 at 4:58 am

no i am not saying he is washed up, to have beaten nog 18 months ago is not a long time ago to me and i agree that he is probally in his prime right now.i think he is the guy that will beat fedor and aready beat the shit out of randy.imo he is the #3h.w. in the world and could be #1.

  32. Oswald Gobblecock

    June 13, 2008 at 5:54 am

Calm down Roy, you didn't have to post 4 times in a row. lol I'm just sayin this isn't the best card ever. You might think so, whatever. I'm gonna disagree with you on any of these fights matchin against the Liddell vs Silva. Icon vs Icon!

Fedor vs Sylvia is by far the most interesting fight on this card. Fedor might be considered an icon but we all know he has a padded record. Lets see him beat Sylvia and some other top ranked HW contenders before we really hold him up there and as for Sylvia, he's 1 of the most boring and hated fighters in the UFC. That's no secret, that's pretty much why he was released.

Also like I said before. Lets see Affliction continue to give top notch PPV’s after this one!

  33. Oswald Gobblecock

    June 13, 2008 at 5:56 am

I do agree that the UFC screws up with letting fighters go too soon after a bad streak of loses.

  34. roy

    June 13, 2008 at 6:30 am

nothing to calm down about oswald i posted 4 times cause i had alot to say and did not want a whole page in one comment. i said liddell vs silva alone might be better than any one match up but not the whole card that is filled with icons. you seem to forget about aa barnett linland all top fighter along with others. i will be happy and wait to see what happens after there first card because they have even better match ups that i want to see and they are signing every free agent out there and cross promote so it endless the amount of ppv's they could put on if things work out.

  35. Nichole Lesniak

    June 13, 2008 at 7:03 am

A lot can happen in 2 years. Fight and lose six times in 2 years and see what people think of you.

  36. roy

    June 13, 2008 at 7:51 am

yeah your right alot can happen in 2 yrs but it was the end of 06 he did not fight in 07 and has 2 wins in 08 so it's realy about 1 yr of no fighting(maybe he needed a break) and is still fairly young.

  37. kom34

    June 13, 2008 at 1:13 pm

i'm in business school and i have to read a lot of case studies. a lot of times a company will dominate and get huge profits. then when competition comes up they get big headed and think people wont want anything but what they offer. then sooner or later that other rising company gets part or even majority of the market.

point is, the best thing for dana and the ufc to do is respect these emerging companies as a threat and work to get better. but right now i dont see the ufc getting better or making changes. they are doing business as usual with their shows and events. but we'll see what their big announcement is.

by the way affliciton is backed by a profitable clothing company and donald trump. so now they have some pretty big pockets to keep these big shows comming until they get a big fan base.

  38. Oswald Gobblecock

    June 13, 2008 at 3:57 pm

True, look at WWF when WCW came up. Turner had the money to compete and beat WWF there for a while.

  39. Kash

    June 13, 2008 at 7:05 pm

I hope the UFC stays alive and well because I like their shows. I don't know what they are going to announce but I hope its something good. I want other companies to have success but the UFC is my favorite production.

  40. Kash

    June 13, 2008 at 7:07 pm

Yeah Oswald. Reminds me a lot of WWF and WCW too. I wonder how this will play out.

  41. JT

    June 14, 2008 at 8:52 am

I agree with all points in this discussion. But lets face it…competition is good. Not only for the companies, but for the fighters and fans too. By branching out, MMA is reaching many more viewers and creating many more enthusiasts than ever thought possible.

With many companies paleing in comparison to the UFC, it makes us appreciate and respect the entire aura surrounding a UFC event whether it be Ultimate Fight Nite, UFC Unleashed, UFC All Access, or a main card event. The UFC has set the standard to which all organizations will be measured.

With that being said….I am in full support of another PROFESSIONAL fight organization entering the limelight (Not the crappy and WWF like show I saw EliteXC put on). Couture left the UFC not only because Dana could not secure a contract with Fedor, but because he was trying to increase fighters rights and salaries. As a result, he and his clothing brand (which is partnered with Affliction) were both banned for competing and cornering in the UFC and the WEC. Why would Dana be such a fool and why is he scared of a single man, his Extreme Couture Nation, and a clothing manufacturer?

What he (Dana) has done is pee in his own cheerios! He and Zuffa are trying not only to remain #1 in respected MMA, but monopolize whatever they can corral. Affliction has put together one of the best cards that I have ever seen (and I don't care that some are past their prime….they are legends, former champs, and just all out great fighters). And in addition, Affliction has uped the slaries and has a less than lethal contract that allows the fighters some freedom that they were seeking to compete in other venues. Barnett stated that he would never fight in the UFC, Fedor would not sign with the UFC, Silvia, Lawler, and Arlovski left the UFC…doesn't this make it seems as an alternative PROFESSIONAL MMA LEAGUE is needed?

    My only concerns are these….

    1. Can Affliction follow up such a great 1st show?

Will they sign the Diaz boys and possibly Jeff

    Monson? Only time will tell

    2. Why is Dana finally make some kind of historic statement regarding fighters under contract in the UFC?

Is Zuffa feeling the heat from a company that

is willing to TAKE CARE of their fighters?

Can't wait to see where all of this goes for ALL of MMA's fans!

  42. Scooby Doo

    June 14, 2008 at 7:34 pm

I found it kinda odd that I would SEE the spider silva there. That suprised me???????? Is he scouting his next oppt or looking to get into another org.??????or just checking it out?????

  43. Nichole Lesniak

    June 14, 2008 at 8:41 pm

Scooby, if I had to guess, they were just checking it out. When I went to the primetime event, there were quite a few UFC guys there – including the likes of Dante Rivera. I think a lot of fighters are just fans too.

  44. kom34

    June 14, 2008 at 9:28 pm

i agree that the primetime show wasnt that good. i think affliction will get fighters by big paydays and nonexclusive contracts. they will partner with other organizations. you have donald trump involved now and that guy is pretty savy in business.

i know not many people watched the shoelite tonight but i really liked all of the fights. ninja and kj noons looked better than ever. diaz stirred up some tension like always and almost got in a fight when the show was wrapping.

  45. Scooby Doo

    June 15, 2008 at 11:40 pm

NL the reason i ques. that is u have the pres. of another org. saying that these other org. ain't worth crap there weak they won't last. And yet u have his fighters and champs in the audience. I understand that they r fans NL . It's just Cool that the other fighters support coming out and checking out the fights. I just would love to see if they could just go to other orgs. and fight other fighters.
