Wednesday night was a grim night for Walel “The Gazelle” Watson as he was released by UFC. Watson was first reported to have been released on the Facebook page of the British MMA Opinion last Tuesday.
“The Gazelle” recently finished a four fight stint with UFC and was successful in the Octagon a year ago. He was able to defeat huge names like Joseph Sandoval at the UFC Live 6 in October 2011 and Ismael Leon at the UWCM 10 in June 2011. After winning last year over Sandoval, he suffered a loss against Yves Jabouin at the UFC 140, against T.J. Dillashaw on UFC on Fuel TV and just recently Mitch Gagnon at UFC 152 headlining Jones vs. Belfort. He was on his knees in just a minute and 9 seconds of round one.
Currently “The Gazelle” has 9 wins and 5 losses in his career. Before his career at the UFC, he had an 8 wins and 2 losses record. He has won seven straight wins before he was defeated via a technical knockout by Cody Gibson at the Tachi Palace Fights 9 in 2011.
