WEC 48 Headed To PPV With Aldo vs Faber, Henderson vs Cerrone and Brown vs Gamburyan

The UFC sister company World Extreme Cagefighting today announced the first ever Pay-Per-View card set for April 24 from ARCO Arena in Sacramento, CA. Headlining the historic card will be a featherweight title bout between Jose Aldo and Urijah Faber, co-headlined by a lightweight title fight between Ben Henderson and Donald Cerrone.

Also on the card former featherweight champion Mike Brown will continue his journey back to the title, taking on former UFC fighter Manny Gamburyan.

The $44.99 PPV will be a test to see if the WEC can transition to a paid model.

I laugh in the face of Zuffa. If they think I'm going to PAY

to watch fights that (in my opinion) aren't that exciting, they're delusional.

Do you have any idea who Jose Aldo is? Have you seen Urijah Faber fight? These guys are amazing. Not to mention Mike Brown on the card against a decent opponent. Ben Henderson and Donald Cerrone had a great 1st fight and are both coming off impressive submission wins against there last opponents.

I live in England so i dont have the access to Versus or PPV, If i did i would gladly pay to watch those fights on a real TV screen, rather than staying awake til 6am to watch some small screen in poor quality.

I've seen all of the fights you mentioned Luke.

I even bought WEC's Best of 2008 on DVD hoping seeing only good fights would get me in to it. No dice.

    Very boring to me.

I've seen just about every career fight of faber, and hes exciting enough but a lot of the guys on the roster make me yawn, Literally.

I even found the second Faber vs Brown fight boring.

Maybe its because they're small guys, I don't know.

I actually enjoy WEC better than UFC, but screw paying two PPVs per month!!!!!!!!

I dont think they will do 1 a month, not for a long time anyway. And if they do, just buy WEC if thats what you prefer.

Miko – Dont hate on the small guys, It's rather ignorant to dislike people because they are no man mountain like Brock Lesnar.

Look at Pro Boxing, the best guy in the world fights at 140 – 150 lbs (Manny Paquiaou) and fought at about 115 a few years ago.

Im sure you had no intention to offend but, as a 135er myself, and training with a lot of Flyweights, fellow Bantamweights, and quite a few Featherweights, we take a lot of shit, and are deemed 'too small' for MMA, the popularity of the WEC proves we are not.

this is too soon. wec doesnt have big enough names to pull this off. ya faber vs aldo might sell but what after that?

the reason people like wec is because its badass fights for free on tv

    February 3, 2010 at 2:04 pm

yup badass fights for free … now its like they are putting lipstick on a whore…dam it jim

I think the names are about as big as it's going to get for them. this is a market test that's going to fail. not that this isn't going to be as good or maybe better than the average ufc but there's nothing like seeing the heavier guys swinging for the fences.

i agree with luke that they will probably put one of these supercards on 3 or 4 times a year and charge it. i think its worth it but it's going to be hard to shell out money for what was free.

This is a great card,Im going 2 pay 2 see it. I might call up my boys 2 chip in and get some wings. Jose Aldo is p4p i have him ranked 3rd behind Silva and Machida. I would love 2 see him move up 2 155 and fight BJ Penn in the UFC. Aldo is a beast he is wiping out the 145 division and BJ's cleaning out the 155 it would be a great fight pay me Dana if u use my idea lol!

This is as strong of a fight card as WEC can put together. Very solid card. Aldo Faber Cerrone Henderson, and Brown all exciting fighters not forking out the $45 to watch but I will put up the $10 to watch it at the sports bar…

You know what I hate? People telling me what I should like. As if I'm somehow inferior to them or a certain group if I dont.

Like joe rogan always nuthugging BJJ and tenth planet, always shitting on fighters that dont use enough BJJ.

OR when people tell me I'm ignornant because Its not for me. Wtf man.

Luke: don't be a dick and call me ignorant and a hater.

Did I say something inflammatory like WEC sucks, or WEC is for F@gs?

Explaining why something is not for me isn't hating.

I said MAYBE its because they're small…. MAYBE.

    I was very clear that I didn't really know why I didn't

    like it.

AND if it was because they're small, that's personal choice. NOT ignorance.

People like what they like and they aren't going to

change what they like because you disagree with them.

how the fuck can you say WEC fights are not exciting ? most of the fights are good on every card so it makes sense that theyre doing this with their top guys. dont order it just go to a resturant like bdubs and eat food relax and enjoy the amazing fights.

  15. Ken

    February 4, 2010 at 2:04 am

Josh has got the idea, I'll be at Bdubs watching this card. Sooner or later WEC was going to make the move to PPV and this is as strong of a card as they can could put together

Zuffa thinks were all made of money or something…i kinda liked the pay for the UFC and get the WEC for free deal. Im not buying WEC nor do i think i ver will, i think this will bomb as they wont get many buys.

    February 4, 2010 at 7:34 am

I just find it ignorant that you dis-credit someones skills based on their weight, Like i said you probably didn't mean to offend, and neither did i.

I would buy this if it was on UK PPV without a doubt, you probably wouldn't. I dont mind and i can bet Zuffa wont either because there is hundreds of thousands of hardcore WEC fans now thanks to these exciting lighter weight fighters, I believe Zuffa and Reed Harris are far from delusional.
